Up till now, I couldn't make a single phone call or receive one in my house. It always showed "No Service" on the iPhone.

However, tonight I placed the iPhone on the table and waited for 2 bars to show.

Then I placed a call and the iPhone held on to the call for 30min. (It also worked for received too.)

I was able to talk w/my iPhone inside my house!.

It doesn't make sense, but it worked.

Touching the metal case degrades the signal in fringe conditions.

You can also put it in the dock.

Maybe Apple shouldn't have made it metal then.

What metal? Isn't it all plastic?

DMA, no most of the case (housing) is metal. The only obvious plastic part is the battery/Antennae cover, the front is all glass but I am sure under it there is some plastic.

This phone is the best built phone I have ever had, for as small and thin as it is, it is extremely solid. I have had many phones -- Treo 600, 650, 700w, 700wx, 750, BlackJack, 8525, BB Pearl, BB Curve, BB 88xx, several older BB, and many non pda phones. I tried going back to my 8525 after getting the iPhone, but was back after only 2 days. The only one that makes me miss it is the 700wx, with the added memory it rocked.

I even tried upgrading the 8525 to WM6 thinking it would be better, and email was nice in HTML, but at the end of the day it just couldn't match the iPhone except for Exchange Push. Those who bad mouth the iPhone while boasting about their pda's make me laugh as I have had almost all that's offered on AT&T and VZW and the iPhone is my fav.

I think plastic would be tougher than that soft aluminum.
