Thanks for all the commentary on this device. After reviewing all the threads, I bought one. Been using it for a week (came from the Dash most recently), and love it. Size is great, battery life is good, and it really works quite well with the finger tip control.

#1 app for me is phone (heavy user), followed closely by email (heavy user). Jury is still out on best soft keyboard. I like both the PCM and the SPB keyboards, for different reasons. May keep and use both.

I'm in Los Angeles, btw, and the coverage has been great - at least as good as the Dash.

I have to ask, being an MDA user, is the typing as good as I hope.
I plan on buying one of these tomorrow and use email/txt more than anything.
is the typing really that good with the new software, or are there a lot of corrections to make when messaging. speed, accuracy, etc. Any comments?

I'm a very haevy Texter, I send about 100 a day. I use the Touch phone pad, and i haven't slowed down compared too my other QWERTY phones. Check the PPC forum and you'll see that a lot of poeple don't have problems with typing on their touch.

Hope this helps?

I'm not really a Touch user, but I do have one of the Touch ROMs flashed to my Wizard, and a combo of phonepadd+PCM keyboard is fine for about 20-30 2 or 3 paragraph emails a day, as well as 10-15 "yes/no" ones.

ok, heres a new question. I broke down and bought it. it has the potential to be an awesome device!
Heres my problem, I'm on Tmobile in nyc, phone works, wifi works, but the GPRS is not working and there are no US settings on this phone. I tried new zeland/vodaphone like someone else suggested, but still no results. anyone know of a rom or something I can do to make this work for tmobile/us?

I plan on getting one of these phones and using it on the att system as a back-up until the I get the htc 8925. I have 3 friends in Florida and they are loving the phone and they are also do a lot of texting..said they have no problem with it..just got to get use to the touch after using the regular keyboard for so long.

I got it, I love it, but for someone who uses it primarily for mail/txt,
I gotta say that there is no KB software that makes me completely happy.
The happy tapping isnt as accurate as I'd like and it sucks to have to switch to do simple keys such as @, /, or even . ..
The full screen keyboard is more accurate to me, but no tab kep to jump from one field to another.
I'm actually finding myself tapping away on defaut KB with stylus and taking forever to get a paragraph sent.
other than that, I do love the thing. HTC should do the right thing and develop text entry software of thier own.

I agree with you about HTC making one for us, try pocketCM KB, or the HTC phone pad.

Oh and welcome too the TOC.

PCM keyboard is great even on a Wizard, which has a slideout hardware KB. When I'm on the bus or just walking around and need to look up a number, it's great to be able to just pull up a nice big keyboard on screen and not have to slide out and wait for the screen to rotate and whatnot.

well after using the touch for 3 days.... i dunno if it's just mee.. but i find the battery life as... sucks.... i've been draining the battery every night (waiting till the battery completely dies.. then charge it over night)..... my settings are on power saving mode... such as lowest backlight... putting it on sleep mode everytime i dunt use it etc... the only thing i have on that'll suck the battery is AIM .... but still i shouldnt be having 30% battery life when it's 6 or 7 pm already.... i only make like 3 .. 5 min phone calls a day.. and a text here and there with aim.... is it my phone or my battery?? anybody else having the same problem?? can i fix this by doing a hard reset or something? because i can't live my life carrying a charger with me around the city lol.....

I also realize that sometimes... even though i lock it and put it on sleep mode.... the screen turns on for some reason... without it being touched... anybody else having the same issue? thanks for all your future replies...

Who is your service provider??

If you are using sprint or verizon keep AIM on will kill your battery because it is maintaining a internet connection.

On GSM providers like T-Mobile it will cause some drain but not significant..

Yes, but you have to set up the voice tags before it works, which is a bit time consuming.
