Cross Posted from Windows Mobile proffesional Devices forum, since it works with both:

Hey Everyone!

Been a while sine I posted here. But I am working on a new script and wanted to get feedback.

YouTube Pocket:

Just point your Windows Mobile enabled PPC or Smartphone to:
http://ytpocket.ath.cx
and follow the 'Getting Started' instructions and you will be ready to watch any YouTube video, right on your phone!

I have only tested this on a handfull of devices so i am really looking for some feedback. Please leave any comments, suggestions, or complaints here so i can try to address them.

Also, make sure to visit the Buffering / Syncing page on there with some tips.

If you like the site please help me out and digg it:

I just installed on my blackjack and it works fine. Thx!

Posted by: nc3g

Thanks for the feedback! Glad to see it's working on every phone it's been tested on so far!

Posted by: jdec141

Got it to work on my Blackjack as well. I'm still on Windows Mobile 5.0. Had to install the tcpmp and the flash to my phone itself. It would not work on the simcard. After using the TCPMP my homescreen has an extra line in it at the top but that is a small price to pay to have this work. Thanks for the site and the instructions.

cheers

Posted by: nc3g

Great to hear it's working for you. SOrry to hear about that weird line. If I find anything out about it from any TCPMP forums I will post it here for you!

p.s. Don't forget to digg it to help spread the word!

Posted by: im704

I will try it tomorrow on my Blackjack, and then I'll get my CEO to try it on his Iphone.
Will let you know tomorrow.

Posted by: nc3g

hey im704!

Unfortunatally it wont work with the iPhone (atleast not to my knowledge) because I coded it to use the mms standard, and I do not believe the iPhone uses that, and if it does, I would assume it wouldn't open the YouTube application. It should work perfect on your Blackjack once installed. If the site itself works on the iphone deff let me know, but I don't think it will unfortunatally.

Posted by: im704

Doesn't work... keeps stating page cannot be displayed because the connection was lost.
any sugestions?

Posted by: nc3g

No idea there, it is loading on 2 diff comps (one here and one in NJ) and 3 phones for me no prob.

Posted by: im704

I think it may be my connection. i will try again in the morning when I'm outside and getting a 3 g connection.
Do I have to have anything particular installed?

Thank you for the quick responses

Um i went to the site via my pc and read the instructions.... haha
I have to download a few things...

WOW!! It works! Thank you... I'm going to look around for videos!!

Thanks for sharing

Posted by: nc3g

No proble, glad to hear it works for you and you like it!

Posted by: Nextel_Man183

Doesn't work with the Dash, It loads up but you can't move or type anything, Does anyone else have this problem with the Dash?

Posted by: nc3g

Nextel Man183: What can't you move or type anything in, Pocket YouTube? I have 3 friends with Dashs all running it great. Are you using PIE?

Posted by: skatrboi452

doesnt work on my q gives errror message saying blah blah blah unknown file format any suggestions?

Posted by: nc3g

skatrboi452: did you follow all the instructions under getting started on the front page? And if so is everything opening in TCPMP. Because this has been tested on the Q aswell.

Posted by: ryanmetz

Works like a charm on my Treo 700wx for Alltel.
I have been looking for a good way to do this for a while.
THANKS!!

Posted by: im704

Typed too soon! I can browse the site and see all the thumbnails.
But when I attempt to view a video I get and error showing me the path and video name but will not play. Any ideas?

Thank you again.

Do you TCPMP and the plugin installed? And have you set 'MMS Protocol' in the settings?

i had to multiple install this on a blackjack before i figured it out. did you install the tcpmp and the flash to the phone? ( it won't work on the sim card) Did you go into the buffer area and change to all those settings that were listed on the site? mine didn't work until I made all the suggested changes. it took me a while to figure out under settings how to check the mms and the video was already checked when i installed it.

hope this helps.

Posted by: sokelut

Hi,

im using dash wm6 I've downloaded the 2 files from your link on "getting started"
but the TCPMP FLV Plugin seems to have a problem because when I open TCPMP it says that "FLV Plugin in out of date please update..."
but I ignored it and make those MMS setting changes and it won't play the video.

can you please check on that FLV Plugin file thanks.

Posted by: nc3g

hey sokelut, a few people have reported this error. I have reverted back to my old flash plugin, go back to the site, refresh, and try that one
just make sure to follow all the intructions!

can you have the tcpmp player for this version installed at the same time as the one for pocket you tube and have them both work?

Posted by: nc3g

You don't need to install anything seperate for this one. Just usde the search and click the links.

the reason I asked the question is that I did try the link and the search and it wouldn't play anything. It went to TCPMP like before . I then went back to your other link and it played fine.?????

Posted by: nc3g

Hmmm... thats strange, I'll have to look into that.

its working now. just tried it again.

