is there software or a way in the phone to change those buttons contact and calender?
i have no use for the calendar and would rather have a program i use more

yes there is the best way is to use a program called sk tools....easily done

There are other ways too.
A. you can change the registry and edit the left softkey to whatever you want.
B.Download this.......from xda. It is the HTC softkey application tool. Once you install it on your phone, you can go into settings and there will be a softkey icon. Now you can change both softkeys to whatever you want.
