is there really a difference between the HTC tytn II and the ATT tilt? or is it just software

I believe the Tilt has no front video call camera. Aside from that it's software - far too much bloatware on the tilt that causes it to be slower. There are things that can be done to remove the bloatware.

Yup, it's primarily camera and colour scheme of the casing.

ive been searching but theres just so much to search in...

But can someone tell me how to get the Contacts picture Full screen when i receive a call?

Posted by: cbreze

I believe I've waded thru every page of this long thread and have not found any mention of the speaker issue. On another forum from Sept thru December the posts indicated a loudspeaker issue with one side or the other not being able to hear the party talking very well. No one here has mentioned it, so I'm assuming it must be a non issue for all on hofo. I am torn between going for the tytn2 or waiting for the touch cruise.

Posted by: whydidnt

I've had the ATT Tilt since it was released and haven't encountered any speaker problems at all. It has been quite reliable in that regard.

Posted by: kato2110

same here...i have no issue with the speaker either...

Posted by: lordvaderr

no issue with the speaker
But Yes they could have been better

they a little blur & tear up if volume is high

Try these might help -

Thanks for the input regarding the speaker issue I was wondering about. Sounds like no one here is having a problem. Now my problem is to order and receive the tytn2 within days or wait for the touch cruise which has no def. release date for sure yet. I like the lighter weight of the cruise, but no physical keyboard could be frustrating at times. Also the tilt option of the tytn could be nice for table top surfing, emailing etc. hmmmmm....trying to decide. Big $$ no matter which. The tytn being out for awhile def. has a bit of a track record. thinking... ..thinking ..thinking. Man, I hate these high dollar decisions.

Please help, my Tilt phone is driving me crazy... I've tried looking online several hours a day for all my weird tilt problems without finding a solution, so please don't shoot me if this is redundant...

1. The ActiveSYNC with Outlook takes FOREVER (I use a new USB cable, haven't tried wireless, etc). The phone is pairig correctly and my laptop & phone will show the screen that shows the bar with what percent is done....but that bar never really progresses even after hours. The laptop and phone itself aren't frozen during that time, I mean I can browse and do other stuff on both machines if I try to. I had searched the internet extensively for a solution to this problem, thought i had fixed it by unchecking "Enable Advance Network Functionality" which seemed to bring down sync times to a few minutes...it only helped for a few days, but again now not syncing.

2. My "TOOLS" Icon is missing from my Tilt's Program menu. I just noticed this, not sure when it first became a problem (I know it was there when I first got the phone). The only thing "new" that recently happened to my phone was that I had accidentally clicked/ran the RemoveHiddenProxy file, and then when one of my old programs wasn't syncing right because of Proxy issue, I ran the RestoreHiddenProxy file.
It's weird because the Tools folder is missing so i can't directly link to the icons that are usually there. But when I use my SBP Pockets Plus today plug-in I can "find/see" that those programs are still physically installed on my phone.

FYI, I haven't done anything crazy with my phone like registry edits or taking it apart. I have just couple commercially available programs on it, would like to add more programs but haven't yet mostly because the ActiveSync and other quirky issues. The funny thing is my husband got the same phone at the same time, and he hasn't had to babysit like i've had to.

I'm thinking about getting the Tilt from at&t this coming week. I was wondering since it comes with GPS do I have to use TeleNav from at&t? I noticed people were talking about TomTom working on the Tilt but would I have to pay for TeleNav or would TomTom work just like its stand alone device without paying at&t monthly? Also is there any way to make the dialing pad bigger? Or is that something I would have to fool around with from other places and downloads? Just trying to get a bit inside info so I can be ahead and know what the heck is going on. Thanks.

You don't have to use Telnav. Tomtom and other similar GPS apps that store the maps on your SD card, work well and do not use data charges. However their is of course the initial fee for buying the Tomtom program with maps.

There are large key dialers around but you'll neeed to google around - possible on this site or XDA dev etc etc - unless someone is nice enough to come up with a handy link.

My husband doesn't have the exact same programs installed. But he's installed literally dozens of different programs to try them out and some to keep, and his phone still runs smoothly. I only have a couple of programs installed that are "must have" references for my work, but I haven't tried to install fun stuff yet cause the phone is so fickle.

