Battery Life For Motorola W315

Hello there. I came upon this site by googling to find out if anyone else has the same battery issues with the Motorola W315 flip phone that I have. I've had it for about 6 months now and the battery life has never been as good as I have had with other phones. But it's gotten progressively worse and now it's to the point that it will show fully charged and after 10 minutes (roughly) of talk time it will give me the low battery notification beep. The phone will last for maybe another 10-20 minutes at best before it powers down.

Until today I thought the battery just sucked and was getting ready to go purchase a new battery for it. When it died this morning, I had to turn on my phone again in hopes that it would last long enough for me to get a phone number out of it. When I turned it on it showed 2 bars of power! I left in on, flip closed and off the charger for the next 30 minutes and it still showed 2 bars of life! Now I'm all kinds of confused. Is it the battery or is it the phone itself? My only guess is that the battery is holding the power but not using it properly or something.

Has anyone else had problems like this? Is there a fix or does the phone just suck? Help please?

Try cleaning the battery contacts on both the battery and the phone. The erratic behavior you described could be caused by poor contact. Also poor contact could prevent the battery from charging to full capacity.

I use a Q-Tip moistened, but not dripping, with isopropyl alcohol.

If that doesn't improve the battery performance, it's probably a bad battery.

Thank you. I let it completely die overnight, then cleaned off the contacts before putting it on the charger this morning. We'll see if that helps. I really hope so.

Well that didn't seem to help. it just gets progressively worse, but I've noticed something new. When it acts like it's powering down it stays on the splash screen for a minute or two then comes back up, saying No Network. That stays for another minute and then it's fine. This is one screwy phone!.

Does it act normal if you leave it plugged in to the charger? If so, a bad battery is probably the cause. If it acts strange on the charger too, then it's a bad phone.

Yes, it acts normal on the standard AC charger. However it doesn't seem to be connecting properly to my current car charger either. I did try a new battery the other day and, although the life lasts a little longer (by about 10 mins) it's still doing the same thing.

Thank you for your help. However I think I'm throwing my hands up in the air on this one. I'm going to be purchasing a new, NON-Motorola, phone this afternoon and this time I'm going to get the extra insurance.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem, it's quite annoying. I talk for five minutes and the phone dies, then goes back to a full charge after a couple of minutes.

Here's the catch: I'm not the only one. The same battery and ones like it (all the USB charging phones) like the krzr, razr, and the others have the same problem - they die after a few minutes. I'm thinking the only solution is to get a non-motorola brand battery (extended or something), and see if that works.

Since I can't afford $200 for a plan renewal and/or new phone, my only option is to figure this out. It's really getting on my nerves.
