This is not how the sync process works on my iPhone. It will only upload the new files. I use a Mac, so perhaps pc's are different, but I'd be surprised.

I never thought I would like it as much as I do. I used to like doing everything manual but when you have thousands of songs in your library, you will appreciate iTunes. Couldnt live without it. It is far from BLOATWARE/FARTWARE. It is a necessity. Not to mention they have the most extensive content on the planet.
