Quick question about an unlocked i880

If one could answer this asap I would be in great apreciation. If I buy an unlocked i880 and use it on Boost, I know that the cellular service and DC will work but will text mesaging work? If not, what would I need to do to get it working? Thank you in advance!

I think this is in the wrong forum.

Don't see how SMS would work if you have no phone service. SMS goes via the voice network, not data.

I would have cell service. What i am asking is if I put a Boost SIM in an unlocked Nextel i880, will texting work as well? I have heard conflicting info.

If I'm not mistaken, texting would work fine. To use MMS though, you may need a codeplud mod. (I could be wrong on that, but I'm prety sure its correct). A brief search on "boost text" or "boost mms" or similar terms should provide you some more info.

The URL's in the CP will most definitely have to be moddified. Also writing the Boost CSD to the phone won't hurt. If your Boost account is already set up for MMS messaging and those mods are made to the cp of a Nextel phone, then your text and media messaging will work.

Write the Boost CSD to it. It should work if they moddified your codeplug correctly. This is also taking into account that you have MMS Messaging set up on your Boost account. Unless your Boost account is a couple years old or more or unless you activated your boost account with a old phone such as a i730 that does "Net Messaging", then your account "should" already be set up for MMS Messaging.

It will work, just something isn't completely correct yet.

Write the Boost CSD as I had said and let us know what it does.

I do not know if this will work for BOOST but..... my GF has an unlocked i885 running on NEXTEL. When she first got it none of the MMS or regular text messages would work. A call to NEXTEL "tier 2 technical support" got the problem fixed over the phone. "Tier 2" is the highest level of tech support and they were able to fix the problem even though it was not a NEXTEL phone, but a unlocked BOOST.
