One word. Curve

You will not be disappointed.

I would ask why. This question now coming from a person that has a Treo and is wanting a Curve.

I am a long time Palm user, and went from the Treo 650 to the Blackberry Curve. I never really cared for Blackberrys before receiving one from work, and must say that I am very impressed.

I think of the Treo as a Palm device with a phone (great third party application support for games/applications). The Blackberry is more like an internet connectivity device with a phone. Messaging/internet with the BB is a breeze compared to the Treo, even when using Chatter. Blazer (the Palm browser) is quite possibly the slowest and featureless browser available. Syncing my BB with Outlook is superb, and conflicts are handling appropriately.

The biggest thing I miss is Datebook by Pimlico. I think the Blackberrys Calendar is pretty weak (but still probably better than Palm's native calendar application).

So essentially it comes down to what you want to use your device for: communications (Blackberry) or entertainment (Treo).

thanks all....pretty consistent advice. I think I'm heading to BB.

The Curve will definitely do all that and it will be much more reliable than the Treo (based on my experiences anyway). However, if you're expecting a desktop internet browsing experience on a mobile device then prepare to be disappointed no matter what you choose. There's just no way you can do so on a QVGA screen. Try setting your desktop to 640x480 (which is 4x the resolution of QVGA) and you'll be disappointed even with that resolution.

I went from Blackberries back in the day of the 7230 and 7730 to Treos. I wanted the storage afforded by an SD Card plus I liked the idea of a camera. Treos had all the features I wanted but one: Stability! They crash, reset, freeze, and just plain misbehave, and usually at the worst possible time, like during an incoming call. Now that the Pearl and Curve have cameras and external storage I'm back, baby! Blackberries do it all, and they just plain work. And now the Curve is about 1/2 the size of a Treo.

treo's aren't badly featured but fall over a lot. Wouldn't reccomend, just on that basis. It's possible to get lucky with one that was built properly, and if that's the case then you have to decide what's best, the PDA-ness of the treo or the email, interface and general blackberriness of the blackberry.

they're not the only fruit though, HTC and Nokia make some stuff you may care to look at.

and apple.
only joking.

I had a Treo 750, returned it and went to the Curve. Much happier with the Curve. My primary use is email. While the browsing on the Treo is faster, the 3G burns the battery. Curve I get at least two days even when using as a phone as well, Treo I was getting 12 hours - totally unacceptable for any real-world use.

Lack of 3G doesn't bother me - web browsing is a little slower, but for what you're likely to do on that screen (read the news, check weather, flight schedules) it's fine.

Although I really, really liked my Treo 680...I really, really liked the Curve better.

In fact...I might be making a Crackberry Comeback.

Curve.

I'm using both right now. I like the Curve for it's email capability and small size. However, I prefer the IE browser and logmein.com features of my 700wx. My Treo has not had any serious problems and does not require resets all the time, as others have mentioned. Previously, I've used a 7280, 7780, and a 7520 BB, as well as a WM5 6700 (Which I traded for the 700wx, due to lockups and poor battery life.) I'm not a stranger to either OS.

It all comes down to what you value most and what compromise you can live with in a PDA/Phone. No device is great at everything. I'm thinking about trying a 6800 Mogul, to check out WM6. On the other hand, I like the built-in GPS of the 8830 on Sprint. If they'd only release the 8310 in the U.S......

Go with the Curve. I just switched to one and love it. Just keep in mind that you have to pay extra for a Blackberry plan. Of course you have to realize that you are posting in the RIM forum. Everyone (just about) here will be biased.

I actually switched from BlackBerry to the iPhone, so I'm not biased at all. And...like I said earlier, I was really into my Treo 680 for a while...and had none of the problems with flakiness and instability that many reported on the Palm OS forum and other web forums. My Treo performed flawlessly almost 100% of the time.

I switched to the "dark side" from BlackBerry mostly because I wanted to try something new and totally different...and also because I reassessed my priorities. I am not a corporate user, a power user...or someone that needs "push" email. Although the BlackBerry Curve is definately the most consumer-friendly (read: media-ready) BlackBerry ever...it is still an email processor with a camera and web browser tacked on as an afterthought. Not that it's a bad thing...just reality. I personally wanted a more media-targeted device that had a killer UI and displayed HTML email better and more clearly...and the iPhone does that for me.

The BlackBerry Curve wins over the Treo in many ways though. It is smaller, and fits more comfortably in the average hand. The BlackBerry OS is a "closed platform" that will only accept software applications designed specifically for the BlackBerry...hence it's inherant stability and reliable-as-a-sledgehammer reputation. It works, and works well, without any major hiccups. The Treo has an open platform, so many 3rd party apps that have been modified to "fit" the Palm OS can be used on the device. That gives great flexibility...but also opens the door for apps that do not "play nice" with each other, and that can make the Treo act weird and be flaky from time to time.

Fact is...it's your choice. I personally believe that for the majority of smartphone users...the BlackBerry Curve has more going for it than the Treo.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it...
