not to sure about the e90, but comparing with the n95, the wi fi is very weak on the nokia, and to much hanging on S60 os.

You can edit excel.
No offense, but you need to stop spamming every thread with the same question because it's against the rules.

why did you get a branded 1010 version, you can get one from any chain store for the same price, like fortress, broadway, wilsons and citicall, you will also get many free bes, lucky unbranding is very easy, just go to the start menu/settings/systems/remove programs and it's completed.

I believe your asking about Excel 2007, which I don't believe is supported by WM6, yet. I read something on Engadget about an update being released soon for Office 2007 file support.

There appears to be mis-information floating around here about the Tilt/Kaiser/TyTn II being able to edit/open Office 2007 Files.

The answer is, yes it can. In fact it uses the latest Docx and XLSX formats.
So for many people the problem is that their PC is more out of date than the Tilt. If your PC is say Office 2003 then you cannot open the Tilts files as it uses the new "X" format.

BUT Microsoft has issued a free Converter plugin for PCs running earlier Word / Excel versions so you can work with your Tilts spanking new formats.
Since I'm feeling helpful today - for those of you with PCs using pre-2007 formats, here you can get the converter:

Hi

is it possible to show the clock on the home page as 12 hrs instead of the 24Hrs, the clock setting has settings for PM and Am, but does not allow you to do the 12/24hrs settings.

thanks

The battery that comes with it is fairly large as it is (1350mah), I doubt there will be an aftermarket larger one. Your best bet would be to buy a spare battery with desktop charger/cradle and you can swap batteries if you are a power user.

Sorry I don't know specifically how, but yes it is possible, the question has been asked and answered earlier in this thread.. I know it's a pain, but backtrack and read through for your answer on how.

I ordered a UK-bound TyTN II, and I am going to return it, but can't figure out which of the USB cables in the pile I have is the one that came with it. D'oh!

If anyone who got a UK TyTN II (or any other, I suppose, just not an AT&T model) could post a close-up of both ends of the cable they received with it, I would be very grateful. Thanks much!

as long as it fits and works with the phone, stuff it in the box... it's just a standard mini USB cable plug. same as the ones for the TOMTOM GPS's and various other USB devices I believe (unless for some reason the tomtom device has the same plug as the HTC, since I use the same cable for both devices...)??

in any case, I don't know of any store that is THAT anal about a cable...

BTW, I already read the post about installingthe HTC homescreen on the ATT tilt, and now I'm wondering, is there any other HTC native programs that were neutered int he Tilt? if so, where can I get the cab files without reflashing my phone with oem TyTN II roms?

I know there was a video phone app that utilized the second camera.. the one that AT&T removes on all of their phones, so that when they bring HSUPA online everyone will have to upgrade to new phones again to do true 2-way video calls.

They removed it from the 8525, the Blackjack, and now the 8925.. bah

I have the full user guide for the Kaiser off HTCs site.. and my Tilt is on truck for delivery right now ( ) so I'll be able to let you know what else is missing when it comes.

I know the push to talk button on the tilt was mapped to something else on the Kaiser, and people on xda-developers.com have found registry keys (also disabling a service) that allows you to re-map the key to voice command.

Wow, thanks for this information. I just ordered the Tilt, but have been using a WM6 TyTN. It acts just the opposite. The version of Mobile Office does not read or save X format docs. Since I don't use Office2007 am I going to have a difficult time opening & editing my Pre-2007 Word and Excel Docs on the Tilt? Seems there must be some sort of work around, since a majority of the world is still running Office 2003, aren't they?

It supports the microSD-HC spec, which allows up to 32Gb; however, the largest microSD-HC cards currently in existence are 6Gb. As larger cards become available, the Tilt will support them.

Where can these 8gb cards be ordered? I checked 2 days ago, everything was just saying "pre-order"

8GB micro sdhc cards are not available yet, most shops have them on pre-order to hold their customers, because the shops know they are willing to pay inflated prices for the early release of these cards.

I've seen $120USD as the going price for the 8gb card. I got my 2GB card back in May (for my blackjack) for $19.99, and now I see 6GB cards for around $80.

I think $120USD is a decent price --I know I'm willing to pay it :P

Posted by: kms-lai

my 6GB cost me USD81 including shipping to hong kong from UK, all the 8GB i've seen are pre-order, prices around USD 120-150.

the ringtone you have on the motorola, you can send it to the tilt with bluetooth, or copy over to the PC, from the removable memory card.

yes, it does. Only the AT&T Tilt/8925 doesn't.

unless of course one opted for the model that lacks the front camera (or the model with no cameras at all).

