I am a current AT&T customer and I don't really enjoy signing contracts. I already have unlimited data. Is AT&T still requiring all iphone customers sign a 2 year contract? I would like to get the phone around the time of Leopard's release, hoping for updates, but I just want the phone with no contract obligations.

Yep - 2 year contract is mandatory if you activate the 'regular' way. Supposedly you can use the iPhone, but certain features (i.e. Visual Voicemail) will not work by activating one of the 'other' ways (fake iPhone Activation).
