SonyEricsson WAP & MMS Setting How-To

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: mmcnier

Ok, So I have noticed alot of people needing the settings for MMS & WAP. I made a photo step-by-step on how to get the info to your phone from the SE website. You do not need to do anything on the phone, just follow my diagrams. You do not need to register on the website, but its nice to do it just in case for the future. OK, here we go...

Posted by: mmcnier

Anyone know how to make a thread be a "StickY"? I think this would really help alot of people, especially since I have seen so many people ask about how to do this...

Posted by: randomtask77

It's probably better if you instructed to go to the global support page rather than their specific country as some phones that people use are not going to be under their region

Posted by: mmcnier

When you first go to the SE website, you have to select your country. Also, you have to select your country from the drop downs on the phone info pages. If your phone is not listed for your country, it might now work anyway. It has to send the info to your phone number. I will poke around a little more. If it is possible to do it right from the website for ANY country, I will amend my diagram...

Posted by: skyline2nr

hey i've come across a problem! =( i tried sending settings to my w800i but they just wouldn't send...has any1 gotten settings for cingular/AT&t wap for their SE phone? if so can you post the settings?

thanks!

When you go to sonyericsson.com go to corporate home > product support. You don't have to choose a country, just choose your phone and what settings you want sent.

Posted by: mmcnier

The setting on the SE website will format to CingT&T. But if it wont work for you, try searching on the carriers website for the info. Thats how I used to do it before I found the SE support...

Random, thanks for the 411! I didnt think to go through the corporate portal.

Nice guide!

Posted by: christyxcore

Very nice guide. Should help a lot of people..

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

That is a great guide, but unfortunately it did not work for me when I tried doing it the exact same way back when I got my unbranded W810i. I had to go to AT&T's site and manually input the settings to get it to work.

Posted by: mmcnier

I cant help to wonder if the SE website has some issues sending the info through. Last night I was helping someone do it & I had to request the settings like 3 times...

Posted by: Jeebs4

I've had my unlocked K810 for a week now, and the SE support site has not worked at all. I've tried at least once a day. I eventually got MMS working by randomly inputting manual settings on my phone (according to the settings ROgers sent me).

The thing that puzzled me is that, I've been trying to flash my firmware to get rid of the Hong_Kong region on it. I tried on my own, only to brick the phone. So I resorted to Wotanserver and flashed it with a Generic American firmware/language pack. As soon as I flashed my phone, all my SMS/WAP profiles were automatically installed, just as if Rogers had set it up.

My phone is a mystery to me still, but at least its working fine now without me having to second guess what kind of profile I'm supposed to be creating.

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

I retract my statement. I did a master reset to my phone tonight, and tried this method. Worked the first time I tried it. I am impressed.

I am glad that alot of people are finding this helpful. Perhaps if it doesnt work, maybe they should try the master reset that you tried

Well, it looks like I'm SOL . I live in America and the K810i isn't on SE's website yet so I can't get MMS? It says I need an internet profile (from the SE website) if I want to do it by phone, but to sign-up you must select your phone from a drop down menu--which mine isn't there.

Can anyone help me?

Read post #6 of this thread.

I just tried the master reset and still no luck. The Sony Ericsson site is a little confusing as it has two AT&T settings. I was a former Cingular customer and I just need the phone to temporarily work until I jump to T-Mobile, which one do I have SE send to me? Any help is appreciated.

Posted by: Kakkyo

Actually, there is no longer any settings for the P990i and the AT&T selections have been merged into one profile. Anyone have the settings for SMS/MMS for AT&T?

Its crazy how many people go through their carriers and don't get correct information. Threads like this are key. If only every carrier gave out some sort of howardforums.com brochure....

Posted by: Baldilocks

Yes, and if more people took the time to read this sticky, there wouldn't be 20 threads in the Main Forum asking, "How do I set up my SE for internet and MMS??".

