Sidekick Alternative

Good evening everyone. I currently have a T-Mobile sidekick and need to get rid of the T-mobile service. Can anyone out there give me some suggestions for a similar alternative for a smartphone and service. The plan that I have for the sidekick is only $60/month for 1000 minutes, unlimited nights/weekends and unlimited data/sms. I was wondering if there was a carrier out there who had a similar plan for that price with a convenient device. The AIM, email, and calendar/planner are my best friend. I need all of that for my daily functions. Thanks

In terms of the plan, the iPhone plan probably comes closest to the Sidekick.

If you want a phone with a good qwerty keyboard, maybe consider the BB Curve or U740.

It would help if you could tell us what carrier you will be choosing.

do NOT pick iphone if you are a heavy the qwerty keyboard on the iphone is not very accurate and you type much slower than you would on your sidekick(altough with practice you might get better than standard number keys). iPhone only really excels as multimedia device for music/videos/and internet browsing. Wouldnt recommend it for anything else. Just too many standard features missing for such a high end phone. I wont rehash them here just search the google they're everywhere. (and before anyone flames me YES i have used it many times as i know several people who bought one)

Anyway I digress...I suggest you look at the Helio Ocean(obviously its on Helio), the enV for Verizon(rumor is it's successor will be arriving by the end of the year so you might want to wait it out) I own the Samsung U740 also for Verizon but the 2-way hindge is extremely small so i fear breaking it although it hasnt gotten loose at all in the 3 months that i've had it so far but im still fearful as it is not covered in the warrenty should it break...that and the keys are a bit cramped but i got used to it...so definately try before you buy, the Samsung i760 again for Verizon, the Pantech C810 for AT&T which isnt not yet released (link here: http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2007/...he-helio-ocean/ ), and lastely the HTC TyTN II aka the Kaiser I dont believe it's being picked up by a carrier but it should work on any GSM carrier like AT&T. This one is unique in that when you slide out the keyboard the screen tilts upwards to a position simliar to a laptop screen.

Pretty sure all but the 1st 2 verizon phones are wifi enabled but be warned, if you go with verizon they cripple bluetooth functionaly to only headset use and the sending of name cards. no other files can be sent or recieved. Also i dont really care for their UI(doesnt apply to i760 as it is a WM6 device) either.

Then there is also your standard array of PDA Style Smartphones but since you said sidekick replacement I figured you wanted some mechanical sliding action. Let me know if you want a list of regular PDA phones.

BTW I could be mistaken but I'm pretty sure Helio has decent prices for their unlimited internet and since they use Verizon's network you'll be getting EVDO instead of crappy EDGE service like youre used to on tmobile and im pretty sure verizon's EVDO has way better coverage than AT&T's HSDPA network. (FYI: EVDO and HSDPA both are types of 3G and provide similar speeds)

And no, the U740 is not WiFi enabled.

The Kaiser is expected to launch on at&t soon.

Helio also runs on Sprint, not Verizon.

thanks everyone for the feedback.
iPhone is out of the question. I need something that serves a a phone, not a media device that can also be used as a phone. A friend of mine has the version previous to the i760. I was checking out the i760 with him, that was one I was interested in. Also the another friend picked up the helio, he loves it, but i havent had a chance to test it out yet. He will actually be stopping by later on. So i will see how well the service in my house is and the functionality of the phone. Not sure which carrier I will go with, but from my quick research T-mo, AT&T, and Verizion are the big 3 around where I live (zip code 34607). (I wont even consider nextel or sprint) I have been with T-mobile for about 6 years and have had the sidekick 2 since a little after its release. My biggest concern is getting a phone and GOOD data plan for the best price. like I said, I currently have 1000 minutes and unlimited data with the sidekick, I dont need that many minutes with a new plan though. I appreciate everyones feed back and will try and research the phones that you have suggested. if anyone has anything more to add, please feel free to do so.

Its complete designation is SGH-i760 try seaching for it on engadget.com or phonearena.com

as for the U740 not being wifi enabled he never said that feature was important and im pretty sure the sidekick doesnt have wifi either so its not like he's downgrading...and of all the phones with a full qwerty keyboard it is by far the smallest...

as for helio yes you are correct it is Sprint and not Verizon. but they too have an EVDO network(abeit not as well coverage as VZW but comparable to AT&T's)
