What is a good way to hook up the iphone to cars? (possibly with a cradle of some sort and for under $100..)

So I never got any responses to this... Does anyone know? Thanks in advance..

(This is just from my own personal experience Never use docks from DLO unless their firmware can be updated. I had an issue where mine wouldn't recognize my iPod after iTunes moved to 7.0 (something in the way it indexes the files). DLO's answer was to release a new dock (with same name HomeDeluxe, or something like that) but one that would play nice & was user upgradeable. I'm sure this is the same with other docks as well, but I'm weary of DLO ever since.

The easiest way to connect your iPhone is an RCA cable to the back of an aftermarket head unit (or AUX input). What vehicle are you driving?

I've had pretty good luck with the ipod2car, hooked to my stock GM radio:

The iPhone always asks to go into airplane mode, but I say no, and have experienced zero interference issues with it. Plus, I can use the steering wheel controls to change tracks.

The DLO tansdock doesn't have any firmware and doesn't affect the iPhone in any way. It is just a power dock with a FM transmitter.

okay, this is something related to this. If you have a AUX port in the car, shouldn't iphone play out of the car speakers when you have it connected. I use the AUX port in my car with my ipod and i have no problems with it, the music plays out of the car speakers. But when i hook it with my iphone to play songs, i get nothing. What am i missing?

nm, i found the answer

Make sure the jack is all the way into the i phone. I've heard of alot of problems due to the special i phone jack. If it's not going in far enough, try shaving back the rubber/plastic a little bit

You can get a FM Transmitter for less then $10 or get a Cassette tape that has a 3.5mm wire attached for $5

To get the best sound you'll definitely want to use the line out from the dock into an auxillary port in the head unit, if you're lucky enough to have one. It sounds way better than an auxillary cable out of the headphone port.

I'd really like to see a dock/steering wheel remote combo that works for the iPhone. Then you could use the line out from the dock and use a remote to control the music.

The iPhone uses the same 30 pin connector that the iPod uses. Right? So if my HU has an iPod adapter built it the iPhone should work. Right? With a lot of after market radios you can get an iPod adapter. Mine would allow me to control the iPod (not sure about the iPhone) directly from the head unit.

I dealt with this back in the day when I put a barebones computer in my trunk to play MP3s. (Yeah, *that* far back in the day) An aftermarket head unit with line-in is the best solution in regards to audio quality. The second best solution is a cassette adapter if the head unit in your car already has a cassette player (if it doesn't, buy a head unit with line-in).

FM transmitters are basically junk. I honestly have no idea how people can tolerate how poor the audio quality is. They do make high end "feeders" that install an adapter in between your radio and your antenna to eliminate interference, but the quality still sucks (it won't sound "CD quality" no matter what) and they're almost as expensive as just buying a new head unit.

Now if you happen to be driving a "high end" car and don't like the look of an aftermarket head unit, there are adapters to let you connect the CD changer interface (if it's really a "high end" car, it has a CD changer interface) on your head unit to an iPod. They're generally not cheap, but hey, that's life with an expensive car.

Let me disagree with this. I put my iPhone in DLO Dock and it (iphone) showed that this dock doesn't support iPhone. After that my screen went black, and phone started getting extrimelly hot. my phone died.
I would call DLO to find out if any docks support iPhone.

I have mine connected to my alpine vehicle hub pro in my car. It gives me touch screen access to the songs on my iphone as well as keeps my fine nice and charged. The iphone is compatible with all high-speed alpine units... cable # KCE-422i

use a cassette adapter and rest the iphone on your lap or in your cup holder. you can listen to your music through your car and even make calls and receive calls. the microphone on the iphone still works when you have your iphone hooked up to your car with a cassette adapter and people say they can hear me really clear when i am talking to them through my car stereo using the cassette adapter. make sure u get an apple iphone cassette adapter so it will fit the iphone's headphone jack, or just use a regular cassette adapter plus a headphone adapter for the iphone so it will fit. all of this should cost less than $30-40
