So is it true the n95 that was approved for the US with AT&T band 3G, is going to use UMTS vs. HSPDA?

If so, this is a major blow in my eyes!

Posted by: cjmedina

i thought feature pack 1 supports hsdpa? why would they only do utms? they also gave it a bigger battery, is there any hard info that its utms only

Posted by: Wide_opeN

This is exactly what I want to know my friend! If it's UMTS only, that will have KILLED any buzz I had of this US release.

I'd still take the phone in a heart beat!

I completely agree.

Hell, the N95 with just EDGE is amazing, so this can only be better.

Seems to me like those who like Nokia, are soooo forgiving when it comes to the shortcomings of Nokia.

It is HSDPA. Whether it makes its way to at&t is another story altogether. But things point to an unlocked/unbranded release from Nokia. Check Rcadden's Symbian Guru site for info.

Posted by: dday64

If anyone is interested I actually saw this phone for sale at the Best Buy at Inner Harbor in Baltimore. I didn't look at the specs, though

Posted by: slim724

I'll stick with my unlocked unbranded version

Best Buy? The stores around here don't sell and unlocked/unbranded phones. Just the stuff that the carriers will let them sell.

Posted by: xj911

Does anyone think that at&t will actually pick this up? (and not cripple the shizzle out of it?)

Posted by: mush10

Is there any confirmation anywhere that Nokia has any intentions of letting at&t even get their hands on it?

I don't think that Nokia is or should release this phone to AT&T! Then again if they don't they're missing out on a HUGE sales channel.

Its not a shortcoming for me, I live in a non 3g area.

It is pretty expensive though. It probably wouldn't bring a financial windfall to at&t.

Posted by: thadoggfather

I hope N95 drops on AT&T so I can get it for a subsidized price. and who cares if they cripple it, people will figure out a way to unbrand them. I say, let it happen!

Those who use the (non-US) version of the N95, I have a question:
Many modern phones turn off their color display lighting to save battery power. While this is obviously necessary, some just turn off the backlight, allowing the display to still be seen in bright enough light. Others use flashing LEDs to indicate that the phone is on. Still others blank the display completely, giving no indication that the phone is on until/unless you push a button (examples: LG CU500, Apple iPhone). This drives me nuts because you can have the phone sitting on your desk and if it runs out of battery power, you wouldn't know it from just glancing at it.

What is the situation with the N95? Can you still see the display when the backlight turns off? Is there at least an LED?

i'm having a hard time sending text messages when my unlocked n95. i can recieve but not send. can anyone please help

Posted by: Wide_opeN

Have you verified your settings against those at the AT&T site?

You can have a screensaver that will show date, time, profile, msgs, missed calls, etc.. at idle screen, in newer firmwares a blinking side button is enabled

can you post up a link on the att site because i can't find it.

Go to nokia europe, and have the settings sent to you in a msg, you shouldn't have to though, mine took the settings straight from my sim and I didn't have to do anything

True. We (Best Buy Mobile locations) do carry/will carry this device unlocked. $749.99 i believe.

While the device is uber hot, that price is not worthwhile!

750 dollars for that damn phone, you've gotta be ******** me....only the most hardcore of the fanboys would pay that kind of money for that phone...it's a hot *** phone, but c'mon now....750 bux is a joke...especially for a phone with no qwerty and a somewhat delicate sliding mechanism...

Neat! How long are we looking at before the unbranded/unlocked US version release given that the FCC approval just happened recently? The N75 took ages. The iPhone took a few months.

Posted by: thadoggfather

$750 at best buy is a rip. get it at buy.com for $599 with free shipping

Posted by: mikekickz

is the nokia software updater suppost to take this long to "identify connected phone"?
i've been waiting for 30 minutes now

Posted by: mikekickz

damn this phone is pissing me off!

really how do i send text messages. when ever i attempt to send a message it goes straight to outbox and says "resend at a later time"!

We only carry the European unlocked model. Its a cool phone. My coworkers who are BBY mobile employees absolutely love it.

While this is a cool phone, I can't justify buying it without my FAN discount. Especially with the K850i coming out, which has most of the features I love in the N95, it's just too expensive.

First of all, don't pay $750 when you can get it elsewhere for $600. Duh. Second, here's why:

1. 5MP cam with autofocus and CZ lens. Show me another phone available that tops that.
2. Video recording at 30fps. Again, show me.
3. Stereo speakers. Show me.
4. WiFi

How much do the newest WinMo devices cost, or the all-mighty iPhone? Roughly the same, and their cameras BLOW. Specially with the US N95 having a bigger battery and ~80MB of RAM, it's totally worth it.

If that's true I hope it doesn't delay the release of the unbranded version like we saw with the N75.

that's hilarious. The e62, n75 and most of the "high end" nokia phones flop in stores. Usually only die-hard nokiaphiles picked em up. Most people either wanted something free, cheap, or a razr

What's so bad about that (competition)? AT&T is just a service provider, not a phone manufacturer (IMO they shouldn't be selling phones at all). Even if both flop, they still gain. It's not their job to be anticompetitive and choose which one gets all the sales.

