Overclocking the Touch

I tried to overclock my Touch ti 286Mhz. So far no problems. The windows appear to open faster. How do I test the upgraded speed to make sure its really at 286? Any risk involved?

if you notice a difference in your performace then you know someting is better... there is really no way that you can stick a device on your mobile and see if your handheld is really clocking at certian speeds

I see. Thanks

If you are using a program like Battery Status, you can have your CPU speed on the today screen and see what speeds your phone is running at.

You'll need to download and install Overclocking software. I am using Battery Status

I'm running 286mhz now...is anyone running 299 stable?

I use Battery Status and OC at 260 with no problems. I've had it up to 286 for a couple of days last week with no issues either but I feel safer at 260. 260 does what I need it to.

I've tried overclocking with battery status 1.5, only for my HTC Touch to freeze up. Can anyone direct me to battery status 1.6 or other software for my touch?

What speed did you set it to before it freezes up?

Does this apply to all versions of the touch? or just the GSM? I think I may end up going with Telus, since its $100 cheaper.

I believe that over-clocking programs are processor specific, so the previous messages only apply to the TI OMAP processor found in the original GSM Touch and the enhanced GSM Touch. All other phones in the Touch family are based on the newer Qualcomm MSM7200 (GSM) and MSM7500 (CDMA) chipsets which run at 400 MHz. Someone one day may write an OC program for these chipsets, though the only "improvement" the average user is likely to see is decreased battery life ...
