Tethering ATT Legal??

Ok, I need to know if it is "legal" to tether my laptop to my phone. I have the unlimited data plan and Im in Florida on vacation with no internet access where Im staying except for through my 8525. My friend who has a Treo with Cingular/ATT called them to get help tethering his phone to his laptop and they told him it would be an extra cost each month to have that service. The 8525 didn't require any additional setup help and is very easy to teather where as the Treo needed some configuration which supposedly costs extra.

Has anyone been tethering with the 8525 through ATT/Cingular??? If so did you get billed for this or is it just a part of your Unlimited Data plan???

I really don't want to get hit with some crazy $ on my next bill and I'm sure if I call them they will say it is extra and try to sell me some extra service.

Thanks!

Short answer: No
Expanded answer: No, but some users do it without a problem.

Proper answer, there is a plan for tethering pda's. So, if you are tethering without the plan then you are in violation of your contract. But then, they have to notice what you are doing to begin with.

only illegal if they catch you....

actually, i cant imagine how it would differ from using the net on your phone . just dont leave it connected for hours at a time and you should be fine. AT&T shouldnt be able to notice it.

i tether my DASH to my notebook and havent seen any difference on my TMO bill.......... its different, but the same. but its SL0000ooo00000WWWW

well I used it yesterday and I'm getting DSL quality speed. I logged into my ATT account and did notice an increase data usage. probably a lot less than most since I seldom use internet on my phone unless I really need to. I was only tethered for about 30 mins. I looked at ATT tethering plans and it isn't worth it for me since I would really never need it. I'm on vacation and there is no internet here at the house wre I'm staying.

what type of usage are others using and not getting busted? just curious so I don't over do it. it does kick a@@ to be able to get DSL speed through my laptop/phone.
