Thinking about AT&T and the 8525 ... HELP?!?!

Greetings,
I am a loooooooooong time customer of Verizon (since before it was Airtouch) here in Los Angeles and am now at the point where I have grown tired of their crippled phones (they advise, by the way, that its their contract with all the cell phone providers that they will block any attempt to load anything onto their phones which they themselves do not provide ... convenient, huh).
This is causing me to have to make 2 radical decisions ... to leave Verizon and to leave Motorola.
I am thinking about the AT&T 8525 Smartphone, which would necessitate a change to AT&T.
I am wondering if anyone out there has any words of wisdom on these two changes. I really want a phone I can load some java games onto, and the 8525 seems to fit that bill.
Any help on the 8525 choice, or the verizon->AT&T in southern california choice, is GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks!

Naturally on AT&T you'll enjoy more freedom, I don't blame you for hanging on to your e815 as it was the last phone with a manufactuer UI.
From all accounts, the 8525 seems to be a marvelous phone with all sorts of goodies under the hood. At any rate it would definitely be an upgrade for you.

I am so looking forward to the 8525 (if I go that route) ... the number of games freely available for it is very tempting compared to my locked down e815 (which I did seem hack per this wonderful site, but that only gets you so far).
What is my big concern is leaving Verizon (where I have never really had a lick of trouble from a connectivity standpoint in Southern California) for AT&T.
I wish I knew how AT&T was in So. Cal. Any forum posting on the this direct topic is back in 2005, which is, of course, irrelevant in 2007.
If anyone out there can comment on Verizon vs. AT&T in So Cal (and the Las Vegas corridor) I would love to hear about it.

I'll tell you now that the general consensus among those in SoCal is that AT&T has plenty of coverage but that the call quality is what is in question.
Mostly they say it is because of the AMR-HR codec AT&T uses to fit more calls in crowded, densely populated areas.
Do a search and you'll find more CURRENT info than you're ready for!

Dude wait few weeks the 8925/ Tilt is comming its going to blow your mind its twice as better as the 8525 and 8525 is already great

Also with the 6800 comming to VZW you`ll be able to load apps pretty much the same as 8525 but 8925 is the king of PDAs !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
