I thought I understood that you could backup your Ringtones From the Phone to your PC using BitPim. I have an LG VX 8100 and when I select the ringtones folder to download; the green progress bar at the bottom shows activity until it is done but then there is no ringtone files from the phone in that folder. Where do they go to? Until I find where they went the only work around to save the ringtones that came on the phone that I want to keep, is I bought a cheap mic from RS and place it next to the speaker on the phone, played the ringtones and processed them in Audacity and save it as an MP3 file into a folder on my hard drive and also made a copy of that folder on a flash drive. Can any body help with where these ringtones go to?

im not too sure, but i dont think it can retrieve the ringers that came with the phone...
if it cant and you only have the default ringtones that came with the phone, that'll give you your answer on your missing ringtone issue.

I put a couple of ringtones on the VX8100 in MP3 format using Audocity and BitPim. Works fine going that way. When I tried to bring them from the Cell to BitPim into the Ringtone folder all I got was the name of the Ringtones and 0.0 kb Tried bringing them into the Sound Folder and wouldn't do that either.

....so bitpim converts your mp3's fine, uploads fine, and it plays fine on you phone? but when its dl back to bitpim, it'll show the ringtone name, but with 0kb....what version of bitpim do you have? i believe it should be 1.01. if you dont have the current version, then i would get the updates to get you current. otherwise, i have not experienced this problem, so i wouldnt know how to really troubleshoot it.
does your phones have memory slots? you can get a TF memory card and a SD reader....another way to backup w/o usin bitpim. memory link here (just click memory cards)
and you will see a SandiskŪ MobileMate SD+ Reader on the same page, just a bit down more. if you decide to get these, all you need to do is format the card (from phone), move the ringtones to the card (but cannot move default ringtones.) take memory out of phone and place in SD reader. computer will recognize SD reader as a removable drive. copy folder(s) to your hard drive, and you have your backup

The Version of BitPim I have is 1.0.0. I just downloaded it Sat 08/29/07. I will check again to see if there is a later version. As Far as the Memory Card & Reader I have both. I have a Sandisk Mini SD for the Phone & a Sandisk ImageMate 12 n 1 Reader. I thought (not completely reading phone manual) that the Mem Card was to save pictures on. I will have to do the sounds and/or ringtones. Do you have to create a directory for both on the card and if you do, do you have to do it on the PC first or can the dir's be done thru the phone?
Thanks for the responses that you have been doing.

if you have formatted the card thru the phone, the directories will be automatically created for you. just save the sound to the card.
once you click on the drive (from computer), you should see:
"my pics", "my music", "my flix", "my sounds" as well as a couple of other folders (i think). you should be able to see it in the "my music" or "my sounds" folder.

I downloaded the latest version and when I did and retrieved the Ringtones, Wallpaper, sounds everything came into the program except the stock ringtones. Even the Ringtones I downloaded from Verizon

....yea, like i mentioned before....i dont think you can backup the stock ringtones. if you can find it somewhere in the filesystem...then maybe. but i have no clue to where to find them. as for the ringtones that you purchased from verizon...i have no clue either. have you tried unlocking them or movin to the phone? i dont recall purchasing any ringtones from verizon, so i wouldnt know. best bet is to upload your own ringtones. at least that way you can edit your own mp3's with the part of the music that you want...and its free, so you cant beat that