I just bought mine from buy.com .. $179.00 after the rebate. $99 if your new to at&t. I just won't see it until monday.

I received my Tilt yesterday. I charged it and powered it up. I currently use a Treo 755p with Sprint. The Tilt is a nice piece of equipment, but I already want to send it back to at&t. Windows Mobile 6 is very cumbersome to use and not user-friendly, in my opinion. I found the keyboard very awkward to use since I am so used to having the keyboard right there on my Treo. I do not like the scrolling button on the left side, since I am right-handed. I was sort of hoping this phone would lure me back to at&t, but I am not convinced that this will replace my Treo.

The scroll wheel on the left side is a VERY right-handed move.. because to use the touch screen as a right-handed person, you have to hold the phone in your left hand, and then the wheel is right at your thumb.

I'm left handed.. so I'd know if the phone had a left-handed setup.

But I feel your pain about going from the palm os to windows. I hate Windows as a desktop OS (and don't run it on ANY of my computers because of this), but well I can't just slap my favorite Linux distro on a phone, so windows mobile suffices. I love the Palm OS, but it isn't customizable enough at all. At least with Windows one can hack the phone enough to make it what they want. The Palm OS UI is was simpler than even the smartphone version of the windows mobile os (which is totally different than the pocketpc version). I wish palm would just make a phone with at least SOME of the capabilities of the Tilt and I'd be all over it --specifically if it could do multitasking

Bell is CDMA, right? The HTC Kaiser is GSM, so no dice. There's a similar workhorse of a phone offered by I think Sprint in the states --scratch that, it's the PPC6800 you speak of.

Posted by: cubb71

Thanx clauretano,

I just thought that maybe HTC would make a CDMA version too for Bell and other CDMA providers.

Perhaps, I will just go ahead and get the PPC6800. There doesn't seem to be too many significant differences. I don't even know if any of the GSM providers in Canada are going to offer the TyTn II either. Perhaps I could switch if they do.

I was hoping someone from Bell would have the inside scoop on the newest offerings that are coming down the pipe.

Thanx again!

My only Canadian experiences are with Rogers so I'm really not sure. Maybe there's some info in the Bell subforum about it? http://howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46

Bell currently has the HTC 6800 (aka TyTN) now--see http://www.bell.ca/shopping/en_CA_ON/65485.details;GEMSESSIONID=HH90Xy4vvT6qBhqxyFl1GfL qs7SQ4nkZZwJj2vsgNG9h6lPRRwJW!1636711878. There's no reason why they couldn't have the TyTN II when it becomes more widely available.

The 6800 is supposed to be the early equivalent. I wouldn't expect another version for a while on CDMA.

The at&T version doesn't use tomtom it uses telenav. basically you have to sign up for it from the carrier.. its $9.99 for unlimited routing. Also you don't need to d/l maps for it as the telenav autodisplays the maps for you as you either change your route or change the destination.

Thanks, but this was resolved for me about four weeks ago, when I bought TomTom 6 with the North American maps. It works extremely well. I live in Toronto, and we don't have AT&T here.

I still can go for about 2-3 days without chargeing even after surfing the net for about 2hr and day and having the phone on from 6am to 6pm. How is the battery life? I heard that the 8525 had a short battery life. Is WM6 pro better then WM5? I just found out about this phone and it seems great. I can upgrade in 2 months. Thanks for any info or links. Bryan

I don't see a way to do this without adding software. The KaiserTweak program here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333898 allows you to set the keyboard timeout time from 10 seconds to 10 minutes, though, which will probably be long enough for most needs.

Posted by: clauretano

It'll still only turn on if the light sensor thinks it is necessary though. To have it on whenever the keyboard is open would require more than just a registry tweak unless I missed something when I looked at that stuff.

Just wanted to let everyone know if it hasn't been mentioned already, the Brodit/ProClip holders for the Kaiser are out!

that's at full resolution. Scaled to 1024 they look pretty decent. It was really cloudy and overcast that day but outdoor photos overall are very decent. Indoor photos are just downright dismal, worse than any of the previous 4 phones I've owned.

This phone is going to last you less time, but if you make a few tweaks -- turning off display after X minutes of non-use, turning off Wi-Fi when not needed, etc. -- it should last you a day and a half with that usage. But I think iPod owners used to short battery lives will attest that it's worth the hassle of juicing up for a great device. And this is proving very useful. 3G is awesome, by the way.

