Can't tether on E; only 3g with Samsung a707

I have noticed that I can tether only at certain locations and never at other locations even when signal strength is strong. Internal browser works fine. I am signed up for MM200. I recently noticed that when an E appears on phone I can't ever tether and when 3g appears I can always tether. A friend with Treo650 can tether when E appears so it's not an internet availability issue. I suspect it has to do with my Cingular Sync (Samsung a707) phone. Any suggestions on how to overcome this problem would be appreciated

I set up tethering a while back, tried it out at home (Edge only), and it worked fine. Maybe there's a profile glitch?

I used to have the opposite problem with my CU500. That is quite odd...

Are you tethering over Bluetooth or USB?

If Bluetooth, make sure you have the AT string from the following thread: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1111340

It fixed all my tethering problems with my CU500. What's weird is some of my phones require it to tether, and some don't. However, they ALL work when I have it on there, so it doesn't hurt anything to add it.

I have tried both BT and USB with the same effect. I have also tried the init string without affect. I consistently am able to tether with 3g displayed but never with E displayed. Any ideas or theories as to how to fix would be much appreciated?

That sounds possible, but how do I check my profile?
