So i hear that there are 2 iPhone programs coming out for i think its Mac that will enable you to unlock it to use with any carrier, (its on Engadget)

i was wondering, i have a regular AT&T plan with no Iphone plan b/c i havent bought the phone yet, but was wondering if I unlock i should be able to use it, right..without adding the $20 a month.

That would be extremely stupid. You will not be able to access half the features of the iPhone. Youtube, Internet, Web Applications

The data plan for the iPhone is cheap compared to other providers.

I have Data on my plan, but im not able to shell out the $20 a month, ive been saving my money for the iPhone since I first heard about it in January.

so i could use those functions, just not unlimitedly.

im just wondering if itll work, thats all.

If you can afford a iPhone, you can afford the iPhone data plan.

If the guy had a Data (Medianet) plan on the line, he would have access to the internet just not YouTube (without an additional hack) and Visual Voicemail. Everything else works fine on it.

thanks sp, i was just seeing if it was worth it, since i am not the one incharge of my plan i cannot change it or i would.

so i figured this would be a good workaround.

You should probably let the person in charge of your plan (a parent?) know that the iPhone data plan costs the same as the unlimited MEdia net plan for cell phones ($20/month). And don't think for a second that you won't need unlimited data: the iPhone is notorious for accessing EDGE whenever it darn well pleases, and visual voicemail requires EDGE data access. I've noted that my iPhone accesses EDGE to check e-mail when locked, even if I have it connected to a WiFi network (it only uses WiFi when the phone is unlocked and in use). This is a non issue for me because I'm on the plan of course, but for someone trying to make this work with causl use data, you're asking for a high bill.

Besides, to activate an iPhone on AT&T, your account automatically switches to the iPhone plan when you activate it. This is all done through iTunes when you first plug it in. Doesn't matter if the phone is unlocked or not: if AT&T sees an iPhone IMEI on the account, it's going to get the iPhone data plan.

quick question..

i have cincinnati bell as my service provider...right now i have unlimited data and texting each month for only $15 extra (family plan). so technically, if i got my hands on an unlocked iPhone in the future, wouldnt i be good to go? cincy bell is GSM and uses Edge btw...

dont mean to hi-jack the thread, just a simple question though...

I kinda figured that right?

Anyways for these folks that get a iphone, they better get Data for it or be able to block it out, because as someone mentioned it can send you into a deep hole by racking up data on its own.

Will you just answer the question without being an ***.

In any case, it should. I'm using an iphone on wifi only (no sim in) and the only one that doesnt work is youtube

Just so you know, if you already have an AT&T line, and want to continue using that you can activate with a program called iASign and your iphone will work with that.

You do not need to wait for the full unlock! unlock for att sims has been out for ages...

You really need to look at your bill, though, and determine what exactly you are spending right now, and how much you would be spending if you use an iphone plan instead.

After all the hacking, the only difference between an iphone plan and a non-iphone plan is Visual Voicemail. But if in the end its going to cost the same, why not get it!?

Well one of the main features for the iphone is to be able to browse the web as much as you please to . So to spend $600 for the phone and not wanting to spend $20 for unlimited data is kinda stupid . Yoy might want to save your money and spend it on cheesebblurgers and ice cream everynight. Delicious.lol

hmm hail to useless posts...

With the iPhone, you really can't afford to skim on any features...enough said.
