DIY Switchback Data Cable?

Hey guys, I am a n00b and new so don't get mad at me if I offend one of you or something like that.

OK I write a LOT. So if you want to read war and peace, please proceed, but if you want to read the www.sparknotes.com version of war and peace proceed down to the bottom of the post where it says SUMMARY. Thanks

OK I have Virgin Mobile. A crappy Oystr. It is really horrible and I don't like it. Well it isn't that bad, but it isn't that great. A great phone for the price I guess but it is crappy. You know?

I am thinking about getting a Switch Back for the keyboard. I like to text and it looks cool. Otherwise I would get a Slider Sonic.

I am interested in phone hacking. I saw a website on the Razr hacking a while ago and I was like holy n00b this is sweet. I was wondering first off if hacking on the Switch Back is possible? Basically like loading pics songs wallpapers and such not from my computer to the phone otherwise impossible. I know the phone doesn't have bluetooth, the strobe does, and I don't have a USB Bluetooth Dongle so that wouldn't help me.

So I am thinking USB Data Cable

OK, the software is like 6 bucks, so that isn't bad. But the cable is 30. Um...what the heck? I can buy my own USB cable, like a mini USB cable or a USB extension cable or something on those lines, and just cut off the end and solder on a what looks like an audio connector. Now I know how to solder, kinda, although I suck at it and I am sloppy. I know a little about electronics. Once I made a USB Charger for my mp3 player. Using a 9 volt battery, a LM7805, the internet's instructions, and a female usb port I was able to make a charger.

So I am thinking I know how to make a DIY Data Cable. Although the thing is is that I don't know what type of connector is used to connect to the phone, and I don't know what the pinout/connection/w/e is. Like I know that there are 4 wires in a USB cable. 5v Ground Data+ and Data-

So I can handle the soldering and such not, but does anyone know like what the connections are inside of the cable? On normal audio connectors there are usually 3 little metal rings. Ground and right and left audio. I am thinking then that there are 3 wires in an audio cable. Easy enough I guess. But where do I solder those to? I am thinking like audio left and right one of the two goes to data + and the other goes to data - But I don't know where the 5v goes or the ground.

Like this may sounds stupid or weird or confusing to some. But to others out there that could help me or give me instructions or w/e That would be greatly appreciated. Because 30 bucks is too much.

SUMMARY

I want to build a DIY USB Data Cable for a Switchback that I might get in the future for Virgin Mobile. I have an Oystr, am gonna get rid of it, and getting a Switchback. I don't want to spend 30 bucks on the USB Cable, and would like to make my own. If you can help me with pinouts, instructions on where to solder, that sort or thing. Wow, I kinda can't put into words what I want help on...but I want to make one, (USB Cable) Don't know how, know how to solder sloppily and I know a little about electronics, I can find a crappy USB cable around the house, and probably attain the connector that would go to the phone, but I don't have the knowledge on how to make one! Please Help!

I have a feeling, that the connector that connects to the phone is RS-232, whatever that is.

OK, So I was looking here at this cheap cable, http://cgi.ebay.com/USB-Data-Cable-...yphotohos ting

And it says on the bottom compatible with and then it gives a crap load of phone models from kyocera. Ok so I went to www.pinouts.ru and looked up Kyocera Data Cable pinout and got this.

http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-A-...de_pinout.shtml

And that pinout works with at least one of the phones the cable works with so that must be it. right?

So I have found a pinout to the Kyocera Data Cable. Just 3 things too, Rx, Tx, and Ground. I found on wikipedia I typed in Rx I think and it said something I forget, and after 30 seconds of following links and stuff, I found myself on the wikipedia RS-232 page. And there were kinda a lot of commands for RS-232, but I found 2 of them to be Tx and Rx.

OK so...then I typed in RS-232 and came up with this.

http://pinouts.ru/CellularPhonesCab...le_pinout.shtml

O crap. Although that looks like kinda what I need. There are two problems, I need a USB connection not a serial connection...right? And I can't solder up something like that. The parts would cost more than the no name brand usb cable.

And also I don't think I have a Audio connector like that, with all of those little metal tabs, So probably I am just gonna buy the USB Cable off of Ebay...

So I guess this thread can be closed...