You should charge it to 100%. Charge time will depend on how much juice the battery has at the beginning. Should not take more than 3 hours.

it has a lipo batt just charge it full
lipo batt. dont like it when u fully discharge them, u can charge the phone anytime

Ok, I am a couple of months away from switching to ATT from Verizon and have narrowed my search to the Tilt and iPhone. I am back and forth on this subject, but there is something I wanted to mention and see if anyone has tried it yet. It's a new beta internet browser called Skyfire. It supports Flash in screen and is compatible with Windows Mobile devices. I saw it on Engadget and wanted to know if anyone has tried it and if the YouTube video is an accurate claim. I love the features of this phone and finally got to play with one at my local store, but need to really get to the final conclusion as to if this is the way to go and maybe just get a iPod Touch later down the road. I use both Mac and PC although my Mac is what I travel with. I currently have a Treo 700p and absolutely hate it. I have had more problems with this thing then any other phone I have ever owned and cannot wait to get away from Verizon and this phone. I'm on my 4th phone and still not happy. Pleas help me decide and point out the good and bad things about this phone. I have read alot of plus and minuses of the the iPhone and am waiting to see what happens once the SDK's go out next month for the iPhone as to what really comes out. I look forward to your opinions.

I actually have both phone at the momment...both phones are pretty good in its own way...the iphone has alot of third party app (assumming u want the hack version ) that make like a pda. The only thing I really don't like about it..is the volume....not loud enough....

So my TyTN II was supposed to be delivered yesterday but I missed the attempt and the roads were awful so I will go pick it up today.
I've been reading through this page and a couple searches and I was wondering if anyone had any must-have accesories or programs.

Picked up my tilt and played with it for a fwe hours, hated it so badly and flashed it to the HTC TyTn II generic ROM, then everything runs perfectly.

FAster response time, more available storage space, and of course no speaker problem after that.

I personally think the AT&T Tilt Flash is loaded with toooooooo much trial version softwares and a bunch of useless APPS.

Now my phone works like a charm with a very cool TyTn II theme.

How do u Flashed it to the HTC TyTn II generic ROM

What benifts do we get ?
More space ?
faster ?
&?

Can u tell me how do i flash it ?

Posted by: sweetheart

Do you lose anything important flashing it back to the non-tilt rom?

Posted by: anthonyho67

You will lose a bunch of useless trial versions of garbage ofter you flash to HTC generisc ROM.

1. You get MOre storage space.
2. Faster system Responce.
3. a Very Cool HTC generic Theme w/ HTC HOME SCreen (Which allows you to have live weather (HSDPA/WiFi/GPRS update), 9 quick calls, and 9 favourite program shortcuts on your home screen.
4. Never actually tested the battery life on AT&T ROM, but so far i think its awesome, other peoples that has the HTC rom has experienced better battery life.
5. WiFi is more stable on the HTC Rom

The Problem:

If you dont know how to Flash the phone or you have never done it before, DON'T do it, it is a little harder with Kasier than previous versions. I almost turned my phone into a BRICK, and lucky i have an expert friend that got me out of it.

you will need a Keyboard Re-map, which can be done just by downloading a software.

I dont know if its allowed to talk about this on this forum
but anyway please visit www.xda-developers.com

there are all the information you will need.

You guys are more than welcome to post about flashing, at least in the HTC forum. Moderators of the other forums might have different thoughts on it so it's best to ask first. As for this one and the windows mobile forums, go right ahead. As well, I have no problem with you linking to cabs or other software as long as it is not an advertisement, and it is in the appropriate subforum.

Just to add to your post, I don't think people who have never flashed their phone before should be discouraged. Read the wiki for your device over at xda-developers.com and it should more than prepare you for the procedure. All it takes is some reading and following of instructions.

First off, read through the Kaiser Wiki

The file you are looking for is in the Kaiser upgrading etc. forum

First you have to CID unlock your device, you can do that here: HTC Kaiser Hard-SPL v1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device (4 free)

Here is a really stable nice cooked ROM: [UPDATED 1/27] Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31 ROMs [WWE/FRA]

Then there is always the stock HTC ship ROM found here: http://rapidshare.com/files/5781641...1_Ship.rar.html

You might also want to consider the many variants of cooked Windows Mobile 6.1 featured ROMs that are available over there.

Isnt it beeter now to get the 6.1 ?

