ideal picture size for caller id photos??

is there an ideal set of dimensions for photos which are used for caller id? to my understanding, the iphone shrinks photos that are too big for the caller id picture dimensions. does the shrinkage distort the caller id photo? or is there any benefit to using shrinking down the picture beforehand?

i ask this cuz on every sony ericsson phone, the shrunken photos used for caller id are noticeably distorted, which is remedied by using already-shrunken photos.

confusing enough?

(i haven't received my iphone yet, but i'm preparing for it's arrival)

I've found that bigger pictures actually look better on the screen for some odd reason.

The best way to do this is to add full size photos to your outlook or windows contact list or similar if you have a MAC, then go into your phonebook on the phone and edit the contact and rezize it the way you want, now you have high-res pics that come up when they call and are not distorted. (if you don't edit them on the iPhone they will be distorted)

Oh yea, steve jobs did that in the keynote where he zoomed in on the kids face and then saved it as a background.