N95 is coming for AT&T. I got this from an AT&T rep. I was asking him about the SE Z750 and K850. He said that AT&T will be getting these phones. Plus he told me about the N95 coming to AT&T.

I am an AT&T rep in a corp store and I am extremely close with someone who works for corporate in data literacy. They test phones, and play with phone before they come out, alot of the things we talk about is proprietary info and she tells me things she shouldnt even be telling me and she has not heard ANYTHING about the N95, she has read about in but NOT ONE THING OFFICIAL FROM ANYONE. She was 100% sure we were getting the Q9 and the Razr2 like 2 months ago, and was able tested a branded one like a month ago, BUT NOTHING ON THE N95. The rep u talked to is reading in forums and saying his opinion as fact. I mean i would think they would release it also. This is how i look at it, Nokia is going to redo this phone with 3g using the bands 850/1900, noone else in the world uses these bands for 3g except us (possibly a south american country maybe, i have no clue but if so correct me) so why would they make a phone with these bands if they were not trying to apeal to AT&T customers with 3g. It woul dbe like a foreign car making an car with the steering wheel on the left side and not even planning on selling it in the states or canada ( u know any country that uses that car). I mean it only seems sensible for Nokia to release it with AT&T but who knows. BUT AS OF NOW THERE IS NO PLANS THAT AT&T WILL CARRY IT. Like i said they may be discussing it or thinking about it but the statement IT IS COMING is a bold one with no weight.

*At the same time I am torn if I want AT&T to release it because I do want oen with US 3g, i have one with the 2100 band but want to use the 3g especially now that theres a slingbox player beta for symbian phones. So I am def getting one. This is why I am torn whether i want AT&T to get this phone (not like my opinion will make a difference just saying this is why im deciding whether it would be nice for them to release it or not) If they release it yes, the price may be cheaper and being a sales rep I get a discount on it, plus alot of the features that we would have to pay for i can use free if i use my COU line, like they may require u to use there GPS software with their subscription which is not a problem for me cause its free then, and data and all that, but with them taking over certain aspects of the phone it may slow it with AT&Ts rom, their programs, and their restrictions/alterations/personalization of software and features. The phone may not be as cool and not be as smooth. teh option to flash it is always there but oh well. Also if it is released then so many people who do not even know about it now will know about it and me having I will not be the only person with it. I still get people asking me a million questions about it cause they never seen it. If Nokia sells it it wont sell as well as if AT&T sells it cause only phone enthusiast will buy it rather then if it is in an AT&t store some guy who has a pocket full off money who never heard of it will get it.

Plus to AT&T getting it (for me)
-Price will be cheaper
-Anything they add on will be free to me with COU line, such as GPS
-Possibly will be able to insure it (n75 took a little while but can be insured now) and warranty issues will be easier to deal with through AT&T rather then going through Nokia, AT&T will not leave u without a phone too long

Cons to AT&T getting it
-It wont be as exclusive and unknown
-Cingulars roms and restrictions may mess the phone up*** This can really make the phone a entirely different phone.
-Probably wont come with any memory card so u have to buy one from AT&T liek the N75 and it would surprise me if they didnt include a data cable but had to buy one in the store. The N75 comes with one but it just wouldnt surprise me if the phone didnt come with one.
-phone would be locked so getting it unlocked would be a process, i live in philly so have lots a stores with boxes and ability to unlock but this may not be able to be unlocked right away, this n95 US version. AT&T may not provide the code right away. I actually dont need it unlocked because I will only use AT&T in the states and if I go abroad which I plan on this winter I have my N95 with the 2100 band so doesnt make a differnece but its the principle.

So ill have to wait and see what happens but whatever happens IM GETTING ONE, but like i said I dont think anyone else has anymore of a clue then me or u and if ATT is getting it other then Nokia heads and ATT heads but their data people and phone testers dont and either did mt stores Nokia rep

EXCUSE MY SPELLING AND GRAMMER ITS 2 IN THE MORNING AND NODDING OUT

Posted by: CyberMoto

The guy I talked with asked me if I had seen the N95. I told him I have seen it on the net. Since I did not talk too him about any Nokia;s, I asked him about the SE's for AT&T. I also said to him. Now that the FCC has given the go on HSUPA. He said that by years end. The cards should be out. I said phones should be coming some time next year.

Yes was a great shock,i had the original device which was awesome, but this now has the 3g bands and will release with a bigger battery, and has 82mb of ram free, can do anything with it and no out of memory issues, it just took the device to the next level, i mean there isnt another that has what this has, they come close, but the vga recording, gaming, and the tv out plus the 5mp camera puts it over the top.
