wing Backlight Won't Turn Off (Standby Mode)

To conserve battery life, obviously I keep my Wing on standby. I carry the Wing around in a plastic holster that I purchased. The problem is that when a call is placed (ie. with a BT headset) or received, the phone comes out of standby mode and the backlight turns on. Once the call has ended, the Wing does not go back into standby mode; this is because one (or more) of the buttons are being pushed against the plastic holster. If you try pressing one of the front buttons while pushing the power button to enter standby, you will see that the screen basically flickers - it goes into standby for less than a second and comes back out of it because it senses the button push. What can be done to fix this problem (software or otherwise)? My battery ends up getting wasted after a few hours because the backlight was on the entire time...
