Has anyone had any sucess tethering the 8525 with Vista???

I've installed Communication Manager, and it gets to the point where I plug in the USB cable & PDA, but it just sits there... saying "Configuring".

stays like that for 20min.

Task manager shows the program as "running", so it's not frozen.

Is there a setting on the phone I have to do?

If anyone has the steps to set up a 8525, I'd be grateful. Tech support was of no help, because there was no error message so they can't diagnose.

I've worked in wireless for 8yrs.... NEVER had a problem until Vista...LOL.

i have upgraded to wm6 and has no problem using cable or bluetooth with windows vista. i love it with the 3g network. like u have dsl everywhere

Where did you get WM6 for the 8525? I can not find a download link to the WM6 just a bunch of posts with people saying that they have downloaded it.

Did you use Communication manager?

I'm wondering if it's just 5.0.... I just tried to do it with XP and can't seem to get it done either.

First of all, what rom do you have, If you are using the older rom make sure you have actived the wireless modem, and do not use the communication manager. It does not work. You need to set it up using the ATT support pages for XP.
Or, if you have the newest rom you no longer have the wireless modem. You have Internet Sharing. Just activate it for the usb connection, then plug in the phone. You should now be connected to the the internet.
No modem to install, no special software, nothing. Just plug and go.

go to programs and select internet sharing. select connection: usb and network con: media net. Im using it with vista as we speak. Does anyone know if this will trigger extra charges with Cingular/ATT. I have the unlimited data plan and I have heard that it will incur extra charges and i have heard that it wont????? Anyone know?

I got it working

As for the charges.... I don't know. I think that as long as you sue the Media net profile, that they won't know. But it's anyones guess. I'll be able to tell you for sure next month.

I used aout 4mb today on the 8525 with a media net plan.

I wasn't able to get vista to work with the older ROM. The wireless modem wouldn't connect, and vista wanted additional drivers loaded.

But the newer ROM with the internet sharing worked flawlessly.

Thanks for all your help (I'll use this trick on my 3125 too. Hopefully it'll work so I can tether with that as well)
