Turn OFF 3G?

Ever since my wife got her Samsung Sync phone the dropped calls have been terrible. The CS rep at ATT told us that the 3g coverage in our area (Natrona PA - 15065) is practically non-existant, but she loves the phone. Is there a way to turn off the 3g and make the phone use GSM? We really had no problems before this and were wondering if this might be a solution.

Thanks

If there is no 3G signal, the phone will not use 3G. There must be some other cause for your dropped calls. The nearest 3G area is in Harrisburg, PA.

Wow! That's quite a ways away. Hopefully if we do get coverage here eventually things will improve. It's incredibly frustrating for her, she loves the phone, but drops calls an average of once per call, and I know when I call her from work, I have to call her back 3-4 times during a 15-20 min call.

Thanks for the info!

If I was you I would call up and do an warranty XBM (exchange by mail). It sounds like a device problem to me.

SkyRocker> Is the phone AT&T branded or Cingular branded?

I have heard nothing but bad things with the AT&T branded Syncs. I don't know what they did to them, but they drop calls, miss calls, miss text messages, while the Cingular branded Syncs are operationally excellent.

I've never come across a way to turn off 3G on the Sync, but as someone stated, if your phone can't find a 3G signal, it just won't use it. I would like to turn it off on my phone because I get a much better signal on EDGE, and the phone constantly trying to find a 3G signal is killing the battery.

It's just something about Samsungs in general that make them garbage anymore.

Atleast the ones that AT&T sells. Poor reception, low volume.