Posted by: nc3g

It was an issue in how the code was executed. I had to add a segway page to make it work 100%. Sorry about that inconvenience :-( If I end up buying a server for this, I might be able to undo that, but do to my house server's speed my old method threw a few exceptions out.

it was a little choppy compared to the youtube but it did work. Seems like the buffer settings might need to be a little different. thanks again for getting all this to work.

Posted by: nc3g

No problem! Yeah, the buffering for Veoh is a little weird, I'm gonna play around with it, and if I can find a setting that works well with both I will post it.

Posted by: sokelut

ok so I reinstalled the FLV plugin and did all the setup recommended but when i click on the youtube video link the TCPMP kicks in and wait for a while
and display " MMS not configured " ... or something like that I forgot the exact word.

maybe I'll try reinstall all of them again

Posted by: skatrboi452

ok im glad someone else is having the prob that im having cause sokelut thats what mine is saying. also does anyone have prob with the sound volume? is it the version of the player thats the prob? b/c my old version i could play music/movies from my mem card and hear awsome sound quality now if i try that or try the youtube video i have to strain to hear anything like literally put the back of the phone where the speakers are up to my ear (which kinda sucks b/c the video is on the other side) ..........anything?

Posted by: nc3g

sokelut: A few users have reported that issue, have you tried a soft reset?

skatrboi: The volume issue is due to YouTube. YouTube compresses the files losing audio quality and volume.

its workin fine now the first time i went to the site i couldn't move around the page like it froze, but its all good now...thx

Posted by: skatrboi452

ok i can understand that, but why when i try and play songs from my card or watch movies from my card it plays at the same volume even in windows media player?

Posted by: dabone2k

Works on my Q. Great work!

Posted by: ayoraider07

"MMs protocol not supported" also can't find flash support in tcpmp. I have wm6 t-mobile dash..

Posted by: sokelut

yep did soft-reset and still showing MMS protocol not supported

Posted by: ayoraider07

okay, did soft reset, flash option in file associations is checked, still gettting "MMs protocol not supported". However, if I connect my dash to the internet using wifi, youtube videos stream with no problem....

Posted by: hoopsbwc34

Installed, Soft Reset, set "MMS Protocol" in File Associations... but I get a "MMS Protocol Not Supported" error message when I click on a video.

Posted by: nc3g

Alright, I think I have figured out the MMS Protocol Not SUpported thing, It seems TCPMP throws that error out when you internet is too slow to handle the file. For the people getting that, try chaning your buffering Kbps to 800, or even lower if needed, keep your percent at 5 and keep audio at 64Kbps

Posted by: petman435

went to the site on Q worked phine! Thanks.

Posted by: orangeagent

works perfect on my q!!! THANKS A TON!

Posted by: homers54321

hi, i have a t-mobile dash running wm6. i followed the getting started instructions, changed the buffering settings you recommended and even checked off GDI, but the videos are still very laggy (every couple of seconds, it lags) any other recommendations u can give? thanks

Posted by: clash

hi everyone, i can watch on videos on youtube pocket website with no problems.. but i cannot stream from the main youtube website since i hard reset my samsung i600 yesterday.. tried all sorts of installation methods.. still cant get it to work.. really regretted resetting my phone.. any pointers..? =(

Posted by: ayoraider07

No luck on the dash, it WILL work if I connect with wi-fi, but if I use EDGE it will freeze the phone up for a minute while trying to load video in tcpmp, and then it displays "mms protocol not supported"

works on motorola q9m. thanks

Same here. My Dash is sharing internet off my PC from ActiveSync, but even on Wi-Fi it's still choppy and stops every 4 or 5 seconds.

Posted by: ResidentEvil

OK I got it to work after 3 hours on my WING...YIPPIE..my problem was.... I didnt fully understand the instructions about downloading the file to my storage card. So "I created a new file on my storage card 'TCPMP" and placed my download there...then the second file...flash player or what ever it was ..I downloaded to the SAME folder and opened it up (inside) TCPMP..then I followed the rest of the settings on getting started and BAM !!!!! worked like a charm...thank you guys Im new to all this stuff but willing to learn now my wing soars

I agree – it’s fairly difficult and painful to watch YouTube/Google videos on windows mobile phones. I’m one of the developers who have been working on Avot mV – which can look up any video by searching videos from all web based video sites and play them.

You can provide use this application and provide your feedback to improve the product. This will help us liberate windows mobile users to watch what they want.

You can download the application by pointing the mobile browser to http://avotmv.com

Posted by: Enrico Ng

I tried the AvotMV program. it somewhat works on my Blackjack.
Here are a few problems I had:
1. The aspect ratio messed up, the software should maintain the aspect ration and perhaps offer a full screen option.
2. I am on Edge and not 3G. The stream that is sent to me should be tailored based on my current speed, or at least have one setting for Edge and one for 3G. I realize this happens on the server side so it depends how it is setup.