Posted by: BlueCalx

Is it just for me or are these not working for anyone? I tried to send settings to a K850 and to a W600. Neither one sent.

Also, it won't let you choose MMS settings for ATT for ANY SE phone there. Says they're not available.

Anyone got any input on that one? I'm confused...

They didnt work for me either. So I just did it the old fashioned way and went to the AT&T Device Support site. Used the settings from the w300i and they work just fine.

Posted by: BlueCalx

ditto (that's what I did for the W600)

I'll go ahead and do it for the k850. (btw, k850 rocks a**!!!)

So does the w910i...if only it had 850/1900 3G.

I just tried their phone setup service with the K850i and it sent me the settings but when I chose to install them, the phone told me they were invalid.

I'm going to do it manually...

Posted by: nickcarr3151

Update: As I didn't listen to the directions. You MUST select the corporate link to the Phone Setup page. It has the latest providers listed.

The provider listed was AT&T (Former Cingular)... this one worked for my K850i.

Thanks for the help! Its working now!

i'm using tmobile in the US. for some reason, i couldn't set up to send email (just simple text message going to email account!!) i tried going to tmobile and SE's site to have setup sent to my phone via SMS, doesn't work. when sending email, it keeps on saying cannot connect to server. i called tmobile and they couldn't help (shocker!). any idea how to set it up? i went to the SE corp site, selecting email setting, chose email provider = tmobile mail, incoming server = t-mobile usa. that didn't work either.

any info is great help!

I could get the gmail setting to work tho. setting it up manually of course. however, i dont want to use gmail too much coz i'm not sure how much tmobile charge me for using that. that's why i'm trying to set up the simpliest text message style of emailing out, i have $2.99 text message plan.

If you're going by the directions of the first post, that leads to the United States support page.

But if you go to the corporate support page, it'll have the settings for every single SE product instead of country specific products (did you notice that the W910 is NOT listed in the US sony ericsson site?).

badteddy - I tried using the US support page, but it only listed ATT (not the old Cingular/ATT) and for some reason the ATT settings would *never* get sent to my phone.

I followed some else's instructions about going to the corp page for the support settings for cingular, and those worked for me.. SE needs to get their s*** straight.

Thank you for your help though.

i am from the US. and everything was listed but all the website did was just sit there saying "No specific blah blah blahs"

Hey there guys, read through a bunch of threads tried everything etc. Got an interesting problem for you. Other than the w200a not being one of the phones I can send info to, and I tried other phones settings didnt work. Tried the AT&T device support page, no go cause the phone isn't sold by them (I bought it from Sony). The big deal is i have an OOOLLLD AT&T SIM card from before Cingular bought them and then changed back to AT&T. Is it going to be impossible to get MMS and internet set up on this phone without a new SIM card?

I'd say you are going to need a new AT&T SIM card.

Good news is, I got a new card. Bad news is, nothing has worked so far. Gonna keep trying, but if anyone has any tips for a W200a phone, that'd be great

Have you tried the settings from the w300i on the AT&T device support page?? Those pretty much work for any SE. (You mght have to figure out some of the fields as they might have a different terminology on an unbranded vs. branded phone.)

I'm an idiot, i forgot the "ar" on cingular for the internet stuff. Only problem now is MMS settings which even when I follow the other thread seem to...not work right. I went on the att site and under MMS for the w300i, it doesnt really get specific, just says to select MEdia Net. boo.

thanks btw!

edit: ok there's gotta be something up, cause i can access the internet just fine, and i have the MMS settings just right, but i get a connection error when i try to get my MMS message.

Any help for T-Mobile folks as far as settings go? I have tried the T-Mobile USA settings for a T610 and that has not gone over too well with me. The Sony Ericsson OTA settings page does not have settings for T-Mobile either. The T-Mobile reps have regurgitated the advice to try the T610 settings so they aren't too much of help either.

Does anyone have the settings to get T-Mobile picture messaging working?