Also now how do i save all the Contacts
when im trying to flash the phone
Cos when i do sprite back up
it saves the programs & evrything

I have my cont & there Info(add, etc)
on the Phone book
scared to loose it all

Posted by: Wrangler3383

Whether or not you go with 6.1 is a matter of preference. Look at what it offers and the difference between it and 6.0. Personally, I am waiting for a cooked version of 6.1 that I really like.

It isn't a good idea to restore via a backup utility after doing a flash. Instead, sync your phone with active sync and that will bring over all your contacts, calendar entries, etc. Then once you have flashed it, sync it with outlook to get all that data back on the device. As far as programs and tweaks go, I personally re-install all of them from scratch.

You can either sync your device with computer and all contacts will saved in Outlook address book (make sure your verified this after syncing), or you can do custom backup (for example, PIM backup with SPB Backup application). In this case you'll be able to restore only your address book and calendar information from backup.

I will post once I do. I like my cooked ROMs to be stable. For now, I would recommend using: [UPDATED 1/27] Schap's WM6 Pro 4.31 ROMs [WWE/FRA]

Posted by: anthonyho67

Go read the upgrade forum at XDA-Developers, there are many discussions about which cooked version of the 6.1 is better,

So far i found every 6.1 has their own Pros/Cons, i dont really see a perfect one yet (Just my Opinion), but hey there are tons of them out there, read through the forum and see which one you like.

Or even cook one according to your own preference.

Well I have yet to install it because it hasn't been released, but this thead: Dutty's WM6.1 Rom talks about the rom I will be installing. It should be released by Friday at the latest. Here is Dutty's website that the rom will be posted on: http://duttythroy.lives-in.eu/cms/ At present, the top download (Feb. 1st) is the older version of what will be released Friday. Keep an eye on the website for the latest release. I personally will be refreshing every 5 minutes until it arrives I will post again once I have installed it. I highly recommend that if you use it, you donate to Dutty for all of his hard work. Donations can be given via the button on his website, or by visiting this link: http://duttythroy.lives-in.eu/cms/m...?name=Donations

There's a thread on the Motorolas here:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1142855

As for the SE, if you prefer using your own headphones, you could look at the HBH-DS220.

Posted by: anthonyho67

so far for small ear buds, the Apple iPod In ears are the best ear buds i ever had, still using it up to today, can those Moto or D980 be compared to those?

anyone tried it and compared it before?

I will definitely take a look at that SE if i could plug in my own headphones!!

It seems smoother overall. I'm not sure if its because of how much faster and stable the rom is in general or what. Without an updated driver set from HTC I doubt we will have the boost in video performance that everyone is craving though. Until then (if ever), we really won't know what the true capabilities of this device are for video.

Posted by: anthonyho67

But did you see any improvements in the quality of the video? I have been using TCPMP for all my Windows Mobile, and yesterday when i decide to play the same movie on all my units. i've found that my Kasier has the WORST video Quality, i am not sure if its the compression of the video or is it the size of it.

Well...still looking through the internet and see if there are any updates on the driver....

Have you heard of any news or rumors??

Thanks

I find the latest version of Core Player works best, with it set to "Raw Frame Buffer" and with a buffer setting of "10,000". The combination of these two settings seems to have created a considerable improvement.

I assume you found it @ XDA-developers.com??? do you mind sending it to my e-mail?? PLEASE....please....

Posted by: muthaflaco

The new Core Player 1.2 uses QTV, which greatly enhances video performance. I've played a 700mb 608 x 3xx movie with alost no framedrop.
Videos at native resolution 320 x 240 play PERFECTLY. Definitely well worth the $25 asking price. Now, lets just hope the HTC update that has been touted all over the web gets here soon, AND WORKS.

Posted by: anthonyho67

I had just Flashed to DCSv1.7-WM6.1 it is a Video entertainment Rom, it comes with the new TCPMP player, video quality is awesome. it also has the S2u2 "slide to unlock" program cooked into the rom, PRetty cool rom since i can slide to unlock like iPhones too, i found this ROM extremely stable and Fast compared to Dutty's WM1.6. Factory Colors instead of the Red Buttons on Dutty's and NO GPS issue.

My battery life is Exactly 52Hrs, with moderate phone calls, heavy text messaging and e-mails and some internet surfing.

By Far the best ROM i flashed...

Current Settings:
Rom: DCSv1.7-WM6.1
Radio: 1.64.08.21

Posted by: muthaflaco

May have to give that one a try...I just hate setting everything back up again.

Connect you Card to your PC and see if you could pull all your data out, then format your Memory card and see what it does.

