i850 ring tones

im new to this so please bear with me . i have an i850 with nextl i would like to install a ring tone i used to have it called "blah blah blah " i bought the transfer cable with a ringtone and driver cd(usless) .now my question is what software do i need and where can i get it , what type is it (wave ,mp3 ,midi so on)( if im in the wrong fourm please move)
p.s. ive been reading but cant locate any thing for the i850
