Any word on the Connecticut rollout?

We've kinda got the CT horseshoe going on, nothing in the Danbury area right near the NY border. I could prob be in range for 3G if they filled in I-84.

Yeah, 84 along with the rest of 95 and 395 would be nice... *sigh* Looks at watch...

This release gives me some hope...

http://digital50.com/news/items/PR/...llion-this.html

Excerpted:
"AT&T's current 3G footprint in the state covers I-95 and the Merritt Parkway between the New York border and New Haven, as well as along Route 91 from New Haven to just north of Hartford. Access to 3G is also available at Bradley International Airport, the UConn-Storrs Campus, downtown New London, Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos and the area surrounding ESPN headquarters in Bristol.

Later this year, AT&T plans to roll out expanded 3G wireless network coverage in New London, providing customers with continuous 3G coverage from the New York border to the Rhode Island border."

Any updates on this? I live in Danbury and am really anxious for 3G. Might even entertain dumping my iPhone for a 3G phone!

I work in hartford and live in manchester, and its frustrating to see the 3.5g logo drop off my phone right at the 84-384 merge. Has there been any word on expanding CT coverage?

As for existing coverage i have to say its a tad spotty. I work right in the center of downtown hartford and have full bars yet my phone keeps switching between E and 3.5g on me. it can be a bit annoying especially if i am trying to stream something on my lunch break or something.

(I know this is the Western CT thread, but CT is fairly small and i didnt want to crowd the forum with another CT thread)

Agreed, I'm changing the title.

So I've got some good news. The tower down the street from my office in Madison is being worked on as I type. I called in to CS and they told me that it is being upgraded to UMTS. As well she confirmed that the rest of the gap on 95 from Madison to New London is being upgraded!

Not sure about the rest of the state, but I remember a while back that someone posted the minutes from a Connecticut Siting Counsil meeting: http://www.ct.gov/csc/cwp/view.asp?a=956&Q=248150. Looks like some of the AT&T upgrades proposed in July are finally making their way towards reality. W00T!

I'm surprised a CS person knows this information. Or do you know a different number to call that has better info?

They can see antenna site status for every site they have via a mapping tool. I had her check the site down the street from my office, as well as the ones which cover the "3G gap" on the rest of I95.

I've got some not-so-good news. I talked to a rep in the danbury mall store. She just got back from a data class and they told her danbury wouldnt have 3G until march! this is the 3rd or 4th time it's been pushed back, it was supposed to be out last year!

Verizon is looking more and more tempting, even minus the iPhone. AT+T really needs to stop dragging its feet...

If you have the iPhone, 3G won't give you any benefits, as its GSM/EDGE.

I understand that, but I've been waiting for the iPhone 3G or a phone that will have 3G and tear me away from the iPhone. Alas, ATT is being way too slow with their deployment and VZW is coming out with some no-too-shabby devices

I am anxiously waiting seeing that i have the n95 and i figured since i live just outside of hartford i would have 3g, but nope, you loose 3g coverage about the second you leave hartford. But it is nice to use it when i am at work at least.

Looks like 3G deployment in state has gone to a standstill. Nothing has changed much since it deployment earlier this year.

In the coverage map thread I mentioned that the coverage map had been updated to include all of I95. It isn't turned on for customers yet though. Still seems to be barred. They also updated the map to include 3g all the way up to and including Springfield. I'm not familiar enough with the other areas of 3g coverage in the state to notice any other coverage increases. Check out the coverage map, type in CT for state and then turn on 3g. The new cells might not be accessible yet, but they are obviously on the way.

I went through Springfield, Mass today... The city finally has 3G up and running.

They JUST and I do mean JUST turned on 3G in Madison CT. Will report about the rest of interstate 95 after my ride home. I can only assume that the whole stretch just went live.

All of 95 is now 3G in Connecticut. Coverage also goes up 395 to just before Montville.

Now if they will just work on i-84 i will be happy

I'm surprised there's no 3G on I91 from the Mass border to Windsor, CT. It's a small stretch from Enfield to Hartford.

Posted by: Loki008

i dont know if this is new or not, but i was in newington on the berlin tpke the other day, and they are all 3G. but still no manchester *shakes fist*

I was a bit disappointed with 3G on my ride from NY to Boston this Christmas. Of course I took the 95 corridor all the way through CT hoping to get 3G all the way. However, my data card kept on falling back to EDGE for some reason through the eastern CT region and so audio streaming kept on cutting off. It looks like even though 3G is there, is just not strong enough (1900Mhz) and the card falls back to EDGE (850Mhz), but gosh I was in a car, not indoors

And even through the city of Providence my card would not detect 3G at all, even though it's supposed to be all covered.

Yeah, i am not pleased so far with the 3G rollout in hartford either. I am constantly switching between 3G and EDGE all day on my n95 which can cause a bit of havoc when i am trying to leave an IM app logged in durring the day.

As for the I-95 streach in eastern CT, i go down to Waterford / New London area quite frequently and have noticed the same thing

That is pretty odd, I travel from New Haven to New London every day and never drop 3G, and I'm streaming radio and Google maps all the while. I have spoken to a technician in Rockville CT and he told me that the new deployments along I95 in CT are all 850. I've spoken to my fair share of reps and technicians and this guy DID actually seem to know what he was talking about. Where in eastern CT were you dropping the connection Bobo? I wouldn't have posted this had I not been extensively testing the I95 connection since it went live. I personally have been quite pleased. I do admit that in Hartford I have noticed the same thing as you guys.

Posted by: DRC72

I always get a solid 3G signal in Hartford. I'm surprised you guys are falling back to GSM in the city, because my N75 consistently stays on 3G inside Hartford.
