Swapping Verizon Phones...

I am a recent convert from Cingular and I am used to being able to swap my phones around via SIM card. I realize that CDMA doesnt use SIMs, but how can I swap from phone to phone using the same number like I used to? Or can I? Do I have to go into a store every time I want to swap? Surely that isnt the case. And what exactly are those shady Verizon salespeople doing to a phone when they are activating it anyway. At my store they kinda hide back there like they are freakin' Interpol or something. LOL