As per the requested of the DCSv1.7-WM6.1

Here is the link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=365066

If you don't have the 6.1 Radio, please flash the 6.1 ROM first, then flash to your desired Radio.

More detailed instructions available on that website.

i was curious about getting a tilt once i get my tax refund but is it true that it has a lot of problems still and that the battery doesnt last a whole day, is there a way to turn the 3G radio off like you can on a blackjack ? im either deciding towards a 8525 or the Tilt but since i still hear a lot of problems with the tilt still not sure if i should get it. and doesnt the tilt and 8525 have the same battery capacity why would one drain faster than other ?

Posted by: enin

Question for you all:

Do any of you know how to set up a distribution list for text messages, basically a way to set up a group of numbers so that you can quickly select that group to send a text message to.

Hey buddy...the Tilt is probably one of the most powerful unit you can find on the market & it TILTS... ...My battery last me more than two days with Moderate use of phone calls, GPS, Wi-FI, HSDPA, Phone calls and Text msgs...

Yes the 3G can be turned off.

Yes they are the same, battery life totally depends on the RADIO version you use, i tried the current radio with a different rom, my battery was over in a day. Then i flashed to the current rom that i am using now, my battery life and overall stability of the PHONE is wicked.

This Phone is CRAZY, lots of potentials to it too...

Umm... this probably isn't something anyone else who likes this phone cares about but me but, is there space on this phone to attach a strap? I know I could get a case and attach a strap to that but I prefer when it's right on the phone. I feel like, from photos I've seen, that it does have space for it? At the bottom? But I'd like someone to confirm it for me, if they could thanks!

Yes, there is spot for a lanyard strap on the bottom, next to the USB port - at least on the AT&T Tilt version, anyway.

There IS a Hole for strap right beside the USB plug.

Sooooo Where is the cheapest place to buy a tilt 8925 from?

Posted by: digitalshoujo

whydidnt & anthonyho67: thanks! I had a chance to check it out today and it'll definitely work out in that regard...

I have another question which I can't seem to find through searching because the forum doesn't like using "without" (and "no" would be too short of a string) - if an unlocked TyTN II (either Tilt or HTC unbranded version) doesn't have a sim in it, can you still use the PDA functions? or not? I know many phones if there's no sim, you can't do anything with it. I'd really be using the Tilt more for PDA-type functions (scheduling, wireless usage) than normal phone functions and I've got other phones I like to use for calling - it's sort of a pain to swap sims back and forth like that so I'm curious~

I'll keep browsing the forums to see if I find anything, but I don't remember this being answered yet, sorry if I somehow missed it! (^^;; )

It works fine without a SIM. It's like having just a PDA. BT and Wifi will still work, plus emergency calls.

I recently bought a Tilt from a local AT&T store for $100.

letstalk.com is offering the Tilt for $100 after new plan and $100 rebate. I printed out the information from letstalk.com, asked the salesman if they could match it, and they did!

I'd give that a try.

Normally pedometers have a weight inside that moves and counts the steps, unless I'm being an idiot. If I'm correct though, the PPC does not have a moving part that would count the steps unless you pressed a button for every step??

Unless you are thinking more of something that measures distance travelled with the GPS and then divides the distance by your step length? Or even something like this:

I don't know of one in a simple can form. There are two (that you know about I think? ) but they require the addotion of two things either .netframework or mortscript:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=370527

The above requires .netframework 3.5 to be installed - from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...&displaylang=en

OR

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=327081

The above requires mortscript to be installed - available here:
http://pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=1448

But, I would be a little cautious. The problem is that PPC phones already take a little longer to start ringing than simple phones. If you then run a program like those above the PPC then has an even longer delay before it starts rining, as it has to run the additional program first before ringing. There is a danger you could miss calls. You could experiment with this if you have not already tried.

