Does anybody know when a possible rollout for Shreveport, Louisiana, Shreveport is a top 100 market I would think that it would be on the list to get 3G relatively soon. Any help would be greatfull

Posted by: Alex318

I'm on the same area waiting for 3G

Posted by: formercanuck

Not sure if this helps

So I am a geek...and had some free time. Here are the approximate locations of the planned new towers in LA

http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...097168&z=7&om=1

I put NEW for the ones that filled in "Moderate" (read, no coverage) and no coverage/roaming coverage zones. I put ENHANCED where the coverage viewer indicated "Good" or "Best" coverage.

Looks like a lot of rural areas are getting cell sites.

Posted by: formercanuck

Cool... you may be able to add (if not already) ones directly from AT&T at http://www.cingularsites.com

Also in Shreveport, patiently waiting. Please hurry.

Not even close to being a Top 100 market . They don't even have the top 50 markets covered so you will be waiting along time

I was in Shreveport Wednesday. Not a hint of 3G yet.

Someone (i.e. Shreveport or AT&T) needs to get on the ball here :P We have an ice hockey team in this hot freakin city, but no 3G? My blackjack is in envy of Baton Rouge and New Orleans :P

Now only if you had running water j/k

I found this in a recent press release about Texas:
http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?p...articleid=24484
Quote:
Later this year, 3G service will be expanded to include Brenham, Bryan-College Station, Fort Hood, Longview, Marshall, Tyler and Victoria.

From this it looks like they will be moving eastward toward Shreveport with 3G deployment down I-20.

Isn't it amazing they spent $3 billion dollars in Texas and a measly $34 million in Louisiana in 2007?

Ya, I noticed that in the press release. I bet they will light up Shreveport with 3G as soon as analog and TDMA are taken down in early 2008.

I hope they put more than $34 million in the budget for 08 or we might not see 3G then.

I'm sure you recall that we were among the last, if not the last to be integrated in north LA. I wouldn't doubt if we're on the back burner for 3G also. AT&T is more than welcome to surprise me though.

That's called demand.

I need 3G in Longview, TX in a bad way- that's on the way to Shreveport. Both cities the company I work and oversee telecom for has big ops in.

Ya, I actually was living in New Orleans when they integrated up here (finally!!). I also remember we were one of the last if not the last to get GSM.

Posted by: Technosaint

So is 3G ever coming to North LA? If small cities close to Tyler etc have it, why can't we?? :P

Posted by: CaptShadow

I was in Shreveport today, still no sign of 3G. I feel sure they will be the first to get it in north LA given the size of the Shreveport / Bossier area. As for when, your guess is as good as mine.

I'm being told that Shreveport should go 3G in June. The rest of north LA is pushed back and will launch about the same time as the first manned mission to Mars.

Posted by: GBULM1234

When I worked for cingular in the market in Network Ops we were told integration would be within six months, then it got pushed to a year, then another 6 months. don't believe anything you hear from At&t, from personally experience its not believeable. Now I good be wrong, and from what I am told June sounds about right , but don't hold your breath, you might choke to death.

Hehe well that's good news (crossing fingers, toes, and other crossable appendages). If Monroe gets it before S'port, I'm gonna be severely annoyed :P

We should have a La / N. La HoFo meetup sometime soon... anyone interested?

Posted by: GBULM1234

that wouldn't be a bad idea for a meetup

Posted by: CaptShadow

We could do a meet in Shreveport. It might draw some people from nearby cities like Dallas or Texarkana.
If you guys think Shreveport is a good spot let's start a thread here and see who is interested:

The only thing I could find said that Shreveport, Lafayette & Lake Charles would have 3G by the end of 2008.

http://www.att.com/gen/press-room?p...articleid=25252

Posted by: StattlichPassat

I popped back in at the right time- great to see some more news here. In regional news though, 3G is live and well in Longview and Tyler just to the west! Shreveport will be a welcome addition. Lafayette too- we have an office there as well.

Posted by: Technosaint

Cool Stattlich, what is it that you do in the area?

Posted by: Technosaint

Just a reminder for anyone in the Ark-La-Tex to join us for a HoFo meetup in Shreveport. Details here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1357954

Posted by: GBULM1234

From the information I have on hand June is suppossed to the be month of 3g in this market. I know techs are working on the towers as we speak in the area. should just cover the metro area nothing more, no sattelitte communities. ie like stonewall , benton, or minden. however the benton one remains to be seen. we have seen the build out plan though, them metro area is covered , as for what the completion date in june I don't have a clue, just sometime is June. I am surprised Tyler and Longview are live now I have not heard anything as to them being live yet.

Posted by: Technosaint

Heh great, maybe we can do a double celebration HoFo meeting, just hang out and celebrate the 3G rollout :P (and if not, who needs a reason to get together anyway?)