Do u find the video shooting at night wired, like goes in slow motion
or is it a setting i can do to make it shoot like it does in the day
Thanks

If you're at all serious about photography, the TyTNII's camera is likely to disappoint. However, if you have no other camera around, and with quite a bit of post-processing (Photoshop or similar), the results in good light can be OK. (Poor light--forget it!) Oh, and you must change the default settings to maximum resolution and reduce exposure by at least one notch--the camera tends to overexpose.

But here's a posting I made in a camera forum, where I managed to fool at least some people that a photo taken with the TyTNII was taken with a "real" camera: http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/r...essage=25305396

there are two main software, ce star and monster chinese, what is the problem with ce star, I don't seem to have any problems with it.

for monster chinese, it seems to have conflict with some programs like nodata and htc home customizer will not work if install with mc.

I just tried to upload a Tilt picture it said the file was too large (1.67 Mb).

Here's what I found about this camera. You have to adjust the White Balance settings to match your location (i.e. indoors, outdoors, etc.). That makes a big difference. A review I saw on CNet complained about pix with an orange tint. Well if the white balance is adjusted then it doesn't do that!

Another thing is hold the shutter half-way down until the green "Autofocus" box lights up in the center of the screen. Then press the shutter the rest of the way and hold it. There is a bit of shutter lag before the picture is taken so hold still until you hear the "click".

And finally, wipe the fingerprints and pocket dust off the lens before every picture. I think it takes pretty good pictures for a phone.

Can someone please tell me what other good software does the HTC TyTn II have
& the At&t Tilt does not
I already got the Card reader which is awesome

Or of anyone knows some better & good softwares for teh wm6 Please do share

Is it possible for someone to show me how or where I can get the AT & T software onto my unbranded phone?

So I walk into the ATT store, just to fondle the Tilt for a bit before I buy it, as I had decided many months ago when pics started showing. Im playing with the keyboard, checking out the screen, etc.. when all of a sudden it begins to feel like something is missing! I look and look but Im beginning to fear that there is NO HEADPHONE JACK!?!?! wth is this? How can you release a phone w/o a headphone jack? Why would I want to go buy some crappy "bluetooth" headphones, when I have already spent hundreds of dollars on my sound isolating headphones ALREADY?!? And why am I now seriously contemplating the impossible task of trying to find a bluetooth receiver with an audio jack out?!
Shouldnt I be listening to my high end mp3 player then if Im sucha music snob, yu are asking? NO! Thats the whole point of buying a phone like this so I no longer have to carry around my gps receiver AND mp3 player AND the 200 business cards I have collected of the past few years!!!
Can somebody help me out and shed some light on this?

Get an adapter. You'll need to get one on most phones anyways unless you go for the N-series.

HTC phones use the USB slot for the headphones. Like JWY said, you can purchase an adapter like I have and the company I work for sell that will let you use any 3.5mm headphones.

Personally I use the HTC Touch's headphones on my S630 because I think they are the nicest that I have seen from an HTC phone.

I get to upgrade in january. I can't wait. I just hope the will have out the metal cases by then. I have one on my 8125 for the last almost 2yrs and it really protected the phone. Also by then you guys should have finished all of your tweaks.

doh! Well you did mention tytn II or Kaiser, not tilt.. but I just sold mine on ebay tonight. the auction only lasted 45 minutes before someone bought it at the buy it now price.

I bought mine from http://egadgetdepot.com/catalog/pro...4f2f8e4268eca4a Stan was really helpful.

I've had it a month and have used it on two trips to Europe as well as in my practice keeping appointments. I love it.

Those are interesting, but the 2 mount choices for my car are right over the stereo (can't possibly use the car radio that way) or way down on the center console (accident waiting to happen).

I wonder why the ones with the built in charger don't work with the ATT version?

Posted by: clauretano

I wonder as well.. I thought hardware wise, minus the camera, chrome buttons, and bright numpad everything was identical?

Posted by: Hockey37

I just want to say I just got my ProClip holder in and installed (received 3 days after order with regular shipping). I got the one with the swivel. I highly recommend them to anyone. Well worth the money. At first I was a bit worried about build quality. But this this is engineered very well. A very sturdy piece of equipment.

I went on the HTC web site and I realized among the countries listed for under "where to buy" the U.S. was not listed!!! Is this because of one one those things that the U.S. doesn't recognize Taiwan as independent country and so forth, or is there another reason?

I actually contacted them, they said in the U.S. HTC Kaiser (TyTN ll) is only sold through the carriers, and no HTC branded Kaiser will be sold.

