Best Activation Method?

Hello All,

I just received my iphone and wanted to know what all the HoFo-ers thought about which method is the best, especially considering that I will want to SIM unlock my phone as well (not sure which method I will be using for that yet though). I want to activate my phone before SIM unlocking it, because I want to wait out and see if any of these software methods will actually pan out (especially the free ones). I'll give them another week and then attempt the hw unlocks or the sim clone methods.

So from my research these are the methods that currently exist:

I might have missed a couple and got a few of them confused. Any help would be much appreciated. Also can someone point me to definitions of all of these...I checked out the iphone dev wiki...but there is just soo much information -- I guess it'll take some time before I figure everything out.

I just "activated" my phone with the iphone-unlock program (the first link on your list). the activation worked flawlessly. the only thing I can't figure out so far is how to get the web programs to work over wifi... every time I try to use safari or google maps it says it can't find Edge.... even though I'm connected to my wifi network at full strength. anyone know?

I thought skipping the activation would tide me over until the software unlock comes out, but if I can't access the internet over the wifi, uh, what's the point of wifi?

I used the hacked itunes method and the wifi works ok over here

i couldnt bypass activation with ibricker, i dont think i had the right steps. i used

whats the difference between that, and this http://www.hacktheiphone.com/iphone...or_windows.html ?

do i have to specifically go through hacktheiphone's method in order to use a different att sim? as far as im concerned, both methods bypass activation, however does the iphone-unlock-toolkit allow you to use a different att non-iphone sim? basically, are these 2 the same, or are they different. thx

For all versions of iTunes, it seems the best/easiest/most favorable currently is the 2-step activation (1. Apptappinstaller and 2. PACAY). The PACAY package includes the "lockdownd" method of simply overwriting the file that checks for activation. This method survives a full restore.

If you do the above 2-step activation, you will also activate or enable Youtube in one fell swoop.

The other methods are either older or will only work with itunes versions older than 7.4 (including the PQDVD 1-click method).

Just got my iphone unlocked last night, and I 100% agree with what floepie says -- 2-step activation is just easy! YouTube and other stuffs all works. Try it even if you only have a Mac.

I agree with you 100% as well, this 2 click process worked like a charm!

This might be nothing strange but when I unboxed my iPhone and pressed on the power button+Home button there was no yellow triangle icon no matter how long i held it. Only when I connected to iTunes and did the same procedure, the yellow triangle showed up. Is there any way to know if your iPhone has the latest firmware since the activation screen prevents you from going into settings?

patched lockdownd is the best way to activate and get rid of the activate/incorrect sim nag screen for good...