Posted by: Bandit390

3g is active in Marshall, now. Heading towards Waskon, you lose 3g.

Only a little further down I-20......

where do you go to find what markets are ranked where???? thanks

I heard 3G was being turned on in Shreveport. Anyone seeing it yet?

Posted by: Technosaint

I've been having some major issues with the network switching between Edge and G. Was in Best Buy and could barely make a call. I actually thought this may be the reason, switching over of network to 3G, hoping it wasnt wishful thinking :P. Let's see what the next few days have in store for us.

I have been having the same problem in Texarkana for the last few days in areas that normal have a really solid Edge signal.

Posted by: cmatthews

Something else I have seen several times, and just witnessed again is my Q9 constantly showing a 'G' for GPRS, but faster than EDGE speeds. Just happened again a little while ago, ran a speed test and got 763.30Kbps. This only happens late at night, I usually catch it when working graveyard, and it doesn't seem to last very long.

Posted by: Technosaint

I JUST HIT 3G!!! At 15:26 hrs I checked my phone (Blackjack 1) and it had a big 3G on it. If you don't see it yet, try restarting your phones.

Posted by: Technosaint

Ok I am back at 'Edge'. I guess they may have been testing it :P but the good news is that it IS close, and almost here.

Posted by: marshal

It was turned on earlier this afternoon. Yea!!

There were some issues getting it cut on. Not sure what was going on but network operations sent out an email stating they cut this afternoon!!

Now it needs to come on down i-20 to Ruston :P

Posted by: Technosaint

Ok it's 9:55 pm and it just went back to 3G. Hopefully it will stay this time :P

Posted by: Carl91

Now we need 3G in Opelousas/Lafayette!
>=]
Come on, AT&T!

Posted by: Alex318

3G is finally on full swing I've been having the 3G icon on my phone for a few days, now I need to get internet service on my phone. .

Here's the 3G coverage map for the Shreveport area:

I saw about 676 kbps on my q9 using the opera browser on the phone and driving 70 mph down I-20. The phone is capable of 3.6 HSDPA so the next time I am in town I will have to tether and see what I get on my mac

Posted by: GBULM1234

Capt Shadow , how did you get a hold of that map? I am curious, becasue I have seen some grids for 3g in the city , but I had not seen the full map.

Posted by: Technosaint

I am loving the 3G, except for its effect on my battery life :P. May have to step down to Edge until i have the need for 3G.

Posted by: lil318playboi

good now sport has 3g!!!!!!!!! i needs to head east to Monroe up to Bastrop lol!!!

There is a link below the map in the coverage viewer that takes you to the list of cities with 3G. Apparently this list gets updated before the main coverage map does.

Here's the link for the list, scroll down to Louisiana:

Great! Now we just need it in Texarkana.

Hey does any of you guys know if 3g in shreveport is on 850 or is it running on 1900? trying to figure out if I buy a 3g phone that has 850 will it work, otherwise I will be looking at a more expensive 3g phone with 850 and 1900. I have found some nokia's that run 850/2100 those are cheaper and just as nice as the nokia's running 850/1900 3g.

I was told that it was running on 850.

EDIT: ooops, just saw your other thread...

Posted by: Technosaint

When we got 3G here in Shreveport, I noticed my battery life decreased massively. So if I knew I wasn't going to be able to get to a charger for a while, I switch to Edge. I do this using the 'Bandsel.exe' file.
(Connect your phone to your pc, browse via Activesync to my device/windows and create a shortcut to Bandsel.exe. Cut/paste the shortcut to my device/windows/start menu and name the shortcut whatever you wish).
This file has four options: Auto, GSM850, GSM1900 and WCDMA. If i switch to Auto, it goes automatically to 3G (default). If I switch to GSM850, it goes to Edge. If I switch to 1900 it goes to 'G' and if I switch to WCDMA, it goes to 3G.
Hope that helps!

Posted by: GBULM1234

As far as I know I shouldn't have to go thru all the trouble, since I will be using an unlocked phone that allows me to switch frequency manual from wcdma to gsm, I really just wanted to know if the wcdma band in use was 850 because my unlocked nokia runs on 850 and 2100 and obviously I can't run the 2100 and if the area had 1900 it was not going to be any good to me
Now that I know 850 is the band that Wcdma is running on , I now I can use the phone as needed. and get HSDPA speeds from it. That was my reasoning, I just wanted to make sure I could use the unlocked phone and not have to purchase a new unlocked 3g handset, as most of the new unlocked 3g handsets are expensive.

Posted by: CaptShadow

What kind of download speeds are you guys getting in Shreveport?

Posted by: cmatthews

I passed through Shreveport a few days ago and ran some speed tests with my Q9. I consistly got about 750Kbps download, that was early on Saturday morning.