Then, I replied and asked if one buys it from europe or Ebay is it covered by the manufacturer's warranty? The reply was you a hve to call ..... Which I will call tomorrow.

You have a point there, but then again why people buy a Rolex and a Cartier and so on where they can really buy a Casio watch with atomic clock accuracy? After all they just want to see what time it is!!!

It is all about being a gadget freak, you want the best of the best right then and there, and you already know as soon as you buy it a better model/brand is being shelved somewhere!!!

This is to all gadget freaks of all kind

Posted by: clauretano

That's not a good example at all, but if that's how you rationalize it go right ahead

really it's more like There's a Rolex and a Cartier, and you buy a Rolex but one model below their rarest, most expensive model. Oh and some other company put their logo somewhere on it.

Posted by: iLLestOne

If Casio was made by Rolex, and was made out of the EXACT same parts, but looked a little different and said Casio on it, I'd still buy it for 1/2 the price of the Rolex.

The Tilt is a smarter purchase then the Kaiser, but whatever

Posted by: lordvaderr

I AGREE
Tilt is a Great buy

Posted by: JwY

It's branded versus unbranded. I personally can't stand branded anymore.
In this case, the Tilt's colour scheme.

Is the Tilt made in Taiwan and product code KAIS300?

Posted by: panda222

Got mine, works like a champ, am using the GPS feature. It works very well, my Slingbox (all 5 locations) work great to. Am having issues getting my "GOOD" messaging to work, but I know it will get resolved quickly.

I really enjoy my tilt. I since receiving it, I have flashed out the ROM to one I obtained from another site, not sure if mentioning it is allowed here. Runs great and I really enjoy the GPS. Very accurate. so far only downside is the batter life I am experiencing. My advice, get the Tilt from AT&T and just flash the ROM to the HTC default. and if you really want to get particular with it, scratch off the ATT logo.

The Palm OS UI is was simpler than even the smartphone version of the windows mobile os (which is totally different than the pocketpc version). I am always amazed by people who "hate" an OS so much that they paint themselves into a corner. I use computers for the applications they run, not for the OS (although a good OS facilitates matters). The rest is theology.

Windows Mobile 6.0 is very usable and the previous user's dislike is based on the person's prior familiarization with another OS (Palm). When one learns a system very well, everything else, however well designed will always come with a learning curve. Windows Mobile is more complex than the Palm OS but then it is more capable and more customisable.

AT&T should provide the unlock code for free. If you get a rep that doesn't provide it, try another one.

Is it possible to use Skype with video on the HTC TyTN II for videoconferencing?

I know the AT&T version doesn't have a camera on the front of the unit, and I just want to know if anyone on this board has actually used Skype with video on the TyTN II? If it works, I'll go for the HTC version, if not I may just save a few bucks and go with the AT&T version without the front camera.

Thanks!

I got teh CODE from At&t
She game me 2 Diff Codes

Now how do we unlock the Phone
Does anyone Know ?

Posted by: exMot

You need a T-Mobile or other non-at&t SIM. Replace your att SIM with the non att SIM and power up the phone. Then it will ask for the unlock code.

If she gave you 2 codes...Make sure you are careful and enter the first code, if it doesn't work try the second code. You only get so many chances, I forget the number.

They gave me the code within a few minutes as well.

You can edit the registry directly on the device, which is how I always did it. Just install a registry editor on the device and you can make changes at will.

TomTom 6 comes with some of the TyTN IIs. You could also install it separately. So yes, it works fine.

That's exactly what the side button is for. How else would you turn it on? If you lock the keyboard (by I think holding the end key), pressing the power button still turns it on, but with the display very dim until you press the right key or tap the button on screen. It'll only stay on for I think 5 seconds though.

Is it possible to choose between GSM and UTMS (like on the N95-3)? This could conserve some battery life, if EDGE is all you require.

do you want to disable the 3G data connection or network connection.

if you want to disable the network connection you can do this on the settings and have the phone connect to gsm only in select band only.

if you want the data connection, you can search for the kaiser tweak, you can disable 3G, gprs and edge. along with other useful tweak.

have the kaiser connected to the PC with active sync, and have your contact edit through outlook 2007, all contact is then updated on the kaiser instantly.

if you sync with outlook, you can sync the details back to the wm phone if you lose your phone or if you decide to format as well.