Just in case anyone is looking, these are the steps I used to get T-Mobile Data and MMS working on my TyTN II. I found the settings around the forums:

Data Settings
Go to Start > Settings
Click on the Connections tab
Click on the Connections icon
Under My ISP click on Add a new modem connection

Windows will ask you to Enter a name for the connection: (I named mine T-Mobile Data)
Pick Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) in the Select a modem: box
Click Next

Access point name: should be wap.voicestream.com
Click Next

User name:, Password:, and Domain: should be left blank
Click Finish

When back at the main Connections screen you can click on Manage existing connections
Click on the General tab (if it's not already on that screen)
Where it asks you to Enter a name for these settings: I entered T-Mobile
Click ok in the upper right corner

MMS Settings
Press the envelope button, or go to Start > Programs > Messaging
Click Menu
Click MMS Options...
Click the Servers tab
Click New
Fill out the following:

Server Name: T-Mobile MMS
Gateway: 216.155.165.50
Port Number: 8080
Server Address: http://216.155.174.84/servlets/mms
Connect via: T-Mobile
Send limit: 300K
WAP Version: 2.0

Then click Done
That will take you back to the settings screen. Click on the T-Mobile MMS profile
Click Set as default
Click ok in the upper right hand corner

That's it! I powered down, then powered back up my TyTN and fired off a couple of picture messages, and had my girlfriend send some to me to test. Everything worked like a charm!

I use Orb to watch TV on my Tilt. It takes advantage of using my TV tuner card on my computer and lets me watch any of the channels I have set up with my provider. If you have the same set up I highly reccommend it. I know there is also a site to use with Sirius that uses your Sirius user and pass to get a mobile version.

check www.xda-developers.com kaiser forum plenty of people upgraded using cooked 6.1 one roms.

I have one of Dutty's cooked 6.1 roms and it works great with no problems.

Is the profile set to automatic?

Posted by: ricoks

automatic doesn't seem to work as well on the tilt. i was using PI2007 and it would switch profiles on all day events, even when the status was set to free.
For example, when a birthday was in the calendar, it would switch off normal. That's not right?!!!?
any ideas?

I'd check the card. I've been using a 6 GB SDHC card in mine since last September without issue. Can you see the card using a card reader on your PC? If so, try reformatting it to see if that resolves the issue. If not, you know the card is bad.

Posted by: gazenhokenz

can mp3s be used as a ringtone on the tilt?

Posted by: soccernamlak

Yes. Get HTC Audio Manager. You can take mp3s and make it into a ringtone on your phone. Then, you can set the song as your ringtone

can the tilt roam in japan and south korea

Posted by: Darteres

I have a few questions about the Tilt. I just picked one up yesterday and am interested in changing a few things. Do I need to unlock my phone before flashing? Can I use the KaiserTweak without unlocking? What are the benefits to flashing to the HTC ROM or another cooked ROM vs just using the KaiserTweak? What is a Radio? I haven't found anything about that. Is it something I need to worry about if I plan on staying with AT&T service?

On a side note, if anyone is familiar with Operamini, does it use airtime minutes? Or does my data plan cover it? It mentions airtime charges when I connect?

More false promises or has all the bad press finally hit HTC where it hurts - the bottom line?

It's getting comfortable to be skeptical about this update, but I'm going to keep hoping...

EDITED for bad link. Oops.

if the tytn ii gets wm6.1 then that is a ++
but i know i am getting a diamond when it comes out

Posted by: ricoks

the tytn II CAN have 6.1. just go get a cooked rom that has it. I tested a tytn and flashed a 6.1 rom to it. it was nice. threaded sms was kinda cool, unless you only get like 1-2 texts a day.
threaded is only good if you use txt for a conversation, not just quick info

Posted by: Chilkoot

The DCS v1.7 ROM includes WM 6.1 and is quick/stable. I use radio version 1.64.08.21 and it's been very solid (on Rogers in Canada at least). Not sure if it's been linked in this thread, but you can pick it up here.

Hmm... it looks like our ship may have finally come in. The (currently Dutch only) release of the latest ROM from HTC has at least BitBlt hardware acceleration enabled (link), and it looks like the ahi2dati and d3dm_ati should be able to be ripped/ported from the new KS20 drivers (link).

Yes, this means we may well see full 2d and 3d hardware acceleration available in a cooked 6.1 ROM for the Kaiser within a few weeks! I for one am not giving up hope

I got the battery on friday and let it charge overnight for about 14hours on saturday. Had it on for about 6 hours made a few calls and went on the internet. Just turned it off that night did not charge. Used it all day on Monday maybe about 2hr talking and about 3-4 on the net. Then turned it off at night without charging. Used it not much today about 1 hr talkd and 2 hr net and now I'm at 12%. The stock battery would be at about 30% after one day of use. Like it says in the package it takes about 4-5 charges to get to full strength. So I'm happy so far.

