Sanyo 5150 Multimedia XP Compatibility?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I cannot believe it, but I went to my Sprint store today and they had a 5150 Data connection kit (SPY5DK001)!!! Anyway, went straight home to install the software. I installed the Multimedia Master software (Version 1.0 for SCP-5150) and tried to connect to my phone (everything was set up as the software indicated). Phone was set to PC Sync and I was using Com Port 1. Well the progress bar modal appeard, but it never displayed a blue progress bar. After a few seconds, this error modal appeared and said:

EInvalidOperation??Downloader.exe?000410AC???Canva s??

When you click OK and the application shuts down? Anyway, I decided to decided to install the SprintPCS Dialer program. I installed it and it set up on Com 1. I decided to try to connect and it did. Within very little time at all, it had my 5150 dialed up and on the internet?

So, this shows me Com 1 is good! It also shows me the Serial Cable is good! So, the only thing left out of this picture is either the PC sync on the phone is bad or the Multimedia Software is not compatible with MS Windows XP! P.S. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled it twice?

DOES ANY ONE KNOW IF IT IS COMPATIBLE WITH XP?

Try using XP's backwards compatibility option. Although it's not perfect, it works. Allows your program to run in past Windows OSes modes so it can run. For example, if you have a program that only runs in Windows 98, select windows 98 mode and it will run like your computer is in Windows 98.

I have got to plead stupid, how do you set that up in XP for this particular issue?

Right click on either the shortcut or program itself. Then you should get something that looks like this.

By the way, where do you live? You're the first person I heard of actually seeing the 5150 kit.

I live in Omaha, Nebraska. I could not believe it either. I called my SprintPCS store yesterday and asked if they had a Sanyo 5000 or 6000 kit. He asked why, so I told him I had the 5150 software but just need the cable.. He laughed and said he would check. He came back to the phone and said, "You won't believe this but I actually have a Sanyo SCP-5150 kit in stock!". I told him to hold it and ran down there as fast as I could. Sure enough, it was a SCP-5150 Kit!

My SprintPCS store is f***ked. Their number rings but nobody picks up, EVER. Off and on for a whole month, I call to check to see if they had the 5150 in stock. I think they have the ringer on their phone line permanently off. So I have to drive up there if I want to check if they have something. I finally gave up and bought the damn phone online. Now I call to see if they have the stupid data cable kit and still, nobody picks up. It's been like this for several months now and I KNOW someone is there.

I have been usin the software for the 5000, 6000, and the 5150 with XP and have not had any problems or error messages. You might have tried this already but perhaps you shoul reinstall it.
Good luck.

Well, I took it to work today and installed it on my work machine that has Windows 2000 on it. And what do you know, it works on the Windows 2000 at work. So, I took your advice and went home, reinstalled it again (3rd time). Changed the compatability mode to 2000 and got the same D!@# thing and message. Tried the Windows 98/Me compatability and it wouldnt even run, got "unidentified error"? I have sent Sanyo an email, lets see what they say!

I think the problem lies within your current system configuration. Any advanced windows user will tell you that it happens. There is one thing that will fix it 100% albeit I dont' think that's what you would want to do if you're not comfortable doing it. Reinstall Windows by either doing an "install over" on your current setup (but this doesn't always work). The 2nd solution, is a clean install.

I assume that by your description that you are relatively computer adept (modal) ... programmer maybe?

Anyways, I have no problems using it on XP Pro.

My local Sprint Store had them in stock.

Well I have XP Home addition and it still does not work, same symptoms as I stated above! It works at WORK on Windows 2000, but not on my Home XP addition! Do you have all the latest updates to XP on your machine? I know one of my latest updates indicated it fixed some of the compatibility modes which may be why mine does not work?

I have all the updates installed. My version of XP is not an upgrade, I did a clean install. Did you upgrade from a previous version of windows and if so did you fdisk, format, install and then upgrade? Like someone else stated sometimes the only thing you can do if you run out of ideas is reinstall the OS to go back to default configuration before changes were made and programs added.

Good Luck!

I got a new Dell computer for Xmas along with my new 5150. Of course I didn't try to download anything because the cables were not available. Needless to say, there were several XP Window updates before the cables became available so those were put on my computer first. Once the cables came in, I tried downloading pictures when the problem arose. Again, it is strange, the dial up software works, just not the multimedia software on XP? They both work on my work computer with Windows 2000?