Posted by: Nick_in_SLC

"An unknown error OX0004005 has occurred" The install went okay, but the phone warned me about using software written for a previous OS. I'm using WM6.0 on a Moto Q9M.

Posted by: cmc0

Works great on my TyTn, only suggesions I have is that you should make it an option if I want to stream at WiFi/3G speeds or If I want to stream at EDGE/GPRS speeds since I can tell the video is only meant for WiFi/3G connections. Also when I play the video, it's not scaled properly with a 4:3 resolution so a portion of the video gets cut off . Anything about this?

Other than that keep up the good work and I like it alot since it allows me to access all the Youtube videos that aren't on the mobile youtube site

I just got a new phone so I'm new to this. Are there any other ways to play the videos that you know of that work just as well?

Yeah, the reboot was one of my first efforts at making it work. It plays videos from just about any other source, but not YouTube. YouTube videos always open in Media Player and I get the error code. I've gone into associations and set all file types except the ones I know to be pictures, and still, youtube videos open in Media Player.

It's not even that I care that much to watch YouTube on my phone, at this point it's just a matter of pride, and my unwillingness to be outsmarted by a damned phone.

doesnt work on my Mpx220 =[

Posted by: world13

Ok, I have installed both the mobile YouTube and this other program to watch streaming video on my blackjack. On the mobile YouTube one, no matter how many adjustments I have done to the buffering it still plays for about 4-6 seconds then stops ( the little 4 colored round thing is on the screen) then it starts again. What can I do to get a freeze free video?

I have tried the buffer settings even down to the 300 mark it does the same thing vid for 4-6 sec then freeze.

I installed them to my memery card and not the phone itself. I see under the phone settings that it is in the remove programs option. So is it on my phone or the mem card.

Also what does the microdrive setting do?

Anyone out there that can help answer these questions?

Posted by: luv2hum

ok i try loading this on my 8525 i get the sound to play, but all i see in every video is just a green screen.....please help!!
thankss

this is driving me nuts. i keep getting a cant find URL error. anybody else?

Posted by: JPinNM

working pretty well on my cdma q/ vzn
wish i had seen this thread last night, because i was bored, and had just discovered that youtube limits the videos you could watch on mobile

Posted by: ahearst

Why aren't you guys vTapping?

http://www.vtap.com.

vTap plays You Tube videos on any WM5 or WM6 smartphone instantly. I installed the software on my Samsung Blackjack Monday and haven't looked back. In fact, vTap has encouraged me to not trade in my Blackjack for a while. vTap is free and you'll no longer need TCPMP, Blueapple or some other workaround.

Posted by: JPinNM

you know, its kinda rude to bogart someone elses thread to try and push your own competing product or service.

Posted by: ahearst

JPinNM I'm not trying to spam you or hijack your thread. The thread is about folks having problems playing You Tube videos on their phones, isn't it? All I did was offer a suggestion. All I did was mention I found software that worked for me. I have no interest in vTap, nor do I work for them. I found their software while surfing Smartphone and Pocket PC magazines webpage on Monday. I tried it; it works. It solved the problem of my being unable to view You Tube videos on my Blackjack without using TCPMP or some other workaround. I'm just trying to help, that's all. I apologize for violating your code of ethics.

Posted by: JPinNM

its not my thread.
its a thread started by the person whos doing youtube pocket,

the problems people are having are with that specific service.

if you know of a similar service, by all means, tell us about it.
but you should have started your own thread.

and i meant to try the one you posted out, but earlier when i was going to, i found my Q dead in the holster...

So i'll try it out tomorrow.

Posted by: nick80gomez

I got a dash too, it works fine. Had to put the buffering size down to 800kb to stop the drag but all is well.

Posted by: trfytoy

What buffer settings are you guys with the Q9M using? Mine stills pauses and buffers quite a bit. Probably cuz I'm not in EVDO....

Posted by: JPinNM

in an evdo area, on a standard q, i'm using 800k and its working fine.

There are 2 ways to fix this.

Way 1 (Easy Way): 'Options -> Video -> GDI'

Way 2 (Harder Way): There is a thing out there called 'ATI Hotfix' for the 8525. I found it on xda-developers for a friend, that should fix everything.

p.s. To the person who suggested vTap, it's a great idea, but still has a long way to go. I have installed it on a few of my devices, but it locks them all up when trying to view videos, I am not sure why it is doing that. Hopefully they will fix that in a new release.

I get the same message and no video. Solutions?

The solution is to use Zbop's plugin. THis thread is for YTPocket. If you Follow the directions in the thread you can stream videos from ytpocket.com, which ia ll of youtubes videos.

I guess it would help if I went to the right website. I was at www.youtube.com and not ytpocket.com. Thanks.

EDIT: Now I've got the MMS protocol not supported error.