Hi all, new here. I have been looking around trying to find the TyTN II want. I want the one with front/back camera and unlocked. I am on Unicel, and Unicel's "Top Phones" consist of the (discontinued?) Nokia E62 (which I currently have, and wont even open texts or email in mail-for-Exchange anymore it's so messed up).

Anyway, I found this link:
http://bargainoffers.com/catalog/ht...one-p-1278.html
On here, and I was wondering if that was the phone for me. I know there are a few different models, No camera, rear camera, two cameras, etc. Call me a giddy 6 year old but I want the fully bedecked out one (and unlocked!). I also like to mod things, and I have been looking on ebay at the flashed phones with better firmware. Is the firmware hyper-sensitive which TyTN II model it is on? I tried searching, and couldn't find the specific answers (I also hate it when people post the same question over and over again)... Thanks all!

I'm using 3G. I have'nt modded the phone so it's stock. I uses 3G as much as I can. I when 2 days on the second charge. And that includes testing playing dvd movies on my phone. I was down to 30% last night before I started wathing "Crank" on my phone. It runs great. I had the volume at full using the external speaker and I watch it for about a 30min of the movie and the battery went down to 24%. I got an adapter from the same site so I can use regular headphone with my phone, it sounds great, and the adapter has a mic built in so I can answer phone calls. I'm going to Puerto Rico on Friday so I want to load movies to watch. I have a 8GB SHD micro sd card and "Crank" only took up 177mb. I can load over 35 movies on on my phone. This is the greatest phone I have every had. It does everything so well. The only down side was battery life. But now that's solved. Today I will test some more. I will watch the rest of the movie on the train and see how long the battery will last and report back today.

Bryan,

I have been using 6.1 for about a month, is it better? Well, a little (that I can see). For instance the sms (texting) is threaded now which is much better, other than that they say the battery life is a bit better, beside these I really can't see any other changes.

Go here:
http://www.htc.com/us/
and click on HTC e-Club register and download the latest 6.1 for yout HTC TyTN ll. The 6.1 ROM for the tilt is not yet available from at&t, but it will be soon.

Good luck.

how do you get rid of duplicate calls or phone numbers in the call history list???

Posted by: bclaydon

Ok, I'm new here and I did some searches but I apologize if I missed some info.

I ordered an HTC TyTn II on Thursday. Today I received it, except it's model P4551. Yeah, I can't find any information about it either. Basically the numpad on the keyboard is silver like the AT&T and there's no front-facing camera, but it is an HTC and it is unlocked.

What the... ?! I ordered the unlocked HTC model over the AT&T Tilt for the extra camera and couple other features, and now I get some weird variant from HTC. I searched HTC's site and found nothing. I called the store I ordered it from and they had heard the same concern yesterday and are currently trying to get hold of the manufacturer and will get back to me (to their credit they apologized and offered an RMA but said they couldn't guarantee the warehouse would ship me a dual-camera version until sorting-out with the manufacturer).

Anyway, anyone know what the heck model I got and what the actual differences are? Google has virtually no details about a "4551" version.

Thanks guys!

Sorry I don't think so, as far as I know you have to use PC to load it.

Go here:
http://www.htc.com/us/
and click on HTC e-Club register and download the latest 6.1 for yout HTC TyTN ll. The 6.1 ROM for the tilt is not yet available from at&t, but it will be soon.

Good luck.

Hi, Ardy
Can you tell me where did you get it? I login to eclub, i do not see it at HTC site.

Well guys, after planning and thought, I've decided to skip waiting for the Bold, not getting the iPhone, and getting the Kaiser.

I've gone from phone to phone in the last 2 years, and it all started with my Htc Touch, which I think really left an imprint in me based on WM devices....

I decided to sell my touch and get the n95, and after 3 months of the n95, I decided to sell it as well because a lack of keyboard and an OS that is different.

Now I get best of both worlds, touch screen and keyboard

You guys think this is a good choice?

Posted by: JwY

It really varies depending on how much you like WM. I went from a N95 to a Kaiser sometime last year. They both have very different uses though. The N95's media is much better, but as a tool, the Kaiser can do more for me right now.

For the people in GTA/Sauga/Hamilton, or in Ontario....

if you're using a flashed ROM, which radio are you running?

I'm not sure how to tell whether which radio is better than the other.

