Need advice - 8525 now or wait for Kaiser?

i've been wanting an 8525 for awhile now and have finally decided to take the plunge. i'm buying it without a contract since i'm already with AT&T and still in the middle of my contract so it will run me about $400-$500. i've been reading on here about the Kaiser and was wondering how big the differences were between the two, and if it would be worth waiting and paying an additional $300 for it? i plan on using it for web surfing, emails, texting, taking my office docs on the road with me.

If that's all you are doing....save the money and get the 8525 now. It's more than enough for your requirements.

The Kaiser would be overkill....IMHO

From what I have read the biggest gains on the Kaiser is the tilt screen and the GPS. I don't know of any other big changes being made, check out the 8525, its a great device.

I would say the biggest gain for the Kaiser is the better build quality and spring-loaded sliding keyboard. The TyTN (and its derivatives - 8525) are notorious for the keyboard loosening over time and faulty stylus silo. If you can, I would try and demo a 8525 to see how well it performs under normal operating conditions.

The Kaiser has a faster processor and more memory as well...I wish I had waited..I love my 8525 and even more with WM6 but I should have waited....

the processor and memory are the exact same amount... the only thing that is different is the official wm6 upgrade, tilt screen, and gps tahts it

processor clock speed is nominally the same, but the qualcomm uses a multi core type processing system. it'll be alot faster. however, unless you're the type to want the latest and greatest, the 8525 is a great phone and should do you just fine

I have an 8125, and would like a newer WM6 enabled phone.

There has been paper that the 8925 should be here by Sept 12.
I don't know if thats a good date because it has changed so many times.
But
AT&T has pushed out the remaining 8100/8125 inventory.
They have been pushing out their 8525 refurbs (branded cingular).
The 8525 has been on discount (business account $175) for the past month.
Because of the inventory clearance I think the Sept dates are going to happen and I am counting the days.

You are wrong my friend! The processor in the Tilt is either 384Mhz or 400Mhz but it's a dual-core processor vs. 8525's 400Mhz single core. The memory in the Tilt is 256MB ROM/128MB RAM vs. 8525's 64MB ROM/64MB RAM. Plus, the Tilt has an official WM6 ROM, tilt screen, GPS, a 3MP camera, etc. etc. My two reason for upgrading are the memory and built-in GPS.

I cannot comment on the Tilt/8925, but as for the HTC Kaiser, if you really like these kinds of phones, then wait....

I used a pre-production Kaiser and I have also owned the 8125 and 8525. The Kaiser is a nicer phone then its predecessors and you will really enjoy it.

The only downside is that it costs more then most desktop PC's......

Thanks for that you got to him before I got back from offshore....my reasons are the memory and gps as well....and the faster processor won't hurt but the 8525 is pretty good...

How thick is the Kaiser/Tilt vs the 8525?

Posted by: bravo261

the size difference alone is pretty significant. in your pants pocket, every millimeter is felt somehow.

if i put the O2 Orbit~16.8mm in one pocket and the trinity/prophet ~18.2mm in the other, you definitely can tell the little difference exists. the sides of the orbit are slightly curved and that helps as well. those little details mean everything to me because the phones are always in my pants...no jackets here in SoCal.

but you can find used 8525 for $300 easily and new for clear under $400. the tilt is what, $500 or something? personally, size/gps/new factor is worth the extra money at this point

Let's see. Here's what makes the Kaiser better than the TyTn (8525):

Size and build quality
Faster CPU and double the RAM+ROM
GPS
TouchFLO
Camera w/ AF (AF is a must for every camera IMO)

I had a TyTn and quickly moved to a Herald. The Kaiser is based off the Herald in the respect of build quality. The slider is spring-assisted as well, which is awesome. The top piece is metallic, which adds to the feel and build of the unit. The only problem I see with the Kaiser is where the power button is located. It was on top of my Herald, which I much preferred over the TyTn's side location.

It will probably be more like $800. Maybe $400-$500 with contract.

I will most likely get the Kaiser version over the 8925. All providers like changing the firmware around and crippling certain features. I believe this will be the first GPS-equipped phone available through a US carrier. I hope to god AT&T doesn't screw with the GPS operation.

finding a used 8525 for $300 is not that easy. They are all selling for $400 on e-bay. If you know of a place, let me know. I also thought the Tilt was going to be $500 with a 2 year contract, so probably around $800 for the first few months.

I got my 8525 for $310 shipped and I wont be trading it in any time soon.
