Hello Everyone,

After having a chance to experiment with the Nokia 5100 for a day, I would like to post my impressions of the 5100.

Pros

-RF/Call Volume is quite good even while out on a street.
-Signal pickup here in the UK is good and I haven't had any signal-related problems yet.
-Protection offered by the phone's changable shells is better than on past phones I have used.
-Triband capability is very useful (in my case since I spend a lot of time in both Europe and in the US).
-The little extras (FM radio, speakerphone, flashlight, thermometer, calorie counter and sound meter) are quite useful and also provide a little fun in addition to the usual Nokia features (Calculator, stopwatch and alarm clock).
-WAP/XHTML browser works ok but isn't superior to past WAP browsers I've used. It will do .
-My favorite features on the 5100 are the Java-capability (I've been able to install some Java-based games) and Image Gallery/Background Pics.

Now on to the keypad:

-Keypad layout beats the 7210 and the spacing between the individual number keys prevents you from pushing the wrong key.
-The number keys, the left softkey (w/Send button), the right softkey (w/End button) and the 4-way keys are easy to push and respond well to a single pressing touch.

Battery Life:
-haven't had any trouble yet, I charged the battery for less than the first-time overnight charge of 10 hours (was closer to 3 or 4 after I returned home from work last night) since I needed the phone after getting it so I have yet to evaluate the actual battery performance.

Cons

-While the IrDA port is quite useful, the fact that you cannot send any images taken with the HS-1C camera or downloaded ringtones to other IR-capable devices is frustrating but a minor issue when considering that the 5100 will at least let you receive cropped images and ringtones.
-Power button is difficult to press, you have to press it hard to get the phone to power on/off and to select the Profiles.

Conclusion

My review has not considered all features/possibilities of the phone so others may find something I have missed in the Pros or Cons sections.

But overall, the 5100 is a great phone and complements the other Nokia Series 40 phones (6100, 6610, 7210 & 7250). It's still a bit pricey if you get it by itself (I paid £235) but it's unlocked and will work in the spots that most of us need it.

Complete specs and info on the 5100 is available at: www.nokia.com/phones/5100.

If anyone has any feedback or comments/questions about my review, post them below or PM me.

Thanks