well i got the tilt (at&t) for what suppose to be $149 after rebate but they charge tax on the full $500+ bring the price to around $200 still not bad.
I like the speed of opening programs much faster then the blackjack, but slower then the iphone, but thats ok cause of the 3g.
I am glad to see that tilts wm6 has (internet connection sharing) wizard
Next i am on a mission to get gps working without paying the $10 telenev service

However the currently the dealbreakers for me currently with the tilt and help would be appreciated , is
1.) the phone loses the 3g connection way to easy as oppsoed to the BJ in the same locations (been tethering with both) This may not be as big of a problem if 2 was fixed
2.)It wont automatically reconnect to the network, need to open a new page to get it to reconnect

I haven't experienced a drop of the 3G connection at all that I can think of. It's probably happened, but I don't remember it. I use the device primarily in Minneapolis, but have also used it for a solid week in Houston without issue. I do, however, use OTA Exchange Active Sync for push email and that maintains a constant connection. Perhaps that helps, but it sounds to me like you may have a bad phone. It might be worth exchanging it to see if you have the same issues with a different phone.

Put your thumb on the back GPS cover, then the other on the lower right corner on the back cover then push up. It should slide up about 4mm.

I think they need to address that on the Tilt 2!

By the way, can I lock the device without going to the Today page?

My wife got me my phone for my birthday on Sunday and it's great so far. I'm going to pick up a 4gb sd card. Only thing I don't like so far is the preloaded ring tones. Anyone know where I can get the "old phone" ring tone that was on my old 8125. So far I all ready bought the hard metal case to protect it. Also does anyone know if there is any new window updates? Everytime I try it just keeps searching. Thanks

I dont own this pda yet...but I am seriously thinking about it....is there a speed hack or over clocking for these device like the 8125? Is there any lagging or glitching when watching a movie on this pda? I use to have the 8125 and that use to be some of the problem that I have with that phone...I am just wondering if there is any improvement in these field since the 8125.

thanks
kevin

FRy's electronic got a deal for 199.99 with a two new yrs activation or renewal for the tilt or the v9..And if u are at good standing with att they also give u an additonal 50.00 off....I just don't know if Fry electronic will honor the additional 50.00 off that att would give me...I wonder if best buy would honor frys ads?

WOW the video playback on this thing is crap. I've tried every supported format and every bitrate I can think of.....it's so bad that I'll NEVER use this thing for video.....ever. Youtube vids are no better. Some guys at work are synching outlook with their iPhone quite easily so I'm thinking more and more about getting one of those and selling this thing. The GPS is now the only thing making me keep it....I use that a lot.

Yes the camera SUCKS lol

Take the auto brightness setting off
Maker Flicker Adjustment to 50Hz
see if that Helps

But on the Whole, HTC should get a Award
for WORST Camera on Cell lol

do u mean it keep glitching after a few second...I am really big into multimedia
I get the feeling this phone might not be much different then the 8125.I have the iphone...I stream youtube video alot

Hmm....I'm getting reasonably good video playback using core player and avi files converted using SUPER.

Regarding the camera, its not bad for a phone once you set exposure to -2. Its better than the Samsung U600 cam, and it suffers only when you take pics of trees etc. Thats due to the jpeg compression rather than the actual cam performance. The macros are far out and I use this for macros rather than my Canon EOS400D(I have'nt purchased a Macro lens).

I went and picked one of these up at my local AT&T store for $149 this past Saturday.
I called ahead and asked if they would match newegg.com's price. They did!
The sales rep tried to force me to buy the PDA data plan but I *****ed and said I would go with the 19.99 MediaMax bundle.

The nice thing about this is I won't have that huge fee hanging over my head if i'm late on a payment that wirefly amazon and newegg threaten

Yeah, video playback is just choppy and looks terrible. This is with videos I imported, not ones I took with the phone. On my buddy's iPhone the vids are flawless....like watching them on a mini-HD display or something......on my Tilt they are unwatchable.

I finally got my phone from fry for 224.99. I customize the home screen, add the scroll for contact like the iphone...for some odd reason my camera button on the right side dont work...I can hear the button clicking but it doesn't do anything other than lighting up the other button...also does anyone know the regedit for auto time update for this phone.

Tilt is the AT&T brand name for the Tytn II. It's the same hardware-wise except it doesn't have the VGA camera in the front (which is useless anyways because we don't have voice conferencing in the US yet). Basically AT&T buys it from HTC, puts a AT&T logo on it, and calls it the Tilt.

The Tilt is more popular because it costs a lot cheaper than it does to import the Tytn II. (One of these reasons probably is people usually buy it with 2-year agreements and then resell them.)
