Gmail copies me on all sent mail! (turn off recent doesnt work)

Ok, I have done a search and found that to disable Gmail from sending all your sent mail back into your Gmail inbox on the iPhone, you need to go to Settings>Mail>gmail>advanced> turn off recent mode. Done it. It, however also stops me from getting any new mail at all (on the iPhone)?? Anyone know the correct way to get this set up? I thought this Gmail implementation was supposed to be seamless, it's actually quite annoying!!!

To reiterate, when i respond or send an email from the Gmail app on iPhone, whatever I send gets copied to my sent folder AND back to my inbox. I have POP forwarding turned on in mail.google.com, and have tried it set up to archive mail once it was read by a POP program, and also told it to keep the mail in the inbox on gmail, neither worked.

I have also tried setting up a filter with "my e-mail address" + "sent from my iPhone" to auto-archive these, but it still gets sent to my inbox on the iPhone. Turning off recent mode prevents ALL mail from arriving in my iPhone gmail inbox.

Anyone else have this happening/find a solution to it?

I was having a similar issue. I didn't muss around with any Gmail (on the web) settings, but I did set up my gmail account via the automatic method on the iphone. Everytime i sent an email from my iphone, it showed up in my inbox as well. Very annoying especially since i had "automatically cc me on every email" turned off on the iphone.

What I did was I deleted my gmail account outright from the iphone and then set it up using the manual method (using the "other" option when adding an account instead of clicking on gmail). you can find the gmail pop and smtp servers under settings in gmail. i filled out the entire process and in gmail itself, i turned off forwarding and set it to only send mail starting from that point on.

it worked!

now items that i sent in iphone are reflected in real gmail (i.e something i sent shows up online under sent, but they dont come back into my inbox again).

Not sure what you mean by recent mode and i cant even FIND that under my gmail settings. But give this a try and maybe it might work.

Wow, I never even thought of doing it that way haha, it makes sense since Thunderbird does not get everything copied back to its inbox, and it is just another POP email program... I'll try this when I get home! Thanks!

And in the menu, it is under Settings>Mail>Gmail>Advanced>Use Recent Mode (it is the last option at the bottom)

Actually, on your BB you can log into the BB site or your BES and set up a "filter" that does not forward any mail that originates from your email address.

I have tried what you suggested but when I send an email from my gmail account on my pc I get that same sent email in my inbox on my iphone. Any way to avoid that? Does "recent mode" being "on" have anything to do with this?

Exactly what I did when I used my Blackberry and it worked perfectly....I just wish I could set up that same filter for the iPhone.