Posted by: nc3g

Soccerjohn, did you follow all of the getting started settings?

Posted by: soccerjohn

yes, even changed the buffering to 800.

Posted by: nc3g

does your phone have wifi? If so try it on that and see if the issue fixes. If so that means your internet isn't fast enough.

Posted by: soccerjohn

yes it works over wifi.

If you're doing this using EDGE on T-Mobile, you must have the Total Internet plan.

When you say Total Internet Plan is that the $29.99 plan? If so I am paying for that =/ But for some reason my DASH is not running on EDGE right now it's showing the big G instead. Would that be causing the problem? Thanks for the fast responses

Not having EDGE might be one problem. Well you'd have problems viewing (constant buffering) anyways if it did work.

$29.99?!?! You're paying too much! Its only $19.99 now (yes with hotspots). You can switch it online.

What APN for data are you using? I know that supposedly wap and internet2 are the same, but I'd try changing changing it to internet2 anyways. Maybe its my imagination, but it seems a little bit faster for me. Plus I know RTSP connections work, in my area at least.

I'm sorry but what does APN stand for? And where do I go to check what my setting is currently on? I'm a noob at this sorry....

I am at home now and am connecting using wi-fi, but am still receiving the same error maybe I have something set up wrong in my settings somewhere?

Posted by: nc3g

'RTSP protocol not supported' means you didn't follow ANY of the getting started instructions on the site and didn't install ANY of the required software. :-p

Posted by: hakujin

I followed instructions and it works great for me. Just curious though.. in PIE, are there supposed to be thumbnail images of the video or is it supposed to be a placeholder. I see the latter.

Thanks

sorry for the ultra NEWB question, but I have installed everything, what i believe is properly, and reset my Dash but whenever I bring up any video file from youtube.com it just shows the message "Hello, you either have Javascript turned off or an old version of Macromedia's Flash Player." I am using PIE to bring up youtube.com. What am I doing wrong?

Instead of using youtube.com, watch the videos from http://ytpocket.ath.cx

LOL.

I followed the exact instructions and it works perfectly on my Wing. Thank you.

Posted by: bipinsen

Ehhh... It's not working. I followed the instructions, and when I click on a video, it opens the HTC Streaming Media Player. This after a soft-reset also. I have a SDA running WM6. But more importantly, I'm not sure this is going to work anyway since I'm accessing the internet through the T-Mobile proxy. So this won't work for me anyway.... Still, I can't even get TCPMP to open up in the first place on a link click.

This is easily one of the best programs (if not the best) I've ever come across. I left a digg feedback.

Damn it, another person hogging the thread to promote his product.

it's not my product, just a solution to watch YouTube, Google, MSN, CNN, Reuters, Fox Sports videos and more over T-mobile with t-zones

Posted by: ostriches

The website and the program work great on my USCC MOTO Q.
The only issue I have is the buffering... I can't seem to get it just right to where it doesn't need to pause. It seems every combination I try, it has to buffer every 5-15 seconds.

I love the program because you can use it for any streaming audio or video... not just youtube pocket.

Tried it with a blackjack on Edge and it was very choppy. the video stopped ever few seconds to buffer.

Posted by: jaekidd1012

I tried it and kept getting an error message saying that the connection was lost. A minor setback for now because I'll just walk around tomorrow and find a wi-fi connection and try again(Gota love Wi-Fi). By the way, I'm trying this on the T-Mobile Wing.

I got the dash, when i go to youtube.com it says RTSP not supported, ytpocket.ath.cx website is down or something. and when I tried the vtap program when i try to play a video, it says your player does not support MPEG4, i got TCPMP and the flash bundle installed. Anybody got any of these to work with dash??

Anybody got any of these to work with dash??

Go to the non mobile version of youtube. Also, check out the other thread regarding the newest flash bundle. It's a lot better.

Has anyone been able to get this to work on their Treo 750? I was able to dl everything fine but when I try to view a video on youtube noting happens, other than the page loads again but doesn't play any video.

When I tried going to youtubepocket I get an error and still no videos playing.

I just got done upgrading from WM5 to WM6 and one of the first things I thought to do was to test out m.youtube.com again to see if it works now. I didn't download anything else at this point yet and sure enough it worked! The video played but was very slow and choppy. So all I needed was WM6?

Also, what settings should I put my player on to view streaming video? It works, just not good enough where you can tell anything is playing other than weird noise and it it's sooo slow it's not even worth it...BUT IT DOES WORK!!!

its it m.youtube.com or actually Youtube.com?

Yes, it's m.youtube.com - but this wasn't even working before when I had WM5 and I tried to dl everything in the 1st post of this thread. It works now that I dl'ed WM6.

When I tried youtube.com using Opera Mini 4, I got the error that my javascript is turned off or I need to dl the newest flashplayer.
