When WM6 comes out officially for Blackjack...

there will be an official download for it, and it will be update-able, correct? I think my brother might like WM6, but I don't want him to try it until it's officially released, in case there are any problems with it (it's not like this is a backup phone or joy phone for him, it's his primary one).

Question may be novice, but I still need a FOR SURE answer!

Thanx!!!

no...you have to use a wm5 rom...

Ok, let me make sure I understand you. Firstly, you're saying no to the fact that I can't use a Sprite backup to go back to wm5 and my settings... right?

Secondly, let me ask this: if I upgrade or change over to wm6 and use the rom to go back to wm5 THEN can I use my sprite backup to get wm5 back to the way I previously had it before going to wm6?

Long story short, I want to satisfy my curiosity and try wm6 but have a safeguard in place I don't like wm6.

Thanx in advance!

I have no idea what you are talking about.

haha. wrong thread wide_open?

When it does come out, it will probably be a downloadable exe file. You have to flash the phone yourself, losing all data.

This is how the official ATT update has been released.

and then you just connect Blackjack to your computer and run the updater? When does WM6 get released officially for Blackjack?

There has been no official date announced for release of Mobile 6 for the Blackjack. Originally information suggested a late July availability but there was apparently word given by AT&T to their stores that it would be delayed one to two months beyond that which puts it at the end of August to late Sept. It has been reported that it will be out before the end of the 3rd Q which may mean September. Others report it is done and has been with ATT testers for over a week now, so soon. Another reported Samsung Techs said within a couple of weeks of 8/24. It appears they were delayed for several reasons including possibly distracted by iPhone release, but I heard they found lots of things that needed fixing, and they are adding applications such as Video Calling which needed a longer testing/tweaking period to get it working optimally, as well as time to get 3G up more quickly in many areas so the Video calling works. From all that the answer seems to be that Mobile 6 will be available for the Blackjack Officially any day now, to within about 3 weeks. I would say a good estimate is the week of Sept. 11 plus or minus one week.

Well i just talked to an AT&T rep the other day, i know i know, they don't know much. But he told me that they are concentrating on fixing the iphone issues, including getting ready to roll out the second iphone, which is going to release "next year". So the wm6 updates are all getting pushed back to around christmas time.

That's what I heard, don't take it seriously though.

The two have nothing to do with each other.

Read kevads post?

Hi,

I was mainly referring to temporary events in June when ATT put a lot of energy into launch of the iPhone and so I would agree with austinchuck's comment.

I was given bits and pieces of information indicating that the delay would have largely occurred anyways as there were more issues than expected found with the initial version that was leaked, so more involved with fixing and testing the fixes. There were also decisions to be made as to what should be addressed and what to include or not in the update at the same time, such as bug fixes, features, video processing, bluetooth issues, and new applications.

As we seem to know now, AT&T is adding in applications that took a bit longer to include and test, and I suspect that there were efforts being made to improve how the Blackjack interacts with the 3G towers. AT&T had to be more involved with the upgrade than if this were just a little add on to the Mobile 5 Operating System.

I have complained but also at times said I suppose we all would prefer they take an extra bit of time and get it done right this time around and fix a lot of things that could be improved upon. Hopefully our patience will be rewarded in the next few weeks!

If you want to try WM6. Then do this:

While still using WM5, do a FULL backup using Sprite Backup.
Flash to Wm6. (Don't restore your backup from WM5 on WM6. That equals problems.)

If for any reason you want to flash back down to WM5... you have a Full Wm5 backup that you can restore and it'll make the phone exactly the way you had it before WM6.

Just remember that WM5 backups are for WM5 only. WM6 backups are for Wm6 only. Never mix the two or you'll be having to do a hard reset and start from scratch.

Yea because they are adding Video Share and several other tweaks that most phones aren't going to see. Which is why its taking longer for the blackjack's WM6 then that of their other WM Devices.

There are a ton of bug fixes and improvements.

Outlook supports HTML Email now.
Pocket Internet Explorer supports hi-res pictures and doesn't double-pixelate everything
Speed improvements etc.

There are some major improvements, but the major of them are just minor bug fixes and enhancements. AT&T put in a few fixes that helps the phone hang onto a 3G signal better.