And any reason why I can't send a text message to an e-mail address on T-Mobile, but yet on Cingular/AT&T I was able to?

Posted by: jfmezei

I do not wish to go through web sites that send me an SMS to set the phone up, I want to fully understand and set it up myself.

I am with Fido, and the APNs are:
GPRS: internet.fido.ca
WAP: wap.fido.ca
MMS: mms.fido.ca

(username fido, password is the same as username)

On my siemens M55 phone, the setup was quite simple:
A GPRS setting with internet.fido.ca as APN, a WAP setting with WAP.fido.ca as APN etc.

On my new SE 790a, the setup seems different (although more powerful since it allows multple profiles).

In the "Settings", there are 2 major sections:

Data Communication
Internet Settings

Is there a simple explanation of what each of those two is used for ? My *GUESS* is that "Internet Settings" is really just "Browser settings". Is that correct ?

In the case of WAP, is there an expectation of a WAP APN in the Data Communication section and an "Internet Settings" pointing to that WAP APN without specifcying a proxy server ? Or does it want a GPRS APN with a proxy server pointing to the WAP APN ? (is there a default port if that is the case ?)

I can get the browser to work using the GPRS APN, but i suspect that the handset is getting raw data from the remote web servers, and I figure that going through a WAP gateway will reduce GPRS costs since fewer bytes will be sent over the air.

The EMAIL works fine with the GPRS APN, as does the one JAVA app I added (Google MAPS).

I got MMS t o work both way by creating a MMS profile in the Data Communication pointing to mms.fido.ca and then going to the messaging settings and setting the "Picture Messaging" to point to that MMS profile in Data Comm.

The small manual that came with the unit was totally useless for this.

fiveagain: Please re-read my post, I made specific mention that I am still fighting with this.

The only thing I can recommend is try getting the settings from T-Mobile Customer Care and then phoning up Sony Ericsson's support line to see if they can configure the phone over the phone during their regular business hours. I work during their business hours, otherwise I would have published settings, but they may not work for you as my phone is a P990i while yours is a K770i.

Try searching the K-series post in this forum that has the settings published, that will probably get you the answer you're looking for.

sorry for the confusion. i quoted your post because i am going through a similar issue. so someone reading could see both problems and hopefully answer at least one. didn't mean to confuse.

Searched all over, have a W600i on T-MO ... SE website WILL NOT semd me the settings no matter what model i choose, and I tried to manually put it in .. no luck ...

HeLp!

when i try to do this with the p1i it basically tells me nothing

Posted by: jimmy0x52

I am getting a k850i - but currently have a RAZR unbranded / unlocked. I'm on T-Mobile.

I went into the MMS settings and this is what I have:

Service Name: PictureMessaging
Server Name: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Web Session Name: PictureMessaging

My web session is as such:

Homepage: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Service Type 1: WAP
Proxy 1: 216.155.165.050
Port 1: 9201
Service Type 2: WAP
Proxy 2: 216.155.165.050
Port 2: 9201
DNS 1: 000.000.000.000
DNS 2: 000.000.000.000
Timeout: 15 minutes
GPRS APN: wap.voicestream.com

Everything else is blank. I'm hoping this helps. I was also given these links for setting up TMobile settings for the K850i:

WAP:
https://sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/...=mobile%20phone

MMS:
https://sonyericsson.wdsglobal.com/...=mobile%20phone

Haven't had a chance to test myself, but they do actually allow you to type a number in after choosing US / T-Mobile / K850i whereas the page people normally send out gives that 'no settings available' message and doesn't allow you to type a phone number in.

Give it a whirl, lemme know if it works so I can use it for my phone when it gets here Thursday.

Posted by: IndyCellRepair

Sony Ericssons site is going through some changes or something that is causing the ATT/Tmobile setting to not work correctly. People are not getting the settings. You can get around this my clicking on the "having trouble finding your provider" link that pops up every now and then. Then click on the settings for "Cingular(former ATT customer)" and you should get the settings right away. Same works if you are not getting the message for T-Mobile.

