Returning open but not (properly) activated iPhone to ATT store...

I'm a few days into my new iPhone, but I have a strong feeling I'm gunna be taking it back, unless....

1) they come up with a fix for the quiet volume. My external speakers are fine, quite loud actually, the earpiece while on the phone however is not. Turned up max it is only adequate for a quiet room. Forget being in a semi-loud place in public with it.

2) they come up with some drag and drop via explorer or ftp type file management for pictures, music, and video at the very least. I've never been much of a fan of iTunes....and the whole sync thing and the way itunes handles it just drives me up the freekin wall. The phone is very very intuitive and simple to use effectively, but getting stuff on and off is very far from it.

....before the 14 days are up, which I'm afraid is going to be pretty unlikely. Otherwise I like it a lot.

Anyways, I'm running it hacked with my existing sim on a normal voice only plan right now. The phone itself is nothing to get back into proper shape of course, just simply restore it. The people at the store on the other hand though....how to go about handeling them? The why are you returning it part is expected and legitimate and all, it's how to deal with them beyond that. I dont think it'll be as simple as I'm returning it cause of this that and the other, get my money back (minus the 10%), and out the door 5 mins later. I'm sure they will probably want to try and take care of the plan for me, try to put me in another phone, etc like I just started brand new service when buying the iPhone. How do I get across to them that the iPhone sim is fine, I have my account still that I dont want messed with, nor need another phone to replace the iPhone, and that I simply just need a refund on the iPhone and be on my way without clueing them in that the iPhone was hacked to get working with my normal sim and getting run around for that?

just tell them you bought it as a gift for someone, opened it up to put some music on it for them, then found out they didn't want it or had already purchased one themselves...

but how are you gunna do that if the phone has to be activated before doing ANYTHING. I thought about that one.

But actually, since you brought up the putting music on it....that's an idea. The phone itself + cable and dock are the only things untaped. the headphones, adapter, etc are all still untouched. I could be like that's what I WAS gunna do before noticing it had to be activated first, then turned out the person already got one anyways, so here it is...opened but not yet activated or anything. hmmm.

If you bought it from AT&T I am not sure how that will go. If you got it from Apple it will be a breeze. Take it, ask for your money back and you will get it, minus the 10% of course> Although if you make a good enough case about the low volume and you do it quickly after you bought, they may even give you a full refund.

Deactivate it and use it as an IPOD,BROWSER and such. You basically will have an I-Touch. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Unless you invest some time in linux-hacking an iPod or finding 3rd party solutions like mediamonkey/foobar there's no drag drop music outside of iTunes even on a 1G iPod!

I am sorry to say it's not gonna be a whole lot easier for the iPhone
