SE44 analog problem and... more! ughh!

I got an SE44 "unlocked" for U.S. Cellular (fleabay) and it was successfully activated; however, it is only on analog and there is a digital tower(s) in this area for sure (strong signal). It's simply not picking them up in the last couple of days (since i got it hooked in). On the other hand, it will not update, or do whatever it is supposed to do when you dial *228 most likely due to the analog signal. There is no place I can simply travel to in order to find a digital signal (300 miles of nothing in every direction).

Is this updatable via data cable? If so, where do i find one? The major problem is that the battery doesn't last long at all on analog. Perhaps it is a defective battery because i'm not so sure it will even make it through a single day with a full charge. I'll find out today.

Any hints, clues, etc? The local U.S. cellular shops will not support this phone.
