IM Programs... Need help.

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Okay... MobileChat is out now and I really like what it's offering. An IM program (native) is all I've been waiting for to complete the phone for me. Not mms, nor flash, but an IM program.

Anyone know of step by step (newbie) instructions to help me get this on my iPhone. I do not want to brick the phone and I believe I need "installer.app" but can't find a place to download from.

I also have windows Vista. I'm unsure if this makes a difference, but all instructions I see for anything iPhone have been for XP or Mac.

HELP!

Thanks in advance,

Use ibrickr, easiest way to get it on.

Agreed...I used iBrickr on my Vista PC, and it worked fine.

Download ibrickr here: http://ibrickr.com/downloads/ibrickr_v0.8.zip

Follow the steps, then click on Applications, then click on Browse Applications.
Then after that, click on Installer v2.4 and you're all done.

Then open installer on your iphone, and it will list all the applications you can install. It will automatically download and install them for you, and let you know if they've been updated and will upgrade them.

Mobile Chat does the same... Have you tried this one yet?

Posted by: nouse4aname699

I have. but it didnt have the aim noise it just had the standard iphone sound effects. Im sticking with apollo im for now untill apple comes out with ichat mobile

Also... If I free my iPhone, can I restore and "jail" my iPhone once again? I want to be able to restore so I don't lose my warranty on it.

Reason I'm saying this is because if iChat comes out, I will just use that.

Edit: I'm one click away waiting for click "Free my iPhone!"

A restore will re-jail it.

HEHE... FREE BABY ... FREE !!!!

OMG I did it just for the IM program. Now I'm uploading ringtones.... Yay!

Posted by: Jayden0606

Anyone know of a good program to chop up ringtones? I want the most user friendly one.

Posted by: dabadie

do either one if these program include ICQ?

Posted by: Jayden0606

From my knowledge... no.

I just noticed today, on my unlocked iPhone neither of the IM apps work on Edge, only on Wifi. Wonder if it's related to the Youtube issue

Posted by: worksux

wait so you cant use any of the IM apps without Wifi?

Posted by: eas

Apollo is on it's way to supporting protocols beyond AIM. I think the library they are using supports MSN, yahoo and others.

atleast not with tmobile

Posted by: Jayden062006

I have been using it on EDGE. When I did connect to a Wifi location (2nd job, bestbuy) I was unable to log on. I believe it may have been their firewalls and site restrictions.

Posted by: Airkat

is this on ATT?

Posted by: peechylyfe

On the other (Safari) based IM clients they would run on the EDGE constantly...

Does apollo or mobile chat do this too? also when you "close out of the app" or return to the home screen... does that sign you off of the chat program?

Posted by: mattdnj

ApolloIM does not sign you out of AIM when you go back to the home screen.

I cant say for MC since I was unable to get it running.

thanks... do you know if it constantly runs like the web-based ones, so you miss calls?

I was using mobile chat, and when i got a phone call. it disconnected me from the aim convo i was having and when i was done with the call, it didnt sign me back in and had to re-enter my screen name and password.

Any way to get this working like a normal AIM client?

The iPhone isn't 3G, it uses GPRS. GPRS and the phone can not be in use at the same time. Some AIM clients will pause your connection and auto-reconnect once you're off the phone but not all -- and certainly not any of the beta apps out now.

well my sidekick 3 is edge and i know it can not do data and voice at the same time, but after i hang up the call on my sidekick my aim keeps me logged in.

but i think you just answered the question. that it doesn't auto reconnect because its beta.

it works with both edge and wifi with the BB data plan.

Posted by: worksux

character limit

Posted by: coinstar99

I have been using mobile chat and like it but it doesn't remember my log in info, does Apollo do this? I didn't think Apollo stayed logged in if you went to the home screen

Posted by: Airkat

Posted by: dabadie

im trying to load apollo

i downloaded ibrickr and get to where it says the iphone needs to be shut down and restarted in restore mode
Ive tried that a few times and cant get it to start in retore mode, any ideas?
Ive help the power button on top and home key but never wants to start in restore mode

Posted by: Airkat

Hold it until it shows up. The apple should disappear and reappear once. Then the Triangle will appear. Be patient.

Posted by: xQuestx

make sure its plugged into the usb port when you do the reset.

Posted by: dabadie

ah okj
got it
cant wait for a multi IM client so i can use aim and ICQ

Posted by: Jayden0606

I'm happy with just AIM as I don't use the other programs, but it would be nice if they supported the other clients.

Posted by: bigmike20

So Mobile Chat use data or text when chatting?

Posted by: mantra2

is apollo im only for AIM ?
Any that support AIM, Yahoo, and MSN?

Posted by: Jayden0606

I know for Apollo IM, it was only AIM... and I believe Mobile Chat as well... I only used MC once or twice and forgot.
