Cingular 8125 Charging Question!

Hi guys! I just purchased an 8125 with a cracked screen on eBay with the intent of repairing the screen myself. The unit is purported to be in perfect working order except for the screen, but when I tried charging it with the included USB cable, there was no indication of life at all. I know when these things completely die, they need the wall charger, so I brought the unit to a Cingular store, and asked them to plug it in for me... and still no lights or anything.
Upon inquiry, the eBay seller mentioned that until the screen's repaired I wouldn't be able to tell if it's on or off...
But isn't there a charging LCD on the phone itself?
