WAP Site isn't showing the Beta for download. Other than that, the program looks good so far. It finally does provide sound/vibrate notification when a conversation is open and you're not in the program actively.

Thanks a lot for your comments!
Maybe, old page is downloaded from cache?
Please try to clean cache in your mobile browser and open WAP-site once more.

Ok, everything is fine now. I keep getting the registration message every time I start the program - any way to get rid of that for the Beta test?

Pritesh

Posted by: jhruth

I used a previous version and this one seems a lot quicker and more stable.

Just one suggestion or question - I would love a visual notification that I have a message not just a sound ! If I don't have IM+ running in the foreground and I miss the sound then I have no idea I've received an IM ! Am I missing a setting somewhere for a pop up notification somewhere?

Otherwise it looks great and loads really fast even though I have about 200 buddies !

Thanks

Is chatting with multiple people improved?

It was always a pain in the older versions.

Posted by: doalittledanse

it says i need to register to use the beta

Posted by: jhruth

Does it have visual alerts? If I have IM+ in the background and I get an IM I want a visual as well as audible alert...

Any ideas?

I just downloaded the program a few minutes ago from the wap site. I can't seem to use it without registering; yes, I chose Trial when it asked. Still won't let me use. I'm using it on an HTC s710 Vox running WM 6 Standard.

Posted by: doalittledanse

if youve used im+ before without paying you will probably get the registration problem. to get around it, just use a registry editor to remove the HKLM\IMPlus entry and then install the beta. this worked for me

Posted by: Pinnacle

I hadn't used IM+ on this device before, but I was able to use it OK after reseting my phone.

Great app so far.

Posted by: RCcola159

Has anyone else noticed that it takes longer to connect in this release than previous ones? Haven't actually timed it or anything, but it seems way longer.

Is this just a side-effect of being a beta? Or is it just me?

Posted by: Pinnacle

It's been taking a very long time for AOL to connect for me, but the other services have been fairly fast overall in the past 24 hours. The Check For Updates hasn't worked for me, but this may be a beta issue.

I figured that there were no updates yet. When I say the update check wasn't working, I mean it isn't connecting to your server; I'm essentially getting an error message.

Will there be support for sending files in a conversation?

I continue to have problems connecting to my AIM account. I connected the first time after the installation of the app, but not after that. I don't see an option to connect to simultaneous AIM locations.

Yeah, takes a good 2 minutes to connect to AIM for me.

Yes, Yahoo, MSN, and Gtalk all connect faster.

AIM seems to connect faster on EDGE than 3g for me.

Is the release version available, cause when I try to use the version I have now (Beta), it's expired, and I have to download the new one from the website. Even with that I'm in trial mode for 7 days. Is the one on the site the real release or the beta?

IM+ for WM Smartphones can work via Internet/Web GPRS, 3G, CDMA, UMTS or WiFi connection.
It cannot work via WAP, SMS, MMS or HTTP proxy connection.
We recommend you to contact your wireless carrier and make sure that
you have full internet TCP/IP-based access enabled and allowed to use 3rd party internet applications.

I've been using this beta on and off, and I can't get on at all at the moment (however the weather is really bad). I seem to recall manually switching from 3G to EDGE, and being told that the network protocol is not supported.

*** edit. I am able to connect on EDGE now, so disregard the the previous. It seems like when the app can't get in touch with the registration server, it just hangs there and won't connect to any of the IM services in the mean time.

Given that it takes a decent amount of time to connect (especially with AIM), some sort of progress bar or connection log would be helpful, versus a flashing icon that doesn't really tell me much.

Thanks!

-Paul

P.S. I TOTALLY second the motion that there needs to be a homescreen alert. I'm totally baffled as to why every single IM app doesn't have this feature. If I miss a message, I would like to know about it the next time I happen to check my phone. A sound or a vibration isn't adequate.

I posted this before in another forum, but when using the official version of Mobile AIM, there is a mobile icon indicator next to our screename, so that others can see that we are using AIM via our cellphones or portable devices. I think this is highly important to have, as it lets people know that you are using AIM on the go and are not just ignoring them. Putting on an away message just prevents people from IMing you, most of the time. The mobile icon lets them know that you are accessible. There is an AIM add-on called Middle_Man for the PC version of AIM, that can display the mobile icon next to your screename, even if you arent using mobile AIM. So the mobile icon indication can be replicated and is not just something reserved for an official version of Mobile AIM. No other smartphone AIM/IM app has this feature, so you can be the first one to have this.

It's just a command the app sends to the server once you are connected. I spent some time a while back messing around writing an IM client for the PC. A lot of the "ease" of integration as well as the features available, have to do with whether or not the application is sanctioned and supported by the company running the network (for example AOL). AOL specifically has two separate protocols, one private (and full of features like file transfer), the other public, which is basically a really crappy way of saying "sure we support 3rd party developers, but we handicap them immensly so our 1st party software works better (then we steal 3rd party ideas like away messages)."

Anyway I digress. IM+ is a great looking app that most importantly runs smoothly and quickly. All these issues we're bringing up here I believe are important (especially given the $30 price tag when others are free) and I think if they can knock off a few of these features I'd be inclined to say it's worth the money.

Hi Victoria,

I'm currently using the 2.11 build from Sept. 21. I am unable to connect to AIM at all. The icon doesn't even blink (which is the only indication anything is happening).

As I described in previous posts, it's really tough to troubleshoot because there is no way to view a console or anything like that (which incidentally would probably help you guys troubleshoot quite a bit).

Furthermore all I get are error messages from the registration server. I'm not sure if you require the registration server to respond before I can connect to any of the networks; but if this is the case then I'd have to make a serious objection to this practice. I realize you guys have a right to protect your software and so forth, but if it is automatically crippled just because your registration server is down, I'd have to say that's unacceptable.

I look forward to your thoughts.

-Paul

Posted by: Sirielia

One thing I do like are the tabs, however, one thing that deterred me before is that I had to go to Menu and then Contact List to access my contact list. I think a really good idea would be to have the Contact List be in a tab as well. So it would be like this:

------------ ------- -------
|contact list||buddy||buddy|

That way it would be easier to navigate between the contact list and the conversation tabs.

Posted by: sybers

Yeah I believe Agile does the contact list as a tab. Ideally having an option to do it as it is now, or as a tab would be the way to go.

not really too important, but i'm having trouble using custom sounds for IM+. i was able to get one sound file to work, but can't seem to get any others to work, even saved as the same type of file with the same attributes. any ideas? im using a palm treo700wx with wm5.

Treo 700WX is a WM Pocket PC, not Smartphone, so you would need to use IM+ for WM Pocket PC.
