Ok, I'm a little behind, but I am waiting on a new 7130c...

Okay, so I'm new here and I just got my first BB. I do have a couple of questions for people here.

The first is, what does it mean that the 7130c has "flash memory"? From what I understand, that doesn't mean that it's expandable. For instance, I can't use my digital camera's SD card in the phone. Or the microSD card from my old Motorola KRZR.

Also, and I'm sure this subject has already been discussed...but please be patient with me..., I have a text messaging package (AT&T) for $9.99/mo. That's 200 messages to anyone and unlimited messaging to AT&T members. I don't have any other services. I want to use the email features on my BB, but I don't want to pay an arm and a leg for the service. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I guess that's it so far. I really hope someone can help.

Thanks in advance for everything!

Just curious, why did you get a 7130 when AT&T offers the Pearl? Much more modern and more capable device.

7130c doesn't have memory card slots, so you can't expand over the 64MB it has.

To use email features on any BB, you have to have a data plan.

First off, thank you for your reply.

Secondly, I got the 7130c because it was time for me to upgrade and I didn't want to pay anything for a new phone. I have a Motorola KRZR that I really like and if the BB doesn't work out, I'll just switch back over. If it *does* work out, then I'll ask Santa for the newest, updated BB at the time for Christmas! Until then, I want to use my 7130c and get a "feel" for the BB product. Plus...it was free!

When you say that you have to have a "data plan", does that have to be a specific BB data plan?

Again, thank you for your reply. I'm expecting my BB to arrive via FedEx today and I'm literally giddy with excitement!!!

Yes, you'll need a blackberry data plan form your provider.

First off, welcome to the world of BlackBerry! I think you'll be pleased.

As someone else mentioned, you have to have at least the BIS data plan ($29.99, and it is a specific plan just for the BlackBerry). However, I would recommend the BIS + 1500 text message plan for $39.99, which would be what you would pay anyway with your current messaging package, and would give you 1300 more messages/month.

I got the phone today and OMG, I love it! I know that, for some of you, the 7130c is a "pansy" or "old" device. But for someone who has never had a BB, this is by far one of the best phones I've owned to date. And trust me, I've owned a lot of phones!! From every maker there is, I think! LOL

Thanks everyone for your help!

I signed up for the $34.99 BB package with AT&T. I have unlimited texting already (another change I made today) and now I think I'm ready to go!

I just need to browse the other threads here and on other sites to figure out how to download new themes. And how to get pictures on this thing. That's perplexing me!

If anyone has any recommendations, please...let me know!

$34.99--I'm confused as to why they charged you that. But I'm glad you like it!

Apparently they know I'm not a business and the customer service lady told me that the $29.99 rate is for businesses. Go figure, huh? Nevermind the fact that I have 5 phones on one plan!!!

Last time I checked (two days ago) the $29.99 BIS plan was still available. I would double check with another store! I'm up for anything that would save me $60/year.

i would double check that as well. Basically on ATT there should be 3 BB data plans. From least expensive to most expensive ...... personal BB plan (only supports BIS and not BES), a regular BB plan (will support BES) and unlimited international BB support. Unless you are connecting to a BES (blackberry enterprise server), you only need the least expensive plan. Last time I had a BB data plan, it didnt include any text messages, so this may be the extra $5.

The BB 7130c is an excellent BB device. It was my second BB, and first with suretype. I really liked its size and off all the phones I have owned (like you that is a lot), it by far had the best RF. The thing just worked in every crummy coverage spot. I think you will enjoy it. If you do any IMing look at jivetalk (its a pay app, but well worth it) and if you have friends with BB, get blackberry messenger. (free download).

The BB interface is the most intuitive out there. I waited and waited for a BB with wifi and gave up on my wait, and have moved to a nokia E90. I am confident there will be another BB in my future. Good luck with yours.

On the web site they have raised the price from $29.99 to $34.99, where did you find it at the old price of 29.99?
