How to tap into Stock Amp

I have a 1998 Lincoln Navigator with the premium sound. I dont want to replace my stock HU yet. I have not done all my research on any of the navs yet. I had a D3 But wont fit in my car.

I currently have 2 x JL Audio W3v2-D2 Wired into 2Ohm. Since my car has a stock amp, i need to tap into it to get the lows. I use to have a Ford Explorer and used the PAC SNI-15 to solve this. But My explorer did not have a stock amp.

When i open up the panel to look at the sub. There are only 2 wires going to the sub.

Any ideas or help would be great.

sounds like you can only do a speaker level input into your stock amp.

you might want to try the forums on carstereo.com to get a better answer or even a walkthrough on how to tap into that amp. I think there are speaker level to rca adapters, but I could be wrong. I remember reading something about that on the carstereo.com forums

You are right about that. There are only 2 wires. Meaning i can only do one channel. There has to be a way to do both.

your best bet would be to use a plug in PAC interface.

pac audio add an amp

They have models for the stock head units for most ford/Lincoln vehicles with premium sound.

What we did in one of the Navigators we had here is we used the stock system and a Pac piece to give us RCA outputs. Then used a 5 channel amp that had a mono sub channel to run the sub. We replaced the Factory Amp all together replacing all the door speakers with component seperates and adding a subs in the rear.

Regardless of how many subs you have you will only have a pos and neg connection to the subs. Even if you have two subs you would not run them as a left sub signal or a right sub signal both subs would be using teh same signal which would be mono not stereo.

A sub works in Mono not stereo so you wouldnt have a left and a right channel on a sub you would need a mono signal which would incorporate the left and the right channel together. If you have an amp that has a sub output or filter it will convert the stereo signal input to mono and you should be able to select a low freqency for the sub to run at.
