I was downloading a song from a site using internet explorer on my phone and then all the sudden my phone shuts off. I had to remove and replace the battery for my phone to turn on. I tried to download the song again and my phone shut off again during the download. I tried several different songs and it shuts off only during the download. When I restart the phone, the song is only partial downloaded. Any suggestions? I tried IE, Opera, Mini Opera and it still happens. Is it a phone problem?

Probably not a phone problem maybe the site? Is it a regular web site designed for computers or phones? If its for phones maybe its malicious code in the dl and once the phone reads it it thinks it needs to turn off? Or if its a regular website maybe its trying to do what it does on a normal computer and the phone cant handle it and then it just shuts off.

I would suspect that your just running out of memory. When you download those songs it downloads them into the phone's memory. So you have the internet cache, but also the final file.

If you install all your programs on the phone's memory, plus have a full contact list, lots of messages and emails, internet cache (from both browsers), etc, then what your prolly experiences is memory failure.

Your prolly running out of memory and critical processes then can't run, so it resets. I would pick a browser and kill the other (at least clean the cache). Clear out junk programs and maximize your free memory as much as possible. Deleted all your read emails and SMS from ALL of the folders (sent, inbox, outbox, drafts, deleted).

Then try downloading 1 song at a time. Download it, save it, move it to storage, repeat.

Another thing that you may try is combining your My Documents folder with your Storage Card. I put the hack in the Samsung forums and its awesome. Basically it makes your "My Documents" folder the memory card, and it deletes the "Storage Card" folder. When you install programs your new options will be "Device" or "My Documents".

The good thing about that is that every thing wants to save the files in My Documents. Bluetooth file transfers and downloads that automatically save to my documents are actually on the SD card.

This also benefits ringtones, because Custom ringtones have to be saved to My documents which can now be the microSD card.

I've been running like this for a while now and I will never go back to having 2 separate storage folders. The old "My Documents" on the device sucked because I always had to physically move files to the "Storage Card", but now the microSD card IS My Documents.

Player911,

Thanks for the advice. Could you send me the link for the My Documents hack you have?

Thanks,

Steve
