apple care repair service question!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Hey guys,

I sent my phone in a total 2 days ago, one of them including sunday. My phone had some issues with the lighting in the screen was not lighting up on the top of the screen and the right side of the screen, which caused the screen to look off centered.

My question to you is if you HAVE sent in your phone through Apple did you recieve your phone back repaired?? Or did you end up lucky and got a brand new one??

Im just wondering if since there was something wrong with the screen I dont know how easy that is to repair so Im hoping I end up with a new phone. I wont know though until I get it back.

if yall have gone through apple care, and you thought you were just going to get your phone back repaired and ended up with a new one...how severe was your problem?(why did you send it in, in the first place?)

any feedback would be great!

Thanks guys!
RS

A section of my screen stopped responding to touch. A new iPhone was sent back to me.

I think at this point, it's unlikely that you're going to get a brand new one.

Either you will get yours back repaired, or you will get a refurb. At this point, plenty of refurbs are available.

That is true. I guess I will find out tomorrow, If they did send me out a new one, will it be packaged in a brand new box as if u bought it brand new from the store??

My screen kept locking / freezing up. Had to hard reset it at least 4 - 5 times a day. But, the new one I got runs great, no hang ups...

I took mine in this past Saturday. They said that they will ship it out Monday. My whole screen stopped responding to my touch. Couldn't answer calls or anything......

The one I got back came in a box only slightly bigger than the iPhone itself. Remember that they're only shipping you the phone back, not another cradle, AC adapter, USB cable, etc. (i.e. the original brand new box would be wayyyy big for just shipping the phone)

I'm assuming the iPhone I got back was brand new. It looked brand new, but maybe they do a very good job with refurbs.

Is there a way to check if it's a refurb or not???

I'd like to know the same thing.

I'm about to send mine in but don't want a refurb. If anything, I just want mine fixed. Sure it crashes every once in a while, and does weird things. But I have no scratches on mine, a great screen, loud speaker, loud ear piece, etc. My only problem has been with battery life.

I'm starting to wonder if it's worth the risk.

okay, I got my phone back today. I opened up my box and it was in like a skinner box than what the original black one looks like. I said gee they must have given me a new phone. It had the plastic all around the screen just as if it were new. I opened it up to find out it will still my old phone they just repaired it. I got all excited over nothing! Honestly the reason i knew it was mine, because i had a hairline scratch on the chrome bezel and i saw it there ....oh well, hopefully they repaired my problem... Or else it will be going in again!

Check the usage info on the replacement phone. If it's refurbed, the lifetime usage meter will have time accumulated.

Posted by: aristoBrat

FWIW, the loaner phone I'm using right now appeared used physically when I got it today, but the lifetime call timer says the same thing for "this period" -- just the 10 minutes I've put on it.

Apple just sent me a replacement. I hope it's a good one.

They sent me a replacement phone, too. I guess fixing the screen is too hard? The phone I got today looked perfect, so I can't tell if it was a refurb or not.

Fixing the screen is a common repair, but it probably takes longer than it would to just send out a refurb the moment your non working unit came in. Your old one will likely be fixed, cleaned up, polished and its memory wiped, and made ready as a refurb for someone else.

In any event, you have an iPhone that's closer to mint condition than then one you sent in, so be happy.

Oh, I'm happy. The phone they sent today has a 7-series screen, which is what my first phone had. Yay.

Out of curiosity, wish there was a way to know if what I got was refurb or not. I'm happy with it, regardless. If it really was a refurb, the quality is so high that I'd definitely recommend buying a refurb'ed one to anyone.

Sorry to inform you but the seven series screen absolutely sucks compared to the 5.

Posted by: aristoBrat

After a decent amount of hands-on with both screens (7 series from launch until the end of July, and a 5 series all this month), I very much prefer the 7 series screen.

It's a preference thing, kind of like how you think Verizon "is crap".

Posted by: ras4119

yeah I had 3 previous phones that were 7-series and they were absoulotely amazing. I now have a 5-series and it looks so much different than the 7. Whish I was able to get another 7. Oh well though.

Posted by: 2saints

I sent mine in for repair and was given a free loaner. 3 days later I received a new one.

btw, how can you tell if it's a 5 or a 7?

Posted by: aristoBrat

If you dial *3001#12345#*, when you hit Call, the screen should read Field Test mode.

Click on Versions. The first digit of the LCD Panel ID entry should either be a 5 or a 7.