(I'm running ROMeO's btw)

Thanks

I am not sure what to buy. Is the 4550 a 3g phone? And can you do all of the chip upgrades that you can on the 8925? I tried to call a tech at htc, and she said the 8925 is the upgrade, and has better software, than the 4550. Does it do anything less, that cant be changed with a rom upgrade?

im ready to giveup my iphone and move on to this amazing art piece of the htc tytn2 p4550, first of all, id just like to know how good the reception is considering the iphone reception was fairly good but could never get a good signal in the basement, and i already have tomtom nagivator 6 so i should be able to just slip that on, also, would you please give me a review on how heavy it is because ive used the nokia n95 (piece of crap) and it was about the same size as the tytn2 which is good, but the nokia is very light because... well... its plastic, and also, can windows messenger run on the background cuz this is probably the most important app that i need considering iphone never had it which was frustrating.

What is the cause and or solution to a corrupt mem card?

My card will still allow me to open DCIM, games, music, and windows but all other folders are symbols and boxes. Tried soft reset, removing card ect.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Posted by: andrewcjduong

my friend bought the htc tytn2 a few days back ago, again... i tried it out. very good, i wouldnt say its the quickest phone out there, but it is a quick windows mobile phone, went on msn, surfed the internet. seemed very quick, his first phone broke cuz he dropped it in the toilet while trying to text and pee at the same time, i guess i know its not waterproof. either way, next week il pick one up by a local phone dealer.

Posted by: orflin

How does Canada have "crazy data plan prices"? I pay $30 for unlimited web access except for tethering and streaming. When I switch to my Touch Diamond (this week?), it will be $15 for the same plan.

Rogers has a $30/6GB plan... Seems pretty reasonable to me as well.

Yup, it's a lot more reasonable for the time being.

And yes you can disable data on the device by removing the internet settings.

Last night I saw the AT&T Tilt for $99 with 2yr contract at Fry's.

Posted by: andrewcjduong

i still think its pretty expensive, when your talking about a windows mobile phone, they use data like crazy, its on 24/7 so you'll zoom by 6gb pretty quick. i had it for about two months for my motorola q9, first month was well over $800, and second month was around $550 because i canceled it near the middle of the month. and the $99 with 2yr contract is the tilt, which is a bit different from the tytn2, and they dont have it here in canada.

Hah, i never had my TyTN II use data like crazy. The only time i ever use data is when i use GPS, check emails and go to the internet a few times to find something. The only time it will be using data 24/7 per se, is if you have your email sync every 5 mins or so. Even then, your batteries will be dead before happy hour starts.

6GB is plenty enough for the regular joes. Unless your tethering and slingboxing of course.

And he's talking about Telus/Bell. They have a cheaper data rate compared to Robbers/Fido.

Yes its called the Diamond Pro.

Posted by: y2whisper

I think its called the touch pro.

And yeah 6GB is a ton to use i used to have a plan i just used data for email (exchange server on 24/7) and the occasional surf to find out basketball scores, the highest i got was 20mb now that i have the 6gb plan and i surf more frequently, use msn google maps etc, my first 3 weeks was at 70MB now im going to see how it is after this month with occasional slingbox usage.

Posted by: JwY

I still have yet to see someone exceed 6GB on Rogers/Fido without tethering.

ASAIK the HTC Raphael/Touch Pro is the replacement for the TyTN III. Or whatever you want to call it.

The TyTN II is known as the T-Mobile MDA Vario III.

While the HTC Raphael is now known as the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV.

So its safe to say... the HTC Raphael or Touch Pro is the new TyTN III. Unless you have proof to say otherwise, feel free to correct me.

They have it until the end of the month. You'll need to call in.

Settings -> Connections -> Manage existing connections

Delete anything that has Rogers, or remove/change anything that says internet.com when you edit it. If there's nothing there, then it's not setup and you'll be fine.

if i remember, i think its usb 1.1, not exactly sure. your best way to get wired headset is buy a usb-3.5mm jack and get your regular earphones/headset,

I have a few questions. I have been following this phone for a while, since about its release last year. I recently obtained enough money to order one and I just got it in the mail yesterday. I did not order it through AT&T, I ordered the HTC TyTn II model off of newegg.com, and I received the p4551 model. I was wondering, is this model more identical to the p4550 that has a front facing camera and includes tomtom, or is this model more closely related to the AT&T tilt. I am living in the United States if that has any relevance.

The reason I ask is because i know the further along that models of phones go, the more they butcher the hardware and even the software, which is why I usually strive to purchase models of any
