i still have not seen the 3g on my phone.

Last I heard Oct is still the timeframe. I wish they would hurry up and finish the software update though. Cell service is HORRIBLE right now (at least in parts of Edmond). My understanding is they are having to take towers offline in order to update the software. Tired of looking down at my phone and seeing "emergency calls only".

Middle to end of October is still the date as far as I've been able to tell.

It's been getting to be the same in parts of Norman. I've gone to emergency only on my prepaid Nokia and my postpaid Blackjack for nearly a half-hour at times (and I'll lose data connectivity at times beyond that). It's only started recently, within the last month or so (more frequently in the last two weeks).

AT&T's just changing/introducing a bunch of stuff in the metro lately, maybe with a side effect of stretching their crews thin...

But I'll be glad when they do get UTMS running in OKC. It should have been here first, not Tulsa.

Posted by: t3h_wookiee

Tulsa was quicker at filing the papers then we were. Which sucks for us! This next month and a half is going to go by slowly.

Posted by: pen25

actually the difference being tulsa had a brand new building built and was putting it all in where as okc office was crammed full of crap. tulsa had thier stuff installed 6 months early and while tulsa was completely done we was adding bays in okc to expand thier transport gear.

Either that or att was waiting on the transfer of spectrum from Edge Wireless to begin the upgrades. Hard to deploy wcdma without any spectrum, ya?

my friend has 3g on her blackjack in luther.

Still nothing on the south end of the metro.

Isn't Edmond a test area for the deployment? If so, I could see why people around that area, including Arcadia Lake and Luther, would be getting some of that 3G coverage.

I haven't seen any 3g on my BlackJack anywhere in Edmond yet. Haven't been out near Arcadia in the last couple of weeks though.

I'm in Moore. I've been having horrible reception problems and no service. I called and complained and they said they were having to take towers offline. I asked why and he said it was because they were finalizing the upgrade to 3G. I was told the tower by me should switch on on Oct 17th.....

We'll see.......

man, i hope so. it seams like ive waiting since forever.

Nice. Ive been google searching like crazy and couldnt find ANY info about 3G for OKC.

My Razr is getting old in the tooth and Im starting to keep my eye open for something that does 3G, GPS decent camera for snaps and video. I think the N95 fits the bill, but I would like the price to come down some.

Yeah, I went in to look at a Tilt today and was told to expect 3G near the end of the month not the 15th. Then again this same rep told me the Tilt did not have GPS

this time i hope your wrong.

Posted by: ImmerStark

I'd like to be wrong. It's hard to get excited about a launch that has been delayed dozens of times. It's also hard to get good info, my att rep is a blithering idiot. Something he did clarify for me is that when he told me spring time he was talking about the upgrade to hspda meaning what we get now may just be rel 99. Although given his lack of understanding of the network tech he could just as easily be meaning hsupa. It's not very encouraging that he doesn't even know what hsdpa is an acronym for.

On another note I have been playing around with all of the 3g phones and I have noticed that the 3g only, automatic, or 2g only menu has been removed from the phones. I have a feeling that this might cause some problems.

i hear yah. this waiting gets old after awhile.

Posted by: walkguru

well here it is 1135am on the 17 th and no 3g.

Posted by: ipugh

I stopped by the Penn Square Mall AT&T location at lunch and was told by one of their reps that the 3G service will not be rolled out until the end of November.

He sounded unsure, or was unwilling to tell me, so take that with a grain of salt.

Posted by: MrBigglesworth

Why cant we get hard information from AT&T?

Posted by: ZacHolley

i work for an agent here in OKC and my rep told me that it would launch on 10/15/07 but has been delayed until 11/1/07 with a big launch party with alot of advertising on 11/15/07 ish.

take it with agrain of salt but he is the rep for quite a few stores!

and my laptop card in dallas did a speed test from 1500-1800kbps damn i sure hope its that fast here!!!!

I think I have figured it out. Peter Rysavy has convinced the execs at att that egprs is all they will ever need and want, so there is no need to deploy wcdma.

one thing for sure we will be waiting a long long time.

Posted by: MrBigglesworth

But we have already waited a long time. Tulsa has 3G, why cant we?

Posted by: walkguru

well hopefully we will get it sooner, rather than later.

Posted by: ImmerStark

In our market they were a victim of their own success, had they not already held a very large share of the market here they would have been allowed to keep the old attws assets. Most important of those would be the spectrum needed to deploy wcdma.

tulsa had just built a brand new switch center and was built to grow the 3g. were as the okc switch center was already packed full of equipment not allowing as smooth of a growth of the internal equipment to support it. there was talk about building a new site like they did here in tulsa. dont know if they ever did but trust me the okc site was a rats nest

Posted by: walkguru

the fcc mandated att to sell of all the old att towers, stores, and the 1900 freq. there for we could not go with 3g in oct of last year as planed.

so tulsa went with it, and now they have it. and we dont.

Of course, now I have the regular old E and not G. I am sure that I had the G earlier. I got an email as I was talking on the phone. I am pretty sure that with 3G you can access data (email) while on a voice call.

Not where I am in Tulsa area either. But it's interesting what a Wilson Electronics amplifier, an antenna outside on a pole and a TopGlobalUSA MB6000 will do for you. Oh yea, don't forget that SierraWireless Watcher software with a lock on 3g before you pull it out and put it in the MB6000.

But it is close -- within 5 miles.

sounds like usage is heavy downtown, and too little capacity to support it.
You'd think they'd have a decent backbone hooked up to a tower that serves downtown, but this IS AT&T we're talking about. It's probably a single T1 serving the tower.
