Nokia 6300: how to get rid of the 4-way Navi Shortcuts on the screen

Fido branded Nokia 6300, is there a way to get rid of the navigation cross in the middle of the screen, this seems to be independant of the theme selected, I always get a green cross and 4icons representing the selected application, if i go to settings/my shortcut/ navigation key and remove all four app i still have the damn cross in my main screen... anyone ?

to get rid of it you might try and go to settings/display/activestandby/personalize view and removing the option

I had the same thing, I just went Menu > Settings > Display > Navigation key icons, then turned them on and then off. It's set to off by default, but still displays by default as well. This resets it to *actually* off.
