anyone have any idea? Referring to the Amarillo / Lubbock area.

probably late spring 08 is the word from the amarillo office.

That would shock me if they stick to that date, at least in Amarillo.

Besides the fact that would be one of the smallest 3G areas in the country (unless they get Alltel to offer additional coverage, I doubt that heavily), I haven't seen a time since they were called SBC Wireless that they've been on target for updates or repairs...

My family's been SBC Wireless/Cingular/AT&T customers for years, and even we've had several days that we didn't have coverage (at I-40 & Bell, come on...).

That may be true. My info comes from the Amarillo District Manager who is a personal friend. I know he doesn't control or decide what AT$T does, but I'm sure he's got a fairly good idea. At least it's nice to hope.

Amarillo does have Interstate 40 going for it. My guess is that would be a reason to get 3G going.

I had 3G reception driving through Fort Smith, Arkansas of all places. But I was on I-40.

Weird, never had that on my Blackjack during a trip through AR back in February...
I really wish they would do 3G on highways soon... but even with the Dobson merger there are many areas in the panhandle and western Oklahoma that GSM is completely useless on any phone I've come across that they need to fix up first by setting up more towers or getting the local operators (like Alltel) to.
Go figure.

I'm afraid AT&T is looking at a 1824 map of Texas and 3G is lit up and going now. Nothing datawise is worth a hill of beans west of i-35. EDGE works a little bit, and some far west texas spots are GPRS if anything.
I'm able to make some calls but like Haas said its basically useless in some areas up in the panhandle where I was a while back on a trip.

So that would be any day now, right?

Any word from the Amarillo office lately?

I would like to know when Abilene will get 3g. I am sure it will be awhile because we are so backwards here. It took us forever to get digital coverage here. Tyler is about as big as us and just about as far away from DFW as us and they have 3g.

Hondo, TX has full 3G, Abiline TX doesn't? I don't know if Lubbock has it yet either or not, but HONDO???? Only reason I know that was because the Blackjack I was carrying showed it. This is just amazing. Austin doesn't have decent coverage but Po Dunk Hondo does.

According to this thread, Lubbock apparently has a sliver of coverage on the north side of the loop, near Texas Tech Univ., and near the airport.