Posted by: Spinoza

not working for me for some reason

This link always works for me.

Posted by: Mizah

Thanks, worked like a charm.

Posted by: jimmy0x52

Those two links I posted above (that indycellrepair reposted) definately work. I just did it last night with my new phone.

Posted by: balmo

jimmy0x52, i used the link from your post #51. i finally received something on my k810i but it said: "list of data accounts full. delete unused accounts and try again." anybody knows what this means? sorry im still new with configuring celphones

Posted by: Apachedelta

I've come across two issues with Sony Ericsson's push update site: the first issue - with regards to the browser settings, after I choose Canada, then Rogers as the Operator, the W810i as my phone model, then it wants me to select a "data account" of which there are two choices: Rogers and Rogers Internet. Which one do I choose, and why are there two choices? This brings me to the second issue. I chose Rogers Internet, and after going through the next steps, I am able to send the settings to my phone, and it receives them, but I can't install them because it's telling me that my phone has no more room for more profiles. Argh! It leaves me no choice of letting me delete any existing profiles while the install procedure waits in the background; it just self-aborts. So I delete about two or three profiles (I had from another country) and go to the Sony Ericsson website and go through the procedure again. It sends me the settings but my phone never receives them. So I try the MMS settings. Again, it tells me that I have no room left on my phone for new profiles. Ah for Pete's sake! So I try the browser settings again, still nothing. So I pop in the SIM card from my wifes phone, this time it works. It seems that you can only send the settings once to each SIM card. What's up with that?

I have the W580i with AT&T. I've tried the setup for WAP and MMS on the US site and the corporate site. I have tried the AT&T and AT&T Former Cingular. I have tried everything. I receive no settings.

One thing to note. I have not yet debranded my phone. My settings are in working order. Perhaps I'm missing the obvious answer to this question, but could that be why I don't receive the settings? Maybe thats why others haven't either? I'm scared to de-brand without knowing I can get my settings back

Thanks

Why don't you just add the settings in manually?? It will save you a lot of headaches.

Posted by: sandsukka

EDIT: Thanks Baldilocks for your help. Everything went smooth as glass

If you have the W580i with AT&T and you flash to newest firmware R8BA024, you're phone should automatically download and configure your WAP settings. Mine did atleast. I then had to manually set the MMS settings which took like 3 short inputs. I'm glad it all went smoothly, good luck to everyone

The AT&T settings are right in this SubForum. If you posted in this thread then you looked right over them.

Between SE's site and T-mo, I have WAP working normally and MMS works. BUT.....it will not work for international numbers. I can send and receive SMS to/from international numbers, but MMS WILL NOT WORK! I've tried T-mo customer service but they've never seen or heard of a k810i. I have set up other phones on SE's site with absolutely no problems in the past. But for some reason, this does not work for me.

Oh, and there are no settings on this page .

I believe it has to do with the United states (little s) issue. SE's site is a mess and I can't send an MMS internationally.

Sorry For My Ignorance, But, Does Anybody Know How To Set Up The Wap/gprs/mms For A Se Z520a But, Under Att (prior To Att-cingular Merge)?

im having same troubles too when i joined and regisered n sony and used there config it didnt work,,, i still cant send texts but can recieve ill look at the guide

Posted by: Abduction

I've posted in the other sticky and I can't get any of these settings to work...I've even deleted the picture text profile and tried to get the website to update the phone...it sends the settings to my phone but then fails to install the setting.

It will display a note icon with a red x in the corner saying picture text settings not saved.

Frustrating

I have a s500i just like the example post

Posted by: Heavy Fluid

What provider? I have found that it takes a couple of tries from SE's site for them to load properly. My S500i took 4 tries I think.

Posted by: Abduction

I've tried it five times now

My carrier is AT&T
