T-Mobile eMail to SMS Quirk

I own a Nokia E70-2. When someone emails my tmomail.net address (phonenumber@tmomail.net) I receive an SMS from a short code like 501, 502, 503, or 504. Those are the only ones I've seen so far. The format of the body of the SMS is fromaddress/ subject/ body. That's a little weird to me - it should be from the email address of the sender, not some random short code.

So here's my question. Are there any T-Mobile users with an HTC phone who can confirm whether or not this happens for them? Would you mind posting your phone model and findings? I ask because I am strongly considering an HTC phone for my next one and if this quirk isn't there that will be a huge boon toward purchasing an HTC.

Thanks folks!

I don't use T-Mobile, but when I was with Cingular I would often have something similar happen when receiving text messages sent from an e-mail address. A friend with Cingular asked me about it a couple months ago after he got set up with service through them. I've also seen something similar on other carriers, and even Sprint periodically (rarely) delivers them as though they're coming from a short code, though that's probably more of a network issue than anything.

I did some more research and learned that this is actually just how T-Mobile's SMS-To-Email gateway works. I think it's really poor that this is deliberate, and between that and 3G I suddenly wonder how AT&T is. But I'm in a contract for a good while yet so such thoughts have no real place here.

Thanks for the feedback!
