A840 Gone Swimming...PLEASE HELP!

Well, first of all let me tell you I seem to be cursed by the Cell Phones Gods cause I've been through 4 cell phones, 3 of which in the last 2 years. My latest catastrophe.... I'm going to France for several months in September, so decided to get a global phone. Now, Telus is one of the few providers that actually give decent service where I live, so I thought I'd go with tehm. (mistake #1) Telus only has one cell that's global, the Motorola A840. An expensive POSm considering you can't download anything, no ringtones, no images... nothing, AND the camera is a piece of junk as well. So, not only did I pay a ridiculous price, but I was completely dissatisfied, got stuck on a 3 year plan AND got a 3 year warranty. (mistake #2) So I got this phone May 31, 2007. Well, here's the kicker. Our work cell got lost, so since I had a local # we started using it as the work phone, cuz our boss was taking forever to order a new one. WELL, out doing lake samples on AUgust 7, 2007 and PLOOF. My A840 decided to go for a swim, in a blue-green algae infested lake.
So I waited about 10 days, before finally deciding that it constantly resetting itself when I opened it just did me no good, and went to get a new one. A friend of mine told me I was better off just getting the phone I really wanted and just getting a cheap one in France. So I went out and got the new razr. At least I can download ringtones and I've heard I can connect it to my ipod, but we'll see. I was choked cuz first of all, my three year warranty not only did it not cover water damage, but it didn't transfer over to my new phone.. even though I didn't even ahve it for 3 months. AND as a second blow, I had to buy the entire phone as you can't transfer contracts to lower the intial payment.
ANYWAY, my questions to anyone who'll take the time to read this are:
1. Is there ANY way that I can rig my phone to go to France OR can I put it on pause for 7 months? The global SIM card from my A840 is still intact.
2. Anyone know of any cheap pay as you go phones in France?
3. How do I get mp3 songs to work on my new razr?

Post in the marketplace to request an unlock for your RAZR. That should make it work in France.

Too bad about your story. You might want to see if you can terminate your contract in case anything happens again. Sometimes, the early termination fee is worth it.
